Wii going great at the moment breaking sales records but will it last

let me ask you this question has the ds with its innovative gameplay done well in the long run....the easy answer yes...I think gameplay wins out and the low price will mean more casual gamers will buy it over the other two highly priced ones

Well, here's the rub: It seems like SONY banked on Blu-ray being their saving grace, so they installed it in every console as standard without offering a choice to the consumer. I don't see Blu-ray as a problem as far as a gaming medium (read: storage), but whether it's going to be around for HD movies is another story. One of the biggest reasons I keep hearing regarding why some SONY fans are reluctant to buy a PS3 is that they don't really want to be forced to pay the high price simply because of the BR player. Conversely, I've seen some people line-up to buy an PS3 because it's a ridiculously cheap BR disc player, they don't care about the gaming aspect. It is what it is. Will it be a failure, too soon to tell. But I still don't think it was a smart move on SONY's part making the BR player standard--but hey, It's SONY, makers of the Elcaset, betamax, minidisc, UMD, memory stick, etc...so it's more of the same.

developers can control the physics. half life 2's physics system was leaps and bounds better than what consoles are doing and for considerably less. holy crap, i just put the pc before consoles. dont think ive ever done that before

Ye for me its 50/50 between the xbox/ps3 i'll wait a year or more and see what games interest me, but in the end the PS3/360 will beat the Wii easily

Haha. I worked with the guy that came up with that slogan.

yup. This system had great games too but priced way too high. It targeted a different market and if we were to adjust for inflation it would cost much more than ps3 is now compared to the comp.

I may have under 1000 posts...but I know games and gamers

What does sony offer that the 360 doesnt? The machine is slightly better as far as power goes (and even thats debated)..sony has blu-ray....360 gives you the choice for HD-DVD...(and with umd's making headlines for lack of sales) why would anyone decide to buy into another sony media format? Choice and price counts for something

Now as far as games go...The PS3 isnt killing the 360 graphically...(yeah I know its launch blah blah bla, but the OG xbox looked better outta the gate) Most of what I have read online is that it will be mostly first party games that will be exclusive and thats it...if MGS and GTA are available on both, which one you gonna buy? espcially with a rumored 360 price drop...

Nintendo was dying in the console market....the will be contenders this time around...and its not just cause its the cheapest

The DS is selling so much because its cheap not because of the gameplay. The touch screen is for some games but them games are so childish its not even funny, playing Mario 64, goldeneye, starfox on the DS sucks big time

I don't hear too much word of mouth about the PS3, and if there was it's usually about the price being too high. Compared to my friends who don't really play video games, they're quite interested in picking up a Wii before the years end. As with the DS launch the technology was still taking baby steps so I'm expecting much better stuff from the developers in 2007.

PS3: Bigger, better, tech way ahead of its time, smashes competitors on the technical side, but mega expensive, costing the same as its competitors combined. .

Reminds me of something else. Lets hope PS3 doesn't go the same route as the 3DO.

It seems that people in here are comparing future success to the way games look.

If the Wii carries on producing quality games with good use of the controller, its gonna be no contest. Everyone is going to have one.

The real battle is between the 360 and the PS3, depends what the PS3 will bring to the table in terms of exclusive titles.

No one is rooting for Nintendo?

All you fucks just bought the Wii! C'mon, Nintendo has been the longest-standing leader, and now you are going to tell me they didn't work hard enough to hop back up on their throne? I think Nintendo is gonna win this round. Between MS and SCEA though, that's where it's all just a wild guess. I would say Sony might slip down to third; a lot of people aren't diggin' on PS3's offerin', just yet. And I think most gamers don't even really have HDTVs yet (Let alone ones that offer 1080p).
