A top kill is DANGEROUS.

The BOP wasn't designed to have a sustained flow like this in it, and there is A LOT of sand in what is flowing out. This erodes it. It could have suffered massive damage during the original accident. A top kill is going to put a lot of strain on the BOP.

It isn't something that you do lightly. It isn't something you do without a lot of planning. If it doesn't work, at best, you've still got shit flowing out at a high rate. At worst, the BOP goes, and 100,000 barrels a day becomes a relatively tiny amount.
 
No it would just seep into the ground and contaminate the water tables.

Off-shore drilling can be safe if proper precautions are followed, they weren't and we're seeing what happens as a result of it.
 
Last time I checked, Obama was the one who was "anti-oil" and "anti-drilling" and IN OFFICE FOR 16 months now.

Sorry, if any President should be blamed for not having a law, it should be Obama, who has the Democratic Congress and Senate.
 
Being in a the engineering field for nearly 13 years, I'm SHOCKED BP didn't have an emergency shut off system at the very base of that pipeline. It's basic shit and they didn't have it. Now that's embarrassing!

I work at a natural gas plant and we have nearly 200 different emergency shut off valves including the fact that our tanks self destruct(tank collapse on itself) before exploding. This is all common fucking sense!
 
it's not all that bad really considering that oil rises to the surface. not like the whole fucking ocean is now oil or something.

I think you're confused.

Being pro alternative sources of energy doesn't mean you're anti-oil. You can be fine with drilling and shit and still support other types of energy for future use as they become more practical.
