This is part of non-regulated business. It's not about the destructive nature of big business. It's about holding big business responsible for mistakes they make rather than bailing them out (same as should have been done with GM). That's part of having less regulation in the oil drilling business. Companies are trusted to work in good faith for the safety of the public region in which they work on leased land. This company did not. As a result we hold them responsible. So should the gulf victims.
No one but BP is holding them as sacrificial lambs.
That's how law works. The guilty are held responsible for their crimes and restitution is paid to those affected.
The innocent are suffering at the hands of BP....not the government...not nature. Therefore they should seek restitution from BP.
If I get hit by a car I don't expect the government to pay me. I expect the person who hit me with the car to pay me.
