Actually I dont have $100 for fuel + living expenses + time to give up working my own job.
 
But if you think I should drive myself into the poor house helping BP clean up their fuck up, go ahead and say it. If the shores close to me had oil on them I'd already be out there every weekend.
 
It's not their responsibility to clean it but it's their responsibility to make sure that whoever is responsible learns some responsibility by the people who are not responsible just sitting there and watching those they deemed responsible take responsibility.

THe oil spill is the cause of the problem. The problems are both the environmental impact and the economic impact for the tax paying citizens government is meant to protect. wether or not it assists BP is immaterial they shoud concern themselves w/ assisting the victims, the citizens who rely on a healthy ocean to pay their taxes. Government should concern itself w/ doing what is necessary to protect its people when they are in jeapordy.
by your own admission they're not solving the problem BP is....they are concerned w/ preventing the potential for future disasters and not w/ protecting the taxpayers directly effected except to say, "don't worry we'll prosecute so this can't happen again." ...."feed your children w/ the promise of a better future, and pay your mortgage w/ hope"
 
Environmental groups that oppose companies cutting corners for economic profits at the risk of increased damage to the environment should use their resources reducing the costs to said companies when their corner cutting results in damage to the environment. Makes cents.

For someone who thinks welfare just makes the situation worse....now you're understanding how the liberal side views this situation. Corporate welfare only encourages them to repeat the same mistakes by lessening the news coverage and cost they have to pay.

Inaction...is the appropriate action in their mind.
 
I think this is all some cool, removed intellectual exercise for them. It isn't about the people or the environment. It's a political oportunity...a chance to show the destructive nature of big business. lead gulf state residents as sacrifical lambs to slaughter on the altar of politics. They see only BP vs. the government. the people exist only as future litigants, what they suffer in blood sweat and tears will be paid for w/ money and so all will be right. There is only the principle of government punishing the guilty while letting the innocent suffer. You mention the victims and they tell you not to worry b/c BP will be made to take care of them once the damage is done. I truly think they would sacrifice these people to principle w/out a second thought.
 
why would they do that? spending it all on advertisement nets them larger brand awareness, which drives further donations.

how are the treehuggers going to get any money if they spend it all on being useful?
 
I dunno, but the cost of that help certainly shouldn't rest on the company that cut corners and caused the disaster in the first place as a means to save money. I'm directing my tardrage at any environmental group that doesn't do everything it can to alleviate the unfair burden on said company.

you don't know. you haven't considered it. it's immaterial. you are so politically jaded that the taxpaying citizens suffering the dire economic and environmental consequenses of this disaster are less of a concern to you than placing appropriate blame on those responsible for the . disgusting.
 
I'm talking about Charity work, not welfare. The rest of what you said didn't make any sense to me but the spin you put on everything is beyond incredible so I have to give you credit there.

The cause of the problem was BP.


It's not immaterial....they're directly responsible for the spill. Legally they are responsible.
