Why is Sasuke the perfect rival?

I tried and triiied to ignore this topic, but I couldn't. So, clearly you aren't a Naruto fan in terms of the character, and you'd probably rather the manga be called Sasuke, since he's the "true" ninja and all. Yep. Should clearly be called Sasuke. He's the only ninja in the "Naruto" world. We all totally agree with you.

Wait. No. We don't. You are spouting the typical garbage that hardcore Sasuke fans do. Let me disect each and every point you've attempted to make in your giant flame to Naruto.

First up, Sasuke is an established foil in YOUR EYES. Last I checked, besides a passing that they had earlier in chapters, Sasuke and Naruto haven't even sat down to a conversation or had a fight in ages. Rivalry, this does not make. Most ninja-acting character? So I suppose characters like Shino, with his quiet and sneaky character.. and Kakashi, with his Katana/face hiding action, stuff like that. I guess none of that is "ninja-y" enough for you. No. We should have ninjas walk around with a white coat and a big red logo on their back. That's clearly the "Ninja Way."

Hm... broken power-ups. Now where have I heard that before. So Naruto gets Sage Mode, has the ability to finally control the Rasengan after years, and it's a broken power-up. What the hell is the Mangekyou Sharingan then? I guess that's not broken enough. Having the ability to basically make it feel like time has STOPPED completely... that's nothing compared to Sage mode, right? Not to mention how it's a long-ranged ability. Nope. Mangekyou is garbage. Naruto is too uber! All I see here is "Wah. Wah. Naruto is strong now." Hello?! He hasn't had a "power-up" in ages! He's had to rely on different forms of the Rasengan, clones, and the occassional pop-up occurences of the Kyuubi. Sasuke's already gotten a crap ton of power-ups. Get over it!

Also, sure the Mangekyou has the weakness of possibly making you go blind, but not before you can do a hell of a lot of damage to someone. I say it's about time the HERO of the story finally got something that puts him on the level of the other character that got a lot of attention already.

Yeah. Obviously you can't stand Naruto if you can't wait to see him get "Nerfed" and have the snot kicked out of him. You know, because Naruto hasn't gotten beaten up before. Of course. Sasuke, in your world, would be able to take Pain on and defeat him with both hanRAB behind his back, I'm sure.

This power-up hasn't thrown the whole universe out of wack. Pain is a REALLY STRONG ENEMY. You need a good ability to survive stuff from him. The village was almost destroyed. He barely got there in time. At least he still cares about his freakin' village, and fellow villagers, even though they have all hated him for almost his entire life.

Yeah. If Naruto fights again, and Naruto uses his Sage Mode, I'm sure no one will be smart enough to just avoid him until his chakra supply runs low... like it has now. Oh... wait. ._. Give me a break. Cry harder, fanboy.

Yeah! Sasuke's Cursed Seal 1/2 was totally like a true Shinobi. Show me some pictures where Shinobi grew freaking demon wings, and controlled lightning with their hand/sword. Show me a Ninja that used his eyes to mindrape people and convince them that they've been trapped in a world full of torture for hundreRAB of years over a second. Guess what? Naruto isn't based on REAL NINJA. Oh my god, I'm sick of people who use this freaking excuse.

And a personality? So crying, whining, and complaining about his family being killed, him wanting vengeance, and how no one understanRAB him is a personality. Oh. Okay. I totally forgot. Calm and cool? No. Again, he has flipped out and bawwwwww'd his eyes out more times than I can count. Sasuke isn't mature and well rounded character BECAUSE revenge is his first priority. You can't just omit that part of his character. You can't.

Basically, what I'm saying here is this. Holy. Freaking. Crap. Sound the Fanboy alarm. Should I get you a bib for the amount of slurpage of Sasuke that's going on right now? Seriously dude. Wow.
 
The substance of arguments aside, let's be sure to keep disagreement respectful. Just a preemptive in-thread poke to make sure that things stay on track in the long run. Naruto is often a divisive subject among fans, but ultimately we argue because we care.

Apologies if that last line is a bit preachy, but it's true.

I'll repeat my personal opinion about it: the Naruto manga makes the point that truly great ninjas sacrifice for the greater good and care about the people around them. These are traits that such legenRAB as the Third Hokage, the Fourth Hokage, Jiraiya, and Tsunade all have in common.

Even Itachi, it turns out, had many good motivations driving him.

Sasuke's circumstances aside, he's become a person that has rejected such things. Someone did reach out to Sasuke once. It was Naruto, who outright told him he was like a brother to him. Didn't make a difference. Then even after his revenge, he chose to take yet more revenge contrary to the wishes of the one that loved him. I think the best that can be said about Sasuke is that he's a loose cannon badly in need of redemption, and I hope that Naruto will eventually accomplish this.
 
Sasuke is known as a mysterious and secret character. Who's to say he's serious about destroying the leaf, I'm a hardcore Itachi fanboy, but Sasuke is where the most of Itachi's character effects the plot. If Sasuke made some sort of ephinany about team 7 in the Killer Bee fight, then who's to say what Sasuke will do?

Look I know Kishimoto made Sasuke a bad seed, but I think he can easily put Sasuke out of this area as long as Sasuke doesn't do anything to steep his character into more of the evil side. This writing though is getting frustrating because Sasuke isn't a very straight and linear character now, he's getting out of situations that would put blood on his hanRAB like failing to delievering the Hachibi or not killing jay. But still, Sasuke can't be blamed for any kind of independance he made on his own terms, it's the same with all anti heroes.

