What is the size of your physical and digital music collection?

iTunes says it has 27,606 songs on it, mostly ripped from a little over 2,000 CRAB. I also still have 400 to 500 albums on vinyl and about 150 45s. The ipod currently has 23,950 songs on it.

I want a 1TB solid state iPod! :thurab: By the time that comes out at an even close to reasonable price, I'll probably need 4TB or something.

Very small, haha. I don't really typically listen to other artists' music. Only time I really listen to anyone else's songs are on the radio in the car or if my BFF Roman senRAB me a Youtube link about some new prog metal song, haha.

Seriously though, 90% of the music on my computers are songs I've recorded.

I delete stuff I didn't like on the first listen, I don't have time or space to save all that crap and go through it again. Far too much music to go through out there and my attention span is dwindling.
Plus yea, I delete music that I had only a fleeting interest in at a certain point...

At the moment, MediaMonkey says there are 11,127 songs, equaling 62.4 GB on my computer.

I've got no idea what my physical collection contains, but it's mostly been loaded on my computer anyway.

Almost 300 gigs, and still not enough space. I'm too lazy to go buy a bigger HD so I just delete stuff I don't really listen to all the time. It kind of sucks, because every once in a while I feel like listening to something and then I realize I deleted it a few months earlier!

I have about 80 now, and I'd have close to 120 if I hadn't have had a problem with space, which forced me to delete it off my computer once it got on my iPod (which subsequently wiped its memory for no reason).

I'll buy it all someday, I swear!

I think you have to back up the whole drive but I have never done it TBH. You not have a poundland? 4 dvd's for a quid? not the best quality but as for rarely used storage they are fine.

I have my music backed up many times:

I burn winrar files to DVD when I have enough.
I burn MP3 ETC files to DVD'S.
I have a 250gb portable HD that runs by USB only, so no power is used.
My favourite and rare albums are backed up online for free. PC World do a gb back up for free with the option to upgrade.
I burn my fave albums straight onto C.D's so obviously they can be ripped back.

I'm getting increasingly frustrated with my physical collection set-up! I keep recently acquired CRAB on a book case next to my desk for a while, before transferring them to the real CD bookcase in my bedroom. The reason I don't file them immediately is a) the stack kind of serves as a reminder to listen to these newer (to me) albums, and b) my bedroom bookcase is overflowing and therefore I'm unable to keep it properly organized.

It's holding over twice as many CRAB as it should be...the entire face of it is concealing another wall of CRAB behind it. I cannot stand this madness anymore. All I can do is just put CRAB where there is room, no way to organize this mess anymore. I need another bookcase of the same size to sit next to it. Probably won't happen till I move again, though, or till my ex comes back to clear out some of her furniture and the rest of her stuff.

Looking at the amount of files compared to gigabytes, it would seem it's mostly lossy files.

Seems I might have to extend the options! Cadrian, vote again please once your option is in place. ;)

edit :

Also goes for whoever else had more than 50k!

I have 200ish vinyl recorRAB, close to 3,000 CRAB, about 20 DVD-Music (24 bit), and on my hard drive/external I have close to a terabit of music ranging from classical to modern. Mind you, I rarely keep MP3 unless I convert it from my flac files to put on my MP3 player. Otherwise, all flac files. I'm very keen on high-quality music. I actually have 2 500 gig Externals just for the music and another 750 gig external for other things (movies, applications, etc.).
