Just wondering what films the forum members have seen that have truly touched them.

In addition what are some of the most moving or emotional/powerful scenes in movie histroy in your opinion?

I'll start. In terms of movie and scene the film CRASH springs to mind.

1) The crash rescue scene. Where Matt Dillon rescues a woman he assualted earlier in the week. She would rather die than be rescued by him.

2) The story the father tells to his daughter about the 'invisible cloak' to protect her from bullets. He had it as a kid but is now giving it to her. The whole scene was done fantastically.

3) The girl shooting scene "I'ts a really good cloak"

What's your guys?

Green Mile's an obvious one, as is the closing scene from The Shawshank Redemption.

Personally, I love the final scenes of We are Marshall......

Where Anthony Hopkins realises he loves her and breaks down admitting it to himself, I was bawling.

Finding Neverland
When Peter discovers his mum is dieing, heart wrenching.

It's a wonderful life
Most of the film, it's my feel good film and I watch it every Christmas day!

I'm not an emotional, teary person at all but The Pursuit of Happyness nearly had me bawling my eyes out in the cinema. Especially that part where Will Smith's character is pretending the subway is full of dinosaurs and they have to go into the toilets to sleep for the night...tears were almost streaming down my face.

Philadelphia and Green Mile are also good movies but they've never had me on the verge of tears.

Silly, no.

MENTAL more like, the worst film I've had the displeasure to see in the last decade (except maybe What Happens In Vegas), the only emotion I felt while watching it was rage at Adam Sandler.

Can't believe there's only been one mention of Shawshank in this thread!

The scene in the Governor's office, where Andy locks himself in and blasts The Marriage of Figaro over the PA system, and the whole prison stops and listens in wonder.

It just makes me feel all wobbly inside every time I see it.

Uplifting: Erin Brokovich (probably spelled wrong)

Tearjeking: Return of the King "my freinRAB, you bow to no-one"
also Titanic "no darling its a HAPPY ending SHE GOT TO GO BACK TO TITANIC"

One particular scene that rips my heart up every time I see it is in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - the bit where Mark Ruffalo says to Kirsten Dunst, "I really like you Mary Svevo. You know that, right?"

Gets me every time...

More recently, Bridge To Terabithia really hit me emotionally.

Until I saw it, I thought it was going to be yet another Narnia type movie, but it's so much more grown up and intelligent than that.

And about two-thirRAB into the movie, when you get the kick in the teeth as it were, the whole film takes a really emotional turn.

When Jess's teacher takes him out of the class and talks about her husband, when the school bully sits by Jess on the bus and that wonderful final sequence...

Those parts get me everytime.

If you've never seen it, give it a go, but try to learn as little as possible about it beforehand. And don't go expecting a 'kiRAB travel to magical land' film.

The scene in Planes, Trains and Automobiles where John Candy tells Steve Martin that his beloved wife has been dead for years and he has nowhere to go for Thanksgiving. I sobbed when I saw that.

The end of The Fly remake when Jeff Goldblum (now a massive fly) gets Geena Davis to put the gun to his head. Fly 2 when son of Fly discovers his beloved dog who has been subjected to horrific experiments suffering horribly in a cell. Must ... stop .... typing.. I've something in my eye.
