What do you think about Eureka 7?

I think next week they are gonna be making repairs to the Gekko in some cave, after they leave there things start to really pick up. Renton grows up alot in the comming weeks.

I've heard that one said about an earlier episode.

I'm enjoying the series, its been done pretty well, however, I've just finished reading volume 2 of the manga and the manga has been moving along a lot faster than the series, and it now has me thinking "could it be better as say, a 26 episode series?" But the manga also seems to be pretty different than the anime, in the manga
you can tell that Eureka is undoubtedly inlove with Renton as he's inlove with her.
The fate of Renton's father is also revealed already and the Coralians were explained in an understandable manner. Then again, like I already said, the manga could be making its own story all together. But, whatever the case, I'm going to keep up on both the manga and the anime.

Pretty good show so far. Only problemme I have, however, is they way they pronounce Eureka's name. IT'S "YOO-REE-KA", NOT "ELRECKA"! (At least in one ep, they DO get it right.)

I really can't get into either it moves too slow and there is rarely in mechs I don't know maybe it'll get better

(what's with the pronunciation of Eureka, anyway?)

Guess they either goofed up while trying to pronouce "Eureka" or decided it would be cooler to pronounce it by the exact romanization to Japanese. To really sound like the 'real' way to pronouce "Eureka," it would have to be romanized as "Yuurika." Which doesn't seem like it would be "Eureka" at first glance.

I suspect that the show is geared toward a much younger audience.

I would think that it is geared toward the same demographic as that of Full Metal Alchemist.

I made it a point to monitor Holland on everything he does. He is perhaps the most troubled character in all of Eureka 7, and as you progress, you begin to understand why he acts the way he does and even sympathize with the times he snaps at various people in his crew (namely Renton).

Man this just confirms what I have been thinking for a long time. That the people at [as] have something against anime, at least the majority of them anyway. I mean putting all your new anime on saturdays, bad idea.

I'm not sure if this is the case, but I can be persuaded into thinking this.

There is one thing I noticed, and I'm sure other people must have noticed this:

Adult Swim promotes the hell out of its comedy offerings, not only its original programming but also its acquired products. Commercials for Season 2 of The Venture Brothers season premiere of 25 June 2006 were airing in March. Meanwhile, anime such as Kakurenbo had coomericals for it airing 2 weeks before its air date. For the Escaflowne movie, I didn't see commericals for it on Adult Swim until one week before its air date.

How does Adult Swim expect its ratings for anime to do better if it doesn't promote its Saturday night fare the same way it promotes its comedies? The time will come when Cowboy Bebop won't be enough to attract anime viewers to Adult Swim.

Also, which anime will take the baton from InuYasha when it ends its debut run within the next twelve months? It may still air during the weeknight time slots, but that still leaves Saturday night open.

If Adult Swim could divert five percent of the advertising dollars it uses for Tom Goes to the Mayor into its anime offerings, I'm sure the anime ratings would increase.

Last weekend
we saw the appearance of another Nirvash, the cradt called Type theEND
. I wasn't expecting that to happen until far later into the series. E7 is starting to feel more grounded and more conventional. More is
coming out about the pasts of members of the Gekko State, especially Holland and Eureka
.

I'm expecting E7 to get better, especially as more details reveal themselves to us.

I've been following this show since the first fansubs popped up a while back.

I definately don't see Eureka 7 as a Mecha-anime. Sure there are mecha, but the character interactions are much more important to the story than "ooo-big-flashy-mecha!". In that respect, it's sort of like Patlabor (which is a great collection of OVAs, Tv anime and movies).

I know for a fact that I love this anime because I care a lot about the main characters. I'm always rooting for Renton and almost cheered out loud when
Renton finally confessed his love to Eureka
and nearly punched my pc screen when
Holland kept picking on Renton

I'm actually quite surprised that Eureka 7 isn't doing so well on Adult Swim. I run an Eureka 7 fangroup on an anime forum and we saw a big increase in member applicants after E7 aired on Adult Swim. It's a real shame...

I think Eureka 7 is a show worth watching 'till the end. I've seen almost every episode shown on Adult Swim so far, and I have no intention of stopping, especially after the last episode that aired, which I thought did well in developing some of the characters and plot.

Seems like it'll be a worthwhile trip.

That being said, I must agree that they are playing their cards too close to their chests. Being too vague and secretive for too long can be a detriment to a series (see RahXephon), even a longer one.

Incidently, the director of the series (Tomoki Kyoda) is best known for his work on Eureka Seven and RahXephon. I wouldn't be surprised if it played out similarly. I haven't seen RahXephon though, so I don't know what to expect.

You could call that a flaw, but I think that E7's unusual pacing is one of the best aspects of the series.

I'd sure like to meet and then hit the asshat who insisted on having it pronounced "Elrecka".

I already mentioned this, but the reason for them pronouncing it that way is because there was already a magazine in Japan pronounced "you-ree-ka" and they didn't want to get into any copyright problems.

