I don't think Titanic is necessarily the "worst film ever." I think it's the most overrated film ever (no way did it deserve the gargantuan critical and commercial praise and Oscars thrown at it when it was released).
At the end of the day it's a soppy love story/disaster flick. Which had some clever moments and some cringeworthy ones. It went on too long (indeed, I feel Titanic has in part contributed to the current trend of directors and producers releasing films that are unnecessarily long by around 30mins-1 hr) and it IS bad in parts, but I think the overall product comes across as a decidedly average film. The reason it is hated so is because it is, quite simply, overrated. It's not as good as people made out, but it's not the worst movie ever made, in my opinion.
That would probably have to go to Batman and Robin. What. Were. They. Thinking?
