Your fave FOREIGN LANGUAGE movie??

i saw the nasty girl at the glasgow film theatre..
i have to check the date when it first came out, several
great films were released around the same time as this one
i didn't rate it at all, maybe i had other things on my mind..
i've seen it a few times since, and though i've poor recall
i agree it is thoroughly fascinating and great film

Love foreign movies, favorites include:

House of Flying Daggers
Raise the Red Lantern
The Road Home
Hero
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
Battle Royale
Three Colors: Red
La Haine
Chungking Express
In the Mood for Love
2046
Happy Together
Kung Fu Hustle
Shaolin Soccer
Ong Bak
Enter the Dragon
Drunken Master II
Oldboy
Lady Vengeance
Spirited Away
Ringu
Audition
A Tale of Two Sisters
Seven Samurai

All of them are fantastic!

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned La vie est belle. I love that film, it's really heartwarming. I'd also pick Battle Royale, Ring, City of God and at the mmoent I'm watching the subtitled Japanese version of Final Fantasy: Advent children a lot (I know, g33k boy!)

Not only is it my all-time favourite foreign language film but it's in my all-time top five as well.

My foreign language list:
[1] Un Coeur en Hiver
[2] Three Colours: Red
[3] The Umbrellas of Cherbourg
[4] Three Colours: Blue
[5] L'Accompagnatrice

Actually, I'm a bit surprised by this list. Why is it all French?!? I guess that there's just something about French films...

As a big fan of Japanese pop-culture (anime, manga, music and even crappy j-doramas) and yet I can't think of a single Japanese film that would make top-ten foreign language list.

Maybe The Seven Samurai or Sprited Away or Grave of the Fireflies might make it into the tail-end of my top ten. But, err, maybe not.

you're welcome. it is fitting that ennio morricone received a lifetime achievement oscar at the weekend, as this memorable theme is one of his greatest achievements.

Oldboy.

Pan's Labyrinth.

Run Lola Run.

Versus.

Irreversible.

And so many others! I'm a real film-snob when it comes to World Cinema. Could go on for another 50+ of my Favourite Foreign Titles effortlessly. ^_^
