Find the ground wire and where it connects. You have a bad connection at the ground from rust or corrosion- remove the bolt etc, sand it down and replce. Should fix the peoblem. Also check the dimmer switch that all wires are plugged into switch well. Just in case.

Sounds like the chain is loose and it starts to jump off the gear but jumps back on, making that clunking noise. TonytheTiger
