Battle of Algiers is my favourite, made in 1965 about the French-Algerian conflict, but very appropriate in many ways to some situations around the world today.

Completely different, but I'm surprised no-one's mentioned 'My LIfe as a dog' (Swedish film from the 80's) yet.

Love that movie..have it on DVD and have seen it about ten times. And you are right..however much you see it, you still enjoy it, even if you do know the twist. :)

Delicatessen was a surreal classic.And anything by Eric Rohmer,my favourite being Four Adventures of Reinette and Mirabelle.F***ing Amal (aka Show Me Love) was an excellent film as well.
 
Its international title is Brotherhood of war. And I must agree this film is brilliant, JSA is also about the affect of the Korean War.

I Think they should have shown Brotherhood or JSA than Saving Private Ryan to night.
 
Absolutely LOVED "Nikita" (or known also as La Femme Nikita). I 've loved it since it first came out in the early 90's or so? Such a sleek, stylish, hot movie with lots of action and a good storyline that keeps your interest and feel for the characters. Just my opinion.

I also love "Ma Vie en Rose". Such a sweet and heartbreaking movie.
