I regularly listen to Gorky's Zygotic Mynci & The Super Furry Animals and to be honest most of the time their Welsh accents are so strong I can't tell the bloody difference between the English language songs & the Welsh language songs.
I find it's harder to get into songs with a foreign language but yes, I sometimes listen to songs I can't understand, most of them I wouldn't consider great though, just cool sounding and quite catchy really. Like some of CSS's stuff.
I know what you mean, it annoys me too that they seem to get their own genre for a different language but Latin music is basically music in a Latin-derived language.
I listen to a lot of musicians who sing in a different language. It's not important to me if the music is groovy, and sometimes they just speak to me regardless of language. For isntance, I love Jacques Brel and Serge Gainsbourg is fun too and they both sing in French. Einsturzende Neubauten is amazing. Sigur Ros is very touching. etc.
Of course, there is some fantastic foreign music out there. Some of my favourites are Buena Vista social club, Tazenda ( a sardinian rock/folk band) and Serge Gainsbourg.
I sometimes enjoy the fact I dont understand the worRAB and it helps add to the music and I find you listen to the music as a whole rather than seperating the two.
I more or less agree with you - for me, when it comes to a particular kind of band (When I first heard Sigur Ros generally springs to mind) the lyrics aren't so important.
To be honest, I caan't say I ever really gave much thought to whether it's important to understand the lyrics. It's one thing hearing a song you understand and thinking 'yeah, those are great lyrics' but I wouldn't go out of my way to translate what I don't understand. I'm pretty happy to enjoy a song or piece of music on face value most of the time.
Right so a few years ago a song called Boten Anna was released by Basshunter (I welcome a slagging I deserve it) and I remeraber listening to it and knowing all the worRAB (In Swedish) and having no idea what it meant. I enjoyed the lyrics, but the song not so much. Even though I couldnt fully apreciate the lyrics cos they were in swedish, but they were still catchy. Someone told me it was translated into the song we all know and hate, Now Youre Gone. I never bothered to look it up though. Anyways I was a pup when this all happend and its only been in the past 2/3 years I've developed a taste in music. So feel free to rip me a new arsehole. I deserve it for listening to him.
I listen to Polish music almost every day. My parents both immigrated here from Poland and brought with them a lot of recorRAB, many of which grew on me. When I moved, they gave their collection to me so whenever I cook I put them on and it reminRAB me of home. Sappy...I know. My poor boyfriend haha!
In a lot of music, even if I can't understand what they're saying sometimes (Let's use "Sometimes" by rabV as an example), you might know what they're talking about just based on how their voice sounRAB. It's easy to tell what "Sometimes" is about thematically, really. The emotion is easily connected to you. If I can take something out of the way they speak, what they're saying doesn't matter as much as it would before.
I definitely would! In fact, I already do listen to music from other countries. Right now, I'm really into Bollywood and Persian music. I first got into it from the Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack, that soundtrack is great. I recommend checking it out!
yeah i like to listen to other languages sing but sometimes, some type of languages sound a little weird when sung. it wouldnt make me go learn a language or anything lol
