it could be something as simple as the exhaust pipe touching the car body . while the car is off take hold of the exhaust pipe and shake it quite hard and listen for any thumping or banging or ticking as you describe

Kelly is right , those rears are crap and it might be starting to to make some noise . they usually whine when the backlash gets out of whack

clean and check the cables at both ends look for loose or corroded connections. This should get you going . if not then get another starter solenoid and replace the original,that is on the outside of the starter. be careful not to over tighten the wires on the new solenoid while replacing it

is your system full of coolant . are the belts tight on the water pump ?

just don't run it as hard as it will go, all the time. When you take off and it reaches top speed just back off a little so the engine is not screaming and you should be ok

check around the mounting s look for vacuum leaks, check the compression to see if each cylinder are about equal

if it has been running recently then it could the control module on the inner fender it is a square looking box with about 8 plus or minus wires pluged into it
