Why is Sasuke the perfect rival?

Not a Sasuke fan, but I do like him. Kishimoto said Sasuke was his image of a perfect rival, but as time goes on. Sasuke is far from perfect, he's not even highly skilled. A smidge better than Naruto sure, but compared to kira Bee, itachi and most of the akatsuki, he's a n00b. If Sasuke were perfect, he'd be perfectly executed as a character, not a burabling mess of psychosis. I see that Sasuke is one of Kishimoto's flawed creations, but I exepected Sasuke to live up to his standarRAB as the benchmark of Naruto by Kishi, now we got a Superuto and nearly blind Sasughey. Explain?
 
Because the mani character is Naruto. The 2 were in the same class, and when they were Sasuke was the best and Naruto the worst. Sasuke's always been a benchmark Naruto was driving to voercome, that's why he's the ultimate rival. Itachi and Akatsuki and various other older types of characters are opponents, but Naruto doesn't see them as equals with an advange to overcome.
 
Yeah I really don't like Kishimoto's fascination. Personally I would have put Gaara as an equal, since they're so alike.

But in a way Sasuke is sort of an opposite of Naruto. He lost his 'precious people' instead of gaining some, he's never had to fight hard to get the respect he got (but instead for pressure to succeed) and he never actually wanted to be close to people like Naruto yearned to.
 
My stance on Sasuke as a rival is this...

He is the worst rival of all time, he is bad, and should feel bad. I didn't even know he was supposed to be a rival until someone pointed it out.

I don't see the appeal in him, and the more I see, it feels more like he just a villain than a plain rival.
 
Sasuke is the most popular character. He's gave Naruto some of his great and go getting attitude to change people. He saved Sakura's life and encourages her to the point where she would sacrafice herself for others, Kakashi likes him like surrogate father. And he's one of the strongest ninja's.

I guess Sasuke isn't as bad, but he sucks.
 
hmmm He doesn't seem to be Rival status anymore.
He and Naruto are now on completely different levels and goals (or something)

Sasuke was already a skilled fighter as a Genin. It was Naruto that was playing catch up.

It was later that they were about equal and even enjoying it.


Now if it is a Rivalry to be stronger, than I guess it's still there. But it just doesn't seem the same. The story changed up and the two are doing their own thing. Why would you want someone back as a friend, when they made it clear as day, that they don't want to be your friend, and they don't want to be around others?

Emo-check

Dramatic over used past- check

Main character's best friend- check

Want's to be all powerful so he runs away to the Micheal Jackson of the Naruto world- check.

Has a sword- check

Has a army of fan girls that have no end- check

That's mostly why.

he gets a sword in the next series "Shippuden"
 
He's not really emo, he loves to show off, is cocky, and like to fight. He's confident in himself and his abilties. He moves forward instead of backwarRAB, he's really arabitious. He doesn't feel sorry for himself and he doesn't hate the world.

Any good main rival and foil has a drmatic past.

Also, greatest opponent.

Sasuke ran away because he felt he wasn't getting stronger. Also, the CS had something to do with it to.

Also, not sure if it's just me, but I really don't like the word "emo" thrown around like it is. Everywhere you go, if you see a guy who's had a hard life, struggles, etc... people just screw using other worRAB to describe said person by calling 'em "emo."

Does Sasuke brood a lot? Yeah. Is he always about "Vengeance this, kill my brother that".. yes. Does that make him "emo"? I don't know. I'm not sure if I even know the definition anymore, what with the way it's tossed around so carelessly.

Anyway, I don't think Sasuke is a perfect rival. I think he's just a bother.
