Any possiblility of a tree getting in the way of the dish? When your signal fluctuates like that, a lot of time it is a tree blowing in the wind. Check it out.

Wow that is a tight footprint considering N. Ca is the same latitude as S. Ontario.

I wondered if the contest winner actually did go to the launch delayed from the spring.. lol.

So I am a bit confused on the use for the Ka-band on this bird.
I read this, but does this mean at least some of the ka-band will be used for spot beams? I am sure I am not reading the info correctly.

I've been hearing that for 2 years now. :D I'm guessing not until after N5 is launched. That was planned for 2009 but I am predicting a launch delay until 2010. That also assumes that the deployment of N4 and N5 are 100% successful. That's not a sure bet. :o

I don't think a footprint exists, as of yet. There would be no need for Bell to make one, as the footprint covers all of Canada, and thats all they are obligated to do. I think (but could be wrong) that a footprint will be made, from posts on forums like this, of people stating what size dish they have, and their geographic location, signal strength, etc... It will come, but I think it will take time for enough data to be collected, and dishes to be aimed!
Good luck southern canucks!

Yes that is correct as of this morning no signal off 82 at all. For us it's gone or do we move the dish to it's new location??

I never lost signal here in Boston, but it seems like there is more transponders in the 90's than there was when I last checked last week. Maybe they are still not finished setting it up.

Now I'm really frustrated 3 weeks ago I changed out both LNB's and got new switches, things were fine last night, now, today nothing on 82 odd TP's only TP3 with 78% shows up

1 week? Wow. I expected 6 to 8 weeks to have it go production (speaking of Nimiq 4), but 1 week is indeed fast. I guess we'll see. Launch next Thursday.

Quote from the latest ILS blog, "The NIMIQ-4 launch campaign continues to stay on schedule. After its ride on the tilter, the satellite and Breeze M were encapsulated by the payload fairing halves, and just like a butterfly from a caterpillar, the SC and Breeze M are now an Ascent Unit. The fun continued while the gang "tagged" the fairing logos and posed for pictures."

I recorded my transponder strengths but it is cloudy so I don't know if I'll be able to make a comparison tomorrow. Maybe I'll wait up till midnight just for fun to see what happens.

Why do yankees want BellTV?? Former Canadians?? I sort of understand snowbirds.. thats one thing.. but for an american whos been an american all his life wanting Bell.. ughh.. I wish I could have Dish so badly.. but I cant sub to it :(

Just to add something.. I know Nimiq 4 has a 32Ku and 8Ka TP's.. what are the possibilities for the KA Bands??? Maybe I'm wrong.. but does DirecTV use both Ku and Ka bands??

What does this mean for people who currently have there dish pointed at 82?

Will we have to re alighn to the new location or will Bell put N4 in the 82 slot with no problems for the consumer. This is getting very confusing as I have seen channels on 82 disappear and signal strenhths have gone way down in the past week or so?? Even on 91 strengths have gone down.

Are we doomed at some point to upgrade our system, I currently have 2 -6100's????

Keep an eye out in your guide for a bunch of stations that say 'Off Air' overnight. That would signify N4 taking over the workload.

FWIW...transponder 10 is one of the ones on 91 that is always cutting out on me too...along with transponder 14 as well as a few others. Yet my 82 transponders are all perfect.

The slightest bit of rain seems to cause this.

Yes, Bell could go with a single dish solution, like the new Dish 1000.4. But it would need to be a custom solution for Canada, maybe even a custom solution for east (using 72.5) and west (using 129). This would be very expensive for Bell, and may require them to move to using Dish Pro technology, with all the added licensing fees to Dish networks. I doubt it will ever happen; Bell has not shown much interest in investing heavily in new technology. The Canadian market is too small to make custom solutions affordable. So, we will be stuck with using legacy LNBs and switches, and a second dish.

Well doesnt directv have a sat at the 99 orbital slot?? Couldnt this be a trade off, I give you 16 tranponders at 72 and I get 16 at 99?? that way you have west running at 82\91\99 and east on 72\82\91.. maybe im crazy

I just finished installing my system 3 days ago so I can only tell you that since 3 days ago my signals have been like that. Prior to that I was having trouble getting a good signal from 82 and 91 at the same time using the 20" dish that came with the system. I got frustrated and gave up and ordered a second dish. So I now have 82 on a 24" dish and the 91 on the 20" dish. I probably did not need the 24" dish but it was only a few dollars more so I got it.

I do not believe that Nimiq 2 is failing at all.....

Yes it is crippled, it was within days of deployment, I do not believe it has got any worse over the years.

It will be interesting to see how many US customers Bell actually had when people start to cancel there account. I estimated a guess about 8000 in the US which is equal to 5.3 milion per year of revenue.

I could be way off on the 8000....even if it was 4000 that still equal 2.6 mil per year of revenue lost to Star Choice

The Bell leaders have to be worst than the Leafs management

Now to make up for the loss of revenue, current canadain Bell customers will no doubt be hit with a price increase to help cover the cost of N4.

I would say we here in the US did our part to help keep the cost down but this is out of our control...

Buy some stock in Star Choice!!!

Quote from alebowgm

"With that said, I still hold out hope that Bell/Dish work out an agreement for use of Nimiq5 and Ciel 2 at both 72.5 and 129, where Dish gets half of the TPs on both and Bell gets to use the other half for HD and such (probably setting up a mirror of the two dishes for the east and west coast)."

I hope you are correct. This way, at least we Canadian would get some benefit from the accessing 16 transponders on both Canadian slots (129 and 72.7). Bell could service the West and East with good angles. However, I understand Dish wants to use all 32 transponders on 72.7 for its new Eastern Arc offering. Bell has not indication any plans to use 72.7, and may well face pressure from Dish not to use 72.7 (or 129). Pity, Bell does appear to have any future plans nor a backbone.
