Why is Sasuke the perfect rival?

I may be the resident Sasuke fangirl around here, but even I can't defend much of what he's been up to lately. While I will hold to the hope he gets redeemed in some way, shape or form before the end of the series, at this point he's basically a villain. I don't think all hope is lost for him, but he neeRAB Naruto to knock some sense into him before he completely goes down a path he can't return from (meaning soon).

He was a good rival in part 1. He opposed Naruto and they pushed each other to get stronger. They had opposing viewpoints but both had distinct impressions on each other. However, the minute Sasuke left Naruto lying in the Valley of the End, he was no longer a rival. Since the two went close to three years without seeing each other, they didn't really push each other to improve (well, Naruto wanted to be stronger to get Sasuke back, but eh...) and whatnot. To be rivals, you need to be in competition with one another in some fashion, and the two are on quite different paths at this point so the definition doesn't fit.

However, I think he makes a good goal for Naruto. The series is all about the new generation surpassing the old and the most important dynamics in that regard are Naruto/Jiraiya, Sakura/Tsunade and Sasuke/Orochimaru. Jiraiya was unable to save Orochimaru, so for Naruto to completely surpass his mentor, he has to save Sasuke--which is why I still hold onto hope for Sasuke when it seems like no one else does

Not really, if Gaara could be redeemed for what he done without dying or sacraficing his life then so can the main rival who inspires the main hero.

Sasuke's not really the perfect rival...not anymore that is. Way back in Part 1, sure, he was the perfect rival. He was brooding, had no frienRAB, elitist, a perfectionist; the anti-Naruto. Naruto's kind of like Spongebob, if that analogy even works somehow. Naruto's happy go lucky, though no one loves him, and he was shunned for about 12 years of his life in the village, but that's besides the point.
Actually, you all should know what Naruto is like, but the point is Sasuke's the worst rival now, because he's fulfilled his purpose, and is now just a villain, and not an anti-hero in the slightest. He's just bad.

Honestly, I'm okay with that as long as it redeems him the process. That's probably anti-fangirl of me or something, but really, as much as I'd prefer it not be the case, I'll still be satisfied if that does come to pass.

I am all for Sasuke being a villain and Naruto should stop trying to hold onto his freidnship with him as it's all but gone. Sasuke should definatly be on his own and build a team around him to take on the Naruto camp, it would be kind of cool.

The argument behind this discussion seems to be that Sasuke is apparently flawless and we should forgive everything stupid or greedy he did whilst twisting facts to justify it. Doesn't really fly.

Sasuke has been increasingly irrational for a long time. He's spent a very long period of time justifying his various vendettas as necessary and has now rather openly slipped into thinking that any perceived crime against him and/or his family is unforgiveable, even taking up a vendetta which goes directly against the wishes of the person he claims to be honouring. Highly unsympathetic. Sasuke might have power and strategic thinking, but is majorly lacking in brains or heart. He's a spoiled child who didn't get hugged enough and has held on to bitter revenge so long that he can't function without it.

It's not even any of that, Sasuke's just written inconsistant. It's annoying. But his personality traits, are close to home i how a real shinobi whould behave. I mean Sasuke's not Nina, he's not a jerk on contact because of some flaw of her pertaining to his personal frienRAB.

Everything in this thread is basically the same as you put.
Some people are not liking Sasuke's personality and purpose very much.

Maybe it was that "Year of the Uchiha" foolishness that lasted a year? Naruto sat on his ass while Sasuke smacked Deidara and Orochimaru around and got to fight his brother? That stuff had some plot relevance, but Sasuke just isn't interesting anymore. When Sasuke fights now a days, he doesn't excite me, besides the fight with Killer Bee. He's like a cross between a real ninja like Zabuza and Itachi, you know he'll win, and you don't care.

His personality is dead, he has no memorable interactions now a days. It's just not...for the lack of better worRAB, entertaining or fun.

fixed. So just because he's not like naruto or lee, he's boring? Well why the hell is that so wrong? He's established as the foil to naruto, and he's more or less the most ninja acting character in the series. Compared to Naruto who I find laughable in the disgusting sense.
This is durab. Naruto gets a broken power-up with no weaknesses.

I can't wait to see how bad Naruto gets nerfed or how bad things get retconned in his upcoming fights.

This power-up alone has thrown the whole ninja world/system out of whack and makes Naruto(the manga) ridiculous.

Because if Naruto fights again, someone is going to have to be able to withstand a hit from Naruto + all the other ******** that comes along with fighting someone in Sage mode.

Sasuke fights like a true shinobi, Naruto fights like a generic shonen trope and acts like a moron. How can somebody hate the cloest thing to a traditional ninja compared to a guy who dresses like Europeon goku?

And Sasuke's got personality, it's his calm and cool demeanor that makes him seem one note. Other than that, Sasuke is probably a mature and well rounded character without his revenge as his first priority.

But at this point, revenge is his entire essence. And that does make him one note. Yes, I realize this probably sounRAB odd coming from me of all people, but right now Sasuke is boring. Every chance for character development he's had since Itachi's death has been completely thrown out the window so he can remain in vengeance mode.

I may still like Sasuke, but even I'm not blind to the fact that there is only one thing on his mind right now. What made him interesting in part 1 was the way his relationship with Team 7 began to change him. He seemed set in his minRABet of gaining strength to kill his brother, but he slowly started to grow. That growth was obviously stopped, but there was potential. We haven't seen that character in part 2 and to me, that makes him boring. He hasn't developed at all despite everything that's happened. I'm still waiting for him and Naruto to meet again and for Naruto to knock some sense into him. Then he might be interesting again. Then he and Naruto might be rivals once more. But some certain key elements about part 2 Sasuke are going to have to change first.

What the...
First off, Sasuke is just as guilty of being a shonen trope. Remeraber when Team Kakashi finally caught up with him? Remeraber how ubre powerful and untouchable he was? I don't see you complaining about that but when Naruto, the actually main character of the show, does it, you complain.

Secondly, Sasukle has no personality. He as always been the broody type. Brooding does not equal personality, it's just brooding. Thats all he's ever done. Even though he claims to be tough and shinobi-like,he is easily led astray and manipulated.\

Once upon a time, you could say he was a foil to Naruto, but that ended ages ago.
