Orion Shorty Plus Barlow lens worth the money?

Yes, the Shorty Plus is one of the best Barlows on the market and will not degrade your eyepieces.

What is a good planetary EP for an Orion XT8 telescope?

I'd recommend a 5mm Orion Edge-On Planetary eyepiece. I've tested this eyepiece personally and found it excellent. It will give you 240x which is a perfect magnification with an 8-inch aperture.

Thirteen year old interested in astronomy?

The best book for anyone any age to learn about astronomy is NightWatch byTerence Dickinson (Firefly). It is beautifully written and illustrated so that anybody can learn a lot about astronomy from it. I'd also recommend the educational versions of Starry Night software, which come with...

stores around Toronto that sell Orion star blast telescope?

Efston Science on Dufferin south of 401 sells some Orion products, but they don't seem to list this one: http://www.escience.ca/ Joe O'Neil in London sells Orion products, but he faces the same import costs you would, so his price is not much different from what you'd pay ordering direct from...

Astronomy question: Is it worth buying a telescope if you live in a city (Chicago)?

If you're interested, it's worth buying a telescope no matter where you live. I carried out an active and varied observing program for many years while living in downtown Toronto. However, don't expect to buy a decent telescope for $100 to $150: you'll need to spend at least twice that to get...

I really need some good advice! I got my Orion SkyQuest XT10 yesterday. Why didnt

There are several reasons why Jupiter may not show much detail. First of all, your telescope may need collimation: adjustment of the alignment of its mirrors. Secondly, Jupiter is still quite far from the Earth, and its detail may be hard to see for that reason; it's also low in the sky so its...

The Orion SkyQuest Xt10... Is that a good scope?? ?

I have owned 25 telescopes over the past 51 years, and have tested an awful lot more than that. Distilling all of my experience, I recommend a 10-inch Newtonian on a Dobsonian mount as the absolute best buy for a serious beginner in astronomy. For details, see this article of mine...

I have a Orion SpaceProbe 130... I want the Orion SkyQuest XT8in Classic....

My first scope was a 4.25" reflector. After two years I upgraded to an 8" reflector, and it was like having a whole new sky! The difference was unbelievable. You'll find a similar difference going from the 130mm to the 8", but the 10" will be even better. I personally find a 10" f/5 Newtonian...

    Orion Skyquest Telescope?

There are hundreds of objects you can see through your scope. Most of the planets are in the morning sky right now. Get up early, and you can see Mercury, Venus, Mars, and Saturn. There are hundreds of double stars, and hundreds of deep sky objects: star clusters, nebulae, and galaxies, but you...
