What if?

No one likes Green Day because they're trying to do something they're not. Or at least they're trying to do it but they have no vindication. If the Ramones tried to do American Idiot, they would do it their way, and people would love it because it's the Ramones, it's what people come to expect from them. When Greenday did it, all I thought was man this is crap, it doesn't sound like Greenday. Probably didn't help when the DJ said it was the biggest song of the year eather.

Choosing a supercar, what do you pick: The purebred Ferarri or the no frills Mazda? Can Mazda even make supercars?

Point being, you recognise a band based on what it has done, what it is renowned for, what you can expect to gain from listening to them.

Greenday, by doing something new, took a risk. Frankly they ballsed up but if they continue with this new style I'm sure they can create a taste for it and maybe one day produce the next American Idiot, that everyone will like, based on what they've come to expect.

I`m not so sure thats true.

Had the Beatles not existed somebody else would have done.It could have been one band , it could have been several banRAB.It would be different , but i`m not so sure it would be worse.

I like to have a little fun with my internet sometimes, maybe I made a few threaRAB that were "off topic".

I am sorry for my incidents in the past and have clearly changed my ways for the good.

Jr.

To each his own, im a rap enthusiast myself.

I liked MTV up until the point when they stopped actualy having anything to do with music whatsoever, and when they actualy do play music its not worth it, because its garanteed to be shit.

I think downloading music online is great, because it does allow you to find a lot of great music that you cant find anywhere else, and a lot more indie banRAB have gotten popular in the past 6 years because of the internet, with little or no help from MTV or the radio.

I doubt a album like Kid A would have been so successful without the internet, because MTV and the radio stations wouldnt touch it, in fact, millions of copies of it were downloaded off Napster one week before its actual release, and yet it debuted at #1 in the UK charts and remained there for a week and it still managed to stay at #1 on the US charts for up to 8 weeks dispite NO official singles having been released...Thats pretty damn remarkable...Noel Gallagher said it best that the secret to the albums success was its total lack of promotion, and that the buzz it got on the internet alone gave it enough hype to become a chart topper, to everyones surprise.

It also proves that illegal downloading has miminal effect on how much a record will actualy sell in the long run.

I would prefer downloading my 7"s off the internet than buying one off eBay for 1000 dollars if i'm lucky enough to actually find it, see banRAB that produce 100 pressings of a single in the 70s then disappear don't tend to turn up on your doorstep, or your local record store in this case. In saying this I go down to the local record store every weekend and have a look around. So internet has affected music in a good way for me. Without it most of the obscure music I listen to I would never have.

better. now the music industry is more driven by the consumer. Of course it always has been to an extent, but before the internet existed, record companies chose what they wanted the public to hear, and unless you had a record deal, it was basically impossible to be successful. The internet changed all that, now anyone with access to the internet can find any band that puts their stuff out there, regardless of if they're represented by a label or not.
