Have you ever covered a hardcover book with opaque tape to hide what you're reading?

If I wanted to hide what I was reading and it was a hardcover book, I'd just take the dustjacket off and swap it with a different one.

Is it possible to write a detective investigation fiction novel which

Of course it is. It's been done, too. Loads of times. Even more if you go forward a few hundred years to ancient Rome. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Margaret_Doody#The_Aristotle_series

Deathly Hallows hardcover worth the price?

That sounds astonishingly expensive to me. I paid less than that for it new on the release day, no coupons involved. If you want to own it in hardcover, buy it. If you want to read it, buy a cheaper version. If you want to make an investment, I recommend a first edition of something _other_...

Am I old fashioned or just sensible when it comes to kids shoes?

Oh look, it's the pointsgamer again. One best answer coming up for Xiomara... I expect it will be a valuable result.

B&A Readers: Past or present tense (plus BQ's)?

Much prefer past tense, though I have read some good present tense first person. I can't _stand_ present tense third person. BQ1: Probably either Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings. BQ2: Barbara Hambly's Dark Tower series. BQ3: Not sure what you mean by "interesting". I've been given lots of...

How much a writer can earn from a bestseller?

The top bestseller writers earn millions. Everyone else? Probably not enough to live on.

The minefield that is pre-school / nursery?

What primary school nursery has an admissions policy which means you have to register kids at a few weeks old? I'm sorry, that's appalling. I think you should speak to the head of the primary school. I'm reasonably sure the nursery's policy is illegal, if they're the only attached...

I'm currently in the process of getting my self-published book registered with the

Yes, you would. Not entirely sure why you'd bother. If it's out there published, it's pretty darn obvious that it exists already, and the date of publication will tell everyone when.

As aspiring YA authors, how can we help kids kick the supernatural romance habit?

By writing something else. Harry Potter isn't about supernatural romance. Nor is Uglies. They seem to sell OK.

What is the best way to go about becoming a published author?

Read lots and write lots. You don't need an agent, an editor or a publisher until you have a finished, polished manuscript ready to sell. (Well, you can pay for an editor before then if you really want to. Most people do their own editing.)

Could a fantasy book by a black author with black characters be huge like...

I presume you don't really mean "like Harry Potter" because there _is_ no other fandom that big. Twilight's a tenth the size. And, while it's not a book, Naruto is bigger than Twilight (by fanfics posted on fanfiction.net) and is a fantasy series by a Japanese author with Japanese characters. I...

How can you tell the religion of an author?

You can't, not unless they choose to tell you or to use their writing as a platform for their religious views.

Which author do you think is better, and why?

Not much interested in teen chick-lit authors, I'm afraid. Bit like asking which is the best quality discount store.

should i turn this into a book when i do some more on it.... i am 14 and did

Well, (short) books start at 60,000 words. You've written about 300. Do you actually have 60,000 words worth of plot in mind?
