What is the latest on Nimiq 4?

When did Bell TV start using 72 for HD.

All HD is beamed from 82, which is where Nimiq 4 will live.

If the footprint does NOT cover America, get over it, move to Starchoice if you must have Canadian TV.

It is way to early to start second guessing, wait a month before screaming that the sky is falling, please.

82.3. Seems to be getting ready for use rather quickly. Wonder what BellTv has up its sleeve.

Hey Pinza,

Perhaps it is for the French programming in HD that it matters whether Sat. 82 is available in the US. Did you think of that?

So the key is, someone needs to record their signal strength on 82w TP 16 and 17 and stay up till 3am ET/12:00am PT to see if the signal suddenly goes away. If it does, they then need to wait to see it power back on and record signal strength. That should be a good indicator.

I think typically it's 4-6 weeks assuming everything goes well. Nimiq 4 is a replacement for Nimiq 2. I suspect they will switch to 8PSK and put 4 HD channels per transponder using the same format they do now, then MPEG4 eventually. Just guessing though.

So you are going to now comply with the CSA that you agree to everytime you pay your bill. Good for you.

Well that is true, it also depends on what your peak satellite is in your area. This is something that has to be taken into consideration when aiming 3 or more satellites at once.

I will take Toronto for example. The peak satellite in the sky would be 79.0

There won't be any more capacity initially as the full 32 transponders are being provided by two satellites currently. The only way to provide more capacity is to (a) switch to 8PSK, and/or (b) switch to MPEG4.

Sure enough, Oasis and Treasure are showing the same thing in the guide for that time period on Trans 17.

Funny though, on a clear day on Sept. 20th., I had a 78% signal on transponder 17 which was one of my lowest across 82. Now on a cloudy day (today) I have 82%. Let's see what it shows on Saturday. According to n2yo.com, Nimiq 4 has at least stayed put for over a day. Kinda fun to speculate.

With signal levels like those (promising?) I wonder if a bigger dish will make a difference, or if that is as good as it gets? You are getting borderline signals on the 20" dish that came with it, so hopefully those with bigger dishes will have better luck with getting a decent signal. Keep those signal levels coming in Camaricans and maybe we can get a basic footprint going!

The 72 bird is being used by E* for their Eastern Arc. Nothing to do with Bev. I believe E* has bought 1/2 of Nimiq 5 when it is launched next year which I believe is slated for 72 Deg. spot.

Nimiq 4 is great can't believe how good the reception is on 82 all transponders are at 100% and signal is not lost during rain on 82. Now we just have to get bell to improve reception on 91.

that will be a good idea. b'cause i only have nimiq 91, channels and sometime when its rain hard, well bye bye tv for a while.
