What if?

You`ve missed the point by a mile

I was suggesting what qualities the stones had , not comparing what they did to the Beatles. I`m not suggesting the had more influence than the Beatles anybody with half a brain can see things pretty much started with them, I just think the Stones deserve some credit for what they did without 'oh the Beatles did this the Beatles did that' every 5 minutes.

Personally I'm one not to judge a persons maturity by internet message board posts, I don't know maybe i'm wrong.

Arguing with posters tounge and cheek comments screams maturity on your behalf also.

Now you done it, a bunch of elitist classic rock junkies will be coming your way, going crazy because you compared Nirvana to "Insert some band before 1979 here".

When I was a kid I would buy one 7" single a week. It's all I could afford.
I would play that piece of vinyl constantly and always go back to it.
When I bought an album with the sleeve notes etc, it became a prize possession.
Now all I have to do is download from a P2P and have anything I want.
A vast amount of my music exists on my hard drive (stuff I've got lately and the stuff I've ripped from my existing cd collection).
It's just not the same anymore.

Forget MTV...how has the internet affected music?
Better or worse?

I'm gonna let urban and boob boo battle out the beatles/stones thing and take this one. Of course they wouldn't have been as successful, I'd say about 90% of their success is because of their image, they've even admitted as much themselves. It's the same thing with black sabath. Yeah they put out some great music (even their worst stuff is much better than anything kiss could ever come up with), but much of their mass success was due to the whole prince of darkness image ozzy had going. It's actually a noticable trend in that time period, most likely influenced by the stones (yeah I said I wouldnt get them into it, but whatever). Rock banRAB at that time were all about the dirty, wild, outrageous "rock and roll" image.

The state of recorded music may have suffered had the Beatles not existed, however the state of music would be the same. I really don't think their influence is half as great as people say

Agreed. I think the Beatles are overrated. Do not get me wrong, I love the Beatles... but they are over-fu(king-rated, imo.

I heard The Wipers, good band, but its easy to take alway all of Nirvanas credit and give it to their influences, even when they clearly dont deserve it.

Lets give The Beatles no credit for the british invasian whatsoever, lets just give all the credit to Buddy Holly and The Everly Brothers...Those talentless teeny boppers dont deserve credit for anything.

God people piss me off.

I still stand by Green Day. They are still making good music. They got more commercial than some would like, they didnt "sell out" sicne that term is being thrown around so much. If the Sex Pistols did it, I think it would have been ****ing sweet though. Green Day did good, but Sex Pistols could've done better.

No, I was not aware of that. That is very interesting. I guess that blows my theory right out of the water. I got pwned, whatever that means. LOL.

That's actually a pretty cool piece of musical knowledge. I learn something just about every time I come into this place.

Excuse me, I need to go scrub the egg off my face before it dries. LOL.

I would heartily agree with this comment, anything sold half of a million copies in the moden age by any music style is good and well I used to bash them and mostly blindly until I head the live allbum, and well I won't bash them anymore.. They're far form my favorite but I don't hate them BLINDLY anymore like I used to.. Uusally the more critics/'normal' people hate a band or an artist that'll make me want to hear 'em een more and judge for myself..
They're far from my favorite, but the live effort gets a nod of respect from this 'hardened' and jaded music fanatic.

Splendid, good sir. Top notch. 'Ere I'll shout you a pint.

Are Japanese cars big in America Fenix, like more so then American made models?

The Beatles wrote let it be, the stones wrote let it bleed. But we have a beatles vs. stone thread....

For all the green day bashing out there, I used to not understand why Blink-182 didn't get bashed alot more. While Greenday moved away from their original sounRAB (albeit slowly), Blink-182 did an about face at dude ranch and only got worse from there.

What makes it easier to bash Greenday is that they were more successful, and the more a culture loves something, the more the counter-culture loves to be against it. Therefore, banRAB that really inspire adoration in a demographic (which can denote talent) is hated far more than banRAB who actually deserve it.

An interesting question that might make you mindless lemmings think for once is "what band is rated poorly, and deserves that rating" with nothing to 'rage against' I wonder how you might answer.
