What movies suprised you?

Mean Girls - Totally clever, very funny. The cast actually did a really great job, and I was highly entertained. :)

What Women Want - I remembered that everyone loved the trailer, saw the movie and said it sucked. I went into it with low expectations and ended up really liking it! :)

Spiderman 2 - Even though I adored the first one, the complete awesomeness that was the second installment left me speechless. :D
 
Saw. Very bizarre. The ending was very twisted. Not what I expected at all.

Napoleon Dynamite. I didn't want to see it. I ended up loving the movie though. It was hilarious. I love his voice.

Lord of the Rings (all of them). I was surprised at how long and utterly boring these movies were. I just don't understand why everyone makes such a big deal about them. They don't impress me at all and I'm not a huge fan of Elijah Wood.

Secret Window. Johnny Depp is my favorite actor and I have liked all his movies. I wasn't a big fan of this one though. It wasn't completely horrible, just not what I expected.

Eight Crazy Nights and 50 First Dates. I ended up loving these two movies despite the fact that I can't stand Adam Sandler. They were both hilarious though. I bought 50 First Dates on DVD and I watch it all the time.

Sin City. Loved it. I knew I would but I loved it even more than I thought possible. It was really great. Awesome cast. Different than most movies I have ever seen.
 
I was also suprised by it but because I knew it didn't have a normal set. It was all in a huge studio, with no walls or doors on the houses. I thought I wouldn't like it and I only watched uit because I'm a Lars von Trier and a Nicole Kidman fan.
I ended up loving the movie. It was one of the best movies I saw in 2003.
 
Finding Nemo really surprised me! I really didn't know what to expect from it, but it turned into one of my all time favorites. It is a funny movie, but still makes you cry! it was great for kids and adults
 
The ending of The Departed... I was shocked by basically everyone dying :lol:

Hostel I thought that I was going to love it but I hated it with a passion of thousand horses. I HATE ELI ROTH!!!!!!!

The Sixth Sense I saw it in the theater when it first came out and it was before we all know about Shyamalan's twist endings so when the twist came I nearly fell out of my chair.
 
Spiderman - I'm usually not into action hero type flicks but I loved Spiderman! I was watching it first on a movie channel on tv and I only planned on watching a few minutes of it but I got so into it. It was awesome! The action and everything was so cool. And I really wasn't expecting much. Guess I was wrong!
 
Also I'll have to add the Black Dahlia in the list of films that suprised me and not in a good way. I went to the cinema expecting to love it, since the plot sounded interesting, it had a good cast (especially a hunky Eckhart) and I usually love film noirs. But within 20 minutes of the film, I was bored to tears and when I left the theater I was really annoyed that I wasted so much time on such a piece of crap.
 
Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines - It was decent. I was expecting the worst movie ever made, but I liked it. I mean, it was no T1/T2, but it wasn't totally horrible. Nick Stahl wasn't a great John Connor, but a lot had to do with the writing so now I feel bad for the guy.
 
I had a good surprise when I watched The Ring on dvd. I thought it'd be one of those scary movies that don't really scare anyone but I was wrong, it was pretty good. Actually, I don't get scared easily but I was a lot tense during it. I recommend it for the fans of the spooky ones :eek:
 
The big movies that have surprised me are the Super Hero/Comic Book ones.

Namely, Spider Man and the X-Men series. I like(d) the films when I saw them... But their sequels completely won me over as far as these being "legit" franchises that are worth my time and I will make it a point now to go and see them when they are in the theaters and not just wait for DVD because I end up regretting it.

As far as disappointments... Garden State.

I had heard it was this amazing film and it has such a great cast (and it does)... But ultimately, the movie left me numb and empty.

I admit, I am probably not the movie's main target demographic (teens; early20s), but I usually like any film that deals with emotional turmoil and drama no matter whom the movie is aimed at, I.E. Mean Girls... But this one I felt was just more hype than substance and or I just can't relate to it because I am not 18, any more.

Garden State is a good movie, but I think its been hyped up into this paragon of Generation Y just so they have something to claim as theirs and identify with.
 
The Departed and Perfect Stranger really suprised me... I don't think I would have guessed the endings that these two movies had.
 
Come on, when they had the 'flashback' and made fun of Saturday Night Fever? I literally wet my panties, I laughed so hard :lol:
 
I know. I noticed it right off the bat too. I was like, how did he know he hurt her neck? I wasn't expecting that twist at all. He was so terrific, as in Fight Club and American History X. He is such an underrated actor and dosen't get nearly enough credit IMHO and it's a shame.

Donnie Darko & High Tension are two more films, that still make me scratch my head. Didn't see the ending coming on either of these two films.
 
Positive suprises:

Million Dollar Baby - I thought it would be "american dream" movie, you know, she is nothing and she is becoming a boxing star. I was wrong (happily).

Trainspotting - it's not a movie only about druggies.

The Village - I really liked ending! :)

Closer - I absolutly love it, and I didn't expect so intelligent movie.

Negative suprises:

Alexander - I liked Troy, and I hoped I would like Alexander too. But I was too long, too boring, too... This movie just sucked.

LOTR: The Return Of The King - I don't know why, but sth. didn't work in this part, like it worked in previous two parts.

Oceans Eleven - many stars, good director and poor movie.
 
Pay it Foward - This movie is a few years old and I when I saw it on video I haven't even heard of it and I remember my cousin who was in her late teens at the time made me see this and at the time I was still hardly a 'tween' and I thought it was going to be boring but it was really good! I don't remember much from it but I remember that it was really good but sad at the end.
 
In a bad way, "A Good Year." I thought it was going to be dreamy and lovely. It was boring and predictable. I was expecting too much, I know, but even if, the movie was just bad.
 
Along Came Polly: i knew b4hand the movie would be good...but it turned out to so hilarious. :lol:

Spiderman 2: i watched the first one...and i didn't enjoy it...so i didn't understand all the hype about it. The second one was amazing overall...exceeded my expectations.