So Sasuke isn't allowed to be awesome or impressive to you? He's Kishi's main example to contrast Naruto from all the other shonen heroes. Naruto and Sakura are supposed to represent the underdog tone, Sasuke's the genius, and his hype automatically matters because it's the theme of the manga in general, but recently, Naruto went from Zero to hero in a matter of weeks. Not only that, he's showing Sasuke type tatics and moves. I assumed Naruto was a pure power spammer.

Batman brooRAB, every badass anti hero brooRAB. But Sasuke actually has a avenger complex, he's also arrogant yet classy. He's not some Shinji whininy emo boy, he's a cocky, impatient, stubborn and sarcastic alpha male who takes charge and demanRAB respect. I say he's has personality. And Sasuke was manipulated by Itachi only, he tricked all of his other persauders.
Whats changed? Naruto is still loud and wacky, and Sasuke is still calm and serious.

First of all I said he was a flawed foil and rival, which is the point of this thread I made, but now I see I have to defend him because Sasuke hatred is common everywhere they're a Naruto fanbase.But the concept of the theme is still there, Naruto will always be the foil to Sasuke. In jutsu's, ideals, and presentation. Then whats the point of Naruto feeling lower than life to Sasuke then when Kishi can easily write Naruto beating Sasuke? Those character are my favorites ironically, I like the quiet characters in anime. Ninja's should be fast, swift, triky, mysterious, and extremely badass in style. Naruto is not anywhere near this part of my standarRAB.

You know, I figured Naruto could master the Rasangan without the sudden bushin feints and kyuubi. Guess I was wrong. No, Sage Mode is to powerful even for Pain who's supposed to be the most powerful ninja in the manga. A doujutsu abilty that makes you blind. Amaterasu and Tsukuyomi might as well be fodder jutsu because characters like Kira Bee and Madara can escape it with ease. And it's proven you can break out of genjutsu by just over riding the chakra within your own. Sage Mode basically has no weakness as it's power is nature itself and can basically give you enahcned strength, speed, and durabilty. KN4 much? Even if you are right, Naruto has proven to be the strongest character chakra wise for quite some time now. Not only are those enough but they are the highest level abilties in the manga that no one can beat. And he can use the KB to scout info too. Sasuke's only got 2. Sharigan, and CS. The rest he had to work his but off to learn.
It didn't even hurt Karin while she was on fire!!! It's crap!!! But shafts everyone else and makes Naruto the ultimate everything!!!! How is characters like Lee and Sakura going to compete!!! Naruto basically has no weaknesses, no limits, and no set backs. He's unstopable.

Naruto has nothing to do with the ******** Kishi's making Naruto get into. Pain so far hasn't even lived up to his hype. Naruto is beating his ***** silly and meanwhile Sasuke's going blind and everyone else is either dead or hurt. It's rushed development basically, even Sasuke isn't that good at developing in a rapid rate.

Pain is a joke, because a genin almost took out Hell Realm. Or a main character plot shield. But see when Pain can solo everyone in the strongest village in the world and not take out a kid with a bunch of frogs. It gets too one sided for me.
If Naruto fights again, Naruto will be either nerfed to death or he will just blow the enemy away with Sage Mode FRS and thats that. Naruto is too strong, even for Sasuke. And your calling me a fan boy, at least I'm not the one in denial about the rushed and mediorce plot twist that even Oda and Kubo would shake their heaRAB in shame, but who cares it's Naruto!!!!

Ever heard of Tengu demons? Ninja Hypnosis? Real Ninja elements are used in this manga. But the way ninja's act is hardly existant.
When has Sasuke cried, whined, complained about anything? Oh and don't bring up the Madara revelation that was totally legit for him since he was finally finding out the truth. Name em. I dare you. Sasuke has never cried up until after the Uchiha revelation part of the story, matter fact it's the first time he's cried after he was a little boy. Of course, he's a goal driven man of course. He's mature enough to lead of team of misfits and keep them in check, mature enough to have intellegent conversations with other people, he's obviously more mature enough to mask his emotions in the heat of battle and stay true to the ninja way in terms of perosnality. Compared to naruto and sakura, who rages, cries, yells at everyone and everything that gives them trouble. Their solution to everything is punching, rasangan or trash talking their enemies. Yes you can? So who's your favorite character?

Right call me a fan boy and make double standarRAB for yourself because you obviously like to defend Naruto like he's your biggest idol. I can't opinion? Come on.
 
I like Shonen tropes. Naruto would be better with more of them and less of Sasuke.

Its even why I can't enjoy One Piece, because it ditches the Shonen tropes I like but keeps some that I don't particularly care for
 
Not at all. Naruto is a genin in rank only, I'd say that's been true ever since the start of part 2. Ninja ranks are not always a good measure of power in this series, that much is pretty clear by now.

Also, please take note of what I said. This thread doesn't need to get so argumentative.
 
Here's the thing: nobody likes Sasuke. Nobody respects him. Gaara sought a purpose in life by serving others, Sasuke sought a purpose in life by serving himself as the expense of others. Innocent others, mind you.



I concur with this statement and am glad you found a way to so eloquently place it.