Eureka 7 is one of the most successful shows I've watched about a kid going through puberty and growing up to be an adult. Often I see way too much exaggeration about useless and trivial issues that a kid really doesn't grow much from anyway. But Renton goes through a lot of trials as a kid with a strong sense of morals, often finding out that there is no black and white in good and bad. Holland is also very realistic; he's stubborn, often immature, and he grows a lot while arguing with Renton.

I think the seiyuu for Renton was very appropriate. I actually found Kazuma Azuma's voice from Yakitate!! Japan to be really annoying. It was a nice change of voices from one series to a better series.

They pronounce it as in the original Japanese track, so its fine IMO.

Personally this series always amazes me at how accurately it manages to portray such a western culture, it truly never feels remotely Japanese and the whole reincarnated 70s-80s California surfer-skater lifestyle is very fun to observe.

I've been trying to get into the show but I'm having a hard time doing so. We're 7 episodes in (haven't watched ep. 7 yet), and so far I have no idea where it's going. Usually characters have some sort of destination or overall goal. Anyway I know the military has something up their sleeves to obtain the Nirvash, but the moments that appear to be what move the overall story along seem so separated from everything else that it's difficult for me to get an idea of what will happen. Then again, maybe there's something I completely missed.

I feel the same way. I want to know what they're doing, where they're going, something, anything. I feel as if nothing is being accomplished, aside from picking up Renton, we're just floating around aimlessly. Things are barely keeping my interest right now. I keep reading that it just starts out slow and it picks up later... well, just what episode number does it starts to pick up in? I just noticed it was a 50 episode series, so I'm not going to sit around forever here.

I don't mean to sound demanding or anything. It doesn't have to be fast action to entertain me, but I would just like some plot advancement. So far, all we have is
Renton's supposedly going to learn more about mechanics. Eureka seems to talk to machinery(?), 3 adopted children and is mostly still mysteriously unexplainable. An awkward relationship attempts to begin, mainly on Renton's half as Eureka seems oblivious. There's some dense military guys that seem to want Nirvash, but apparently not enough to actively pursue the Gekkostate for it.
I mean, these are all good points, when are they going to get around to exploring one (or more) of them?

I actually did not know this was a 50-episode series. That explains some of the pacing.

And despite my protestations, I'm pretty much bound to continue watching at this point. If I didn't, I'd always wonder what the answers were and it would drive me nuts.

But I had thought that we were halfway through the series right now on [as], so now that I know we're only a quarter of the way through, I'll try to just watch it with a more relaxed attitude.

And honestly, I love Johnny Yong Bosch for what he did as Vash, but I've been irritated by his voicing of Renton. Last week's episode, his voice seemed mellower, though. Not so annoying.

I agree. They also have a mild resemblance in
the parting of their hair. They both have that jagged part in the middle of their head.
But I think that might just be a coincidence.

Also, at the end of Episode 11 "Into the Nature"
when Renton and Eureka first encounter Anemone, Anemone says "hello my look-alike" or something like that.

i forced myself to watch all of it and I finished it yesterday. And honestly, most of it sucked. Renton whines way too much. I swear, the first 20 episodes are garbage. But, episodes from like 21-28, the last few episodes, and a few spots here and there makes it all worth while. The ending was great.

I would rate this anime a 7/10. Even though 80% of this anime sucks, the last 20% definitely worth watching but you would have to watch all of it to understand. So, it's a coin toss to watch this one. Do you want to sit through a 25 hour anime even though 20 hours of it is dull but has 5 hours of it that can contend with any anime?

Honestly, I can't understand what the main plot is on Eureka Seven yet. Every episode they show this guy with like long light blue-ish white-ish hair who was in a prison and they talk about weird explosions. I have absolutely no idea what's going on. Also they have these old people who sit around a huge green statue. I really hope that they can explain this in the next few episodes because it is way too confusing for me right now.

I'm giving it a chance, with the understanding that I'm admittedly not among the series' target audience. I like Renton alot (have to be impressed by a guy who isn't afraid to admit how close he is to his sister), and Eureka is growing on me too. Unfortunately, the rest of the cast isn't doing that much for me, and the show might lose me if the nonsense that went on for most of the last episode starts becoming habitual.

In ep. 7 I didn't get what was wrong with Holland. spoiler[He just came out punching Renten. And then Moon Doggy didn't do much of anything about it either. I just don't get it. All Renten and Moon Doggy wanted to do is ride the waves.]

I won't give away too much, but let's just say for now that
Renton gives Holland unwanted nostalgia
. Holland won't make much sense as a character until midway through when the series reveals that he is more than just an angry captain.

Then the background history of the Gekko State and crew is quite confusing aswell.

It will make sense in due time. It somehow is revealed in a pretty random way and in a pretty random place, but it makes sense and fills in a lot of storyline gaps.

I agree. It starts off really slow, but it's worth the wait in the end.

Its not really a mech show, it has some pretty cool battles but the enjoyment comes from the character interactions here. Also don't forget that its 50 episodes long, so don't expact much this early on, just trust all of those who have seen it and assure you that it is an awsome show.
