Thanks jumpy27. I had no idea that md was responding to me. Also thanks to md. I understand now.

A number of my odd TP's are in the 90's today, but many are still high 70's, low 80's.

Here in Philadelphia...with the 18" Evu dish and 82/91 lnbs. Zero signal on tr's 1,2,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,12,13,16,17,20,21,24,25 and 29.
When I switch to the Winegard 24 oval with dedicated lnb. no sig. on 1,4 and 5. I am wondering if the signal will drop further? I have the 9200 pvr

Why is Dish applying to the FCC for permission to use N5? N5 is a Canadian satellite, and 72.7 is a Canadian orbital slot. Bell had better apply to the CRTC/IC first to get their permission to lease the satellite to Dish. And I hope CRTC/IC will reject to application. Really, if Bell does give up their rights to 72.7 to Dish (as they did with 129), we had all better start moving to Cable, since Bell will have no future.

I notice that some HD channels are "OFF AIR" tonight (Friday night) starting at 12:00am Pacific until around 2:30-3:00am. Specific channels are TSNHD, SN HD, PBSE HD, MC1 HD. I notice these are on transponders 16 and 17. I wonder if this is the start of migration to Nimiq 4.

Boston, Mass - the majority are upper 80's with a 1 or 2 in the upper 70's and a few in upper 90's.

I'm living in Southern California and I now have reception on Teletoon Retro and MTV2, which is new for me. I have not, however, gotten Treehouse nor Food Network Canada back. Obviously things are moving around. I guess I'm going to have to go through them all and see if I've gained (or lost) anything else.

VuMax, you have been reporting all the goings on with Nimiq 4.

Are you in Baikonur.? Were you the winner of the competition to see it's launch.?....lol

The ONLY thing that is important right now is finding out difinitively the footprint of this 'so called' 72 bird that BEV is now using for its HIGH DEF....aka Nimiq4

1. can we get a signal lock from 72 with larger antennas, such as 32 inch or above anywhere in CONUS?

2. can we get a signal lock from 72 with a single dedicated legacy or dish pro LNB bracket using Dish-500 plates, which are 20" wide. (using a single LNB bracket not a dual bracket is better if you got one)

these are the two most important questions.

for those with big antennas start searching for 72 and tell us what you get and where you are physically located in CONUS.

this sounds to me like BEV must be now be using EXCLUSIVELY FOR ITS HIGH DEF CUSTOMERS in canada an antenna that is similar in dimensions to the Charlie Dish-1000 antennas (110, 119, 129 = 19 degrees of coverage).

3. Is its coincidence that BEV 3 birds are: 72,82, 91, because that is also 19 degrees of coverage?

we need to know EXACTLY the answers to these 3 key questions above!

The IC licenses are all held by Telesat. CRTC has virtually nothing to do with spectral licensing and orbital positions.

Typically, when an orbital license is granted, there is usually a requirement for a certain percentage of the capacity that is supposed to be earmnarked for Canadian use. However, I think there is a caveat that says something along the lines of, "If the license holder can show that there is no Canadian interest in that capacity, they can by pass the requirement"

Which is basically how they can get around the requirements. They put out a call for interest (Like they have just done with Ext-Ku at 111.1) with an end date. Anything left after that date can be sold to "other entities"

This is probably how they can go a sell an entire satellite to Dish. Either that or since Telesat's customer is Bell, they can claim that they are abiding by the 'canadian use' regulations. Even though Bell sub-leases the capacity south of the border.

For those who are wondering why stations are now coming in that were not previously, here is the latest uplink report.

One thing that is interesting to note is that a lot of people south of the boarder are now saying they can no longer get signal on 82w, so looks like it is a much more tigther beam.

No additional bandwidth added. But by using a footprint similar to the one that was used on the old Anik E2 satellite, it will focus a greater signal on the west coast. This will allow Bell to have the option to use 8PSK and MPEG4.

Telesat is probably still adjusting the beam of individual transponders. But if you have 0 signal now and in about a week, no point in getting dish as you are out of the footprint.

BeV will probably run a "double" system (or close to it) for a while: MPEG-4 with 8PSK on one and today's system as a backup for those cases with not working cards and/or receivers until replaced. Somewhere half way during this transition, as the bandwidth advantages of 8PSK will start to show, BeV can switch everything over to the new satellite including whatever old MPEG-2 is left...

But my guess would be this is at least 6 months away.

Think positive, Mike..... I will be a runaway success.....

Even if it isnt, I am sure there is a lot of Space Junk birds that can be leased if needed, Dish & Direct have added new birds lately, Bell could just lease these through telsat canada until they actually get another new Bird into orbit.

I just realised that so far, only Nimiq 1 was new and fully functioning after a week or so of launch, the rest are either crippled or spare birds.

Guys, I live near Nanaimo, BC on Vancouver Island. We have been getting a LOT or reception problems over the last year or so. What can I expect from the new satellite arrangements when things get sorted out? Or are they done now?

As I write this it is raining and channel 600 on Bell Express vu has conked out:

Channel 600
Sat 91
Transponder 10
Signal strength 45%
Time 11:04AM PST

WAIT.....

signal strength, just now, miraculously JUMPED to 74%!!!

Is this Bell "playing" with settings? Are they switching between satelittes?

OOPS.. bloody hell... transponder 10 is back down to 43% :(

Nimiq 4 launch has NOTHING to do with Nimiq 1 @ 91w, which is the satellite that you are losing signal on.

I would suggest getting Bell to send out an installer to see if they can either repoint, re-run lines, or install new switches/recievers.
