what is everyones favourite horror film ?

The only thing scary about the original Salem's lot is how bad the acting is. I haven't seen all of the new version yet but so far it seems to be better i.e not as cheap looking.

Alien is easily my favourite horror film.

It doesn't exactly come under the film category but I love Ghostwatch too. Mr Pipes still gives me chills :)

I also really like The Eye and Dark Water too.

And the first half of Blind Dead, though it gets crap in the second half.

Scream Trilogy
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (Old)
Hallowe'en 1 and H20
Freddy vs Jason
Candyman
Dawn of the dead (Original and remake)
Cabin Fever
The Shining
Jeepers Creepers 1+2
Darkness Falls :o
IT

Anyone seen Cujo? Rachel watched it on frienRAB its about a Dog

The Wicker Man
Alien
Night of the Demon

Witchfinder General - even though I only saw the last half of it (but was extremely impressed with the ending). Must get it on DVD.

Can't pick between, so my favourite for each decade is

The 60's - Psycho
The 70's - Halloween
The 80's - American Werewolf/Shining/The Changeling (can't decide)
The 90's - Scream
The 00's - Wrong Turn

And the worst horror film I've had the misfortune to sit through have to be Darkness Falls & Vlad

On the subject of horror, has anyone seen a creepy little Australian chiller called Frenchman's Farm. Liked it, but didn't really get it!

PC_Steve - you are so lucky! I want to see House by the Cemetary! I must look it up on Amazon and see if I can get it.
It might already be in my wish list - along with The Nostril Picker, lol. Anyone seen that? :D

Have any of you seen Wendigo? I taped it on Sci-Fi the other night, but the tape mashed up. :(

I've always liked The Shining, but I don't think it's as scary as a lot of people think. The only real bit that scares me is the snow maze at the end.

Alien is a damned good horror. I only watched that properly for the first time about eight years ago. My boyfriend and I were on the sofa together and he bloody well went and fell asleep on me. I spent the rest of the evening cowering. :D

Ooh, ooh, I love all the George Romero zombie flicks too. I am so scared of zombies and dream about them all the time (and they're always vomiting for some reason).

Hmmm, let's look at my video / DVD collection:

The Thing
The Shining
Hellraiser
Evil Dead 1 and 2
The Exorcist
The Wicker Man
The Hitcher
Alien / Aliens

and, of course, Eraserhead.

Definately Don't look now if just for that bit at the end!

Mine would be :

Aliens 1 and 2 (no matter how many times i see them they will scare me senseless)
Jaws 1 and 2
Scream
Halloween
Friday the 13th
Pyscho
Final Destination
The Ring
Pet Semetary (althought the book was scarier)
Carrie

There's a few good ones, but right now I'd say my favourite is Werner Herzog's "Nosferatu". The 1979 version.
Very slow moving, but the atmosphere is very scary, and the music soundtrack adRAB a very haunting feel to it.

On another day my favourites would be the zombie films made by George Romero, "Dawn of the Dead" and "Day of the Dead",....and "Night of the Living Dead" is pretty good too.

There are others that I'm sure I'd rate highly too.
The "Wicker Man" scores highly too.

Oh yeah, "The Thing", that was an excellent film. I forgot about that one.

"The Shining" was a very good film. Very scary film in parts.

And "Dead of Night" is a classic that I'll always love.

:)

:( Nobody's mentioned the original Haunting

My faves;

The Wicker Man

The Haunting (60's one)

The Thing

Devil Rides Out (it's such a treat to see Chris Lee and Charles Gray being diabolical together :D )

Les Diaboliques (again the original)

The Changeling - especially the seance  and the bit where he's listening to the tape  FANTASTIC!

Nosferatu - Herzog (and original)

Cabinet of Dr. Caligari

Also, anyone ever see The Signal Man with Denholm Elliot, used to be on tv every Christmas. I remember getting spooked by a series in the 70's called 'West Country Tales' anyone ever see that? I suppose that's a bit OT tho' :o
