Whites: New Comedy on BBC2

It look's like that doesn' it. They've made Alan Davies look very similar to Marco; the big hair. Also, the've called the show White's. It seems they're using Marco Pier White's life as a starting point, possibly as the basis of this whole show.

I like it, it's not laugh out loud funny, but it's amusing enough with a decent cast (most of whom I'm a fan of in other things). Like someone said above it is (or at least I see it as) more of a humorous drama than a sitcom.

I don't see the appeal of her. Ok, the character in The IT Crowd is good but I don't rate her as much of an actress. Everything i've seen her in is pretty much the same.

Was that the premise?

Nothing in the synopsis or the blog by the writers mention that he's a celebrity chef.
It implies that he is a successful chef and a budding writer.

Surely a celebrity chef wouldn't have a problem getting a book deal?

I thought it was a little predictable. The line/joke about animals made from meat and the chef getting locked in the freezer etc.

It did seem to heavily hang on the sous chef and I think that is a good point in that there isn't just one or two main characters but it is a group situation where every character plays a part.

my brother is a chef and says it's quite realistic to have an annoying chef such as Scuse!!! Chefs spend so much time together during the long hours of a kitchen so would often torment each other!

Just thought it was worth mentioning (though I know Im preaching to the converted on here, so apologies in advance) that 'Whites' are the uniforms that kitchen-staff wear.

So, the series/comedy is about the characters who populate a professional kitchen and wear the 'whites' - not about a pisstake of Marco Pierre White (although that is a happy coincidence).

I thought Episode 1 was a good scene-setter with some nice comedy moments and Im looking forward to the rest of the series. I already hate Scoose with a vengeance. ;-)

It's trying to be your typical build-to-a-cringe comedy, already seen in the likes of The Office, Peep Show, Extras, Partridge, The Inbetweeners etc. The difference is, those have plenty of chuckles along the way, whereas this has none at all.

Also, there's no subtle early build-up to the cringe in Whites. Last night with the Parkinsons-scene for example, it all came along a bit last minute and was predictable and not particularly amusing.

Whereas in the aforementioned comedies, they often stick many things in early on which don't make much sense until the cringe-worthy climax at the end. The wrist-band wasn't really sufficient tbh.

According to Alan Davies on breakfast this is indeed the premise.

He was a well known chef but no-one takes any interest in him anymore, he's had his "10 minutes of fame" so to speak.

Alan also said that his character is not based on any real chef.
