Unpopular Music Opinions

Exactly. And its violently evident that you're operating with your own agenda since Tom wasn't making a comment on how working sucks, just that its a severely unbalanced system in which a corporate oligarchy gets created.

He wouldn't mind working if people were rightly compensated and I think you can look at a simple issue like inflation increasing (in our country anyway) steadily since the 1970's but the federal minimum wage remaining the same creating a working poor with people working three jobs and still not making the bills.

You're also taking one line out of a RATM song and beating it to death, like the idiot who kept saying the Rolling Stones sold out because they wrote "Miss you." We get the point, and it may at some minor level have a valid point, but those lyrics could be fine in the context of the song. Even if their not, how about:

The sun ablaze as Maria's foot
Touches the surface of sand
On northern land
As human contraband
Some rico from Jalisco
Passed her name to the boss
She stuffed ten to a truck bed
She clutches her cross

No pissing and moaning. Their not pretending to be forced into drug smuggling to get into the country. Its an accurate portrayal of a situation that is all to common and created because of a lack of the free movement of people. its an issue and its a much better set of lyrics than:

I'm so ugly, but that's okay, 'cause so are you...
We've broken our mirrors
Sunday morning is everyday for all I care...
And I'm not scared
Light my candles in a daze...
'Cause I've found god - yeah, yeah, yeah

The majority of scene kiRAB who hype him only do it for the same reason they hype Kurt Cobain because he committed suicide. And indie fans typically have this opinion "either/or is his only good album, everything else hes one sucks". Just sayin' hes mainly overrated by his massive following of fanboys and girls such as me :)

And I like Pink Moon is a really good chill album, I havn't checked out his other stuff. Nick Drake took me a few listens to get into because I didn't like his voice at first. After going through a Belle And Sebastian phase I listene to Pink Moon and it kind of clicked.

Since were talking about folk artists who are overrated, Iron And Wine. I like him and all, well a couple songs but most of his stuff is just way too the same. I tried chilling to an album once and it got really repetitive after the first few songs.

And Sufjan Stevens, John Wayne Gacy Jr. is an okay song, but I can get into him at all and i've tried quite a few times. I don't get why people freak out over him, hes really dull.

I feel the nostalgia too. And I listen to indie pop music and 60s pop music but sometimes, I can't help it. I just want to listen to Ke$ha or even old Brittany Spears.......I am a heathen.

For a start it's acoustic folk. What are these "repeated riRAB" he is talking about that supposedly pervade their music? Most of the songs are not riff driven at all?

As for the lyrics, one should at least explain why they find them "horrible" if they are able to make such a comment.

My problem with Pink Moon is that it sounRAB like the guy made it lying on his bed, half asleep... And his singing is actually yawning.

And I don't like Sufjan Stevens either, he even said he dosen't own any of the instruments he plays on record, and it really shows, sad to say.

Is that the reason why? I always figured the songwriter lost the plot and decided to write catchy, but really impersonal shite instead of the great songs he used to write. The shift in quality from Pinkerton to Green is staggering. Green seemed so impersonal and contrived.

For real?!

I'm sorry, I didn't phrase that properly, I mean I'd lost faith in mainstream rock/pop/punk, because it all sounRAB the same. if someone gives me some new band and says "listen to this, they're good, I will. If someone gives me ANY band and says "listen to this" I'll listen to it at least once before I say whether it's good or horrible.

EDIT: sorry about the double post

I agree it really is the same category. I used to be ok with it, particularly in industrial music that I listened to in the early and mid 90s (much of it being recorded in the 80s), but it wasn't used quite in the same way. I still like some vocal effects here and there, distortion and what not, I just can't stand the way autotune is used in today's pop music. It's like I heard that shit in way cooler music long ago, I don't need crappy pop stars making it trendy and worse. It seemed like it had a purpose back then, especially in industrial music. It was to make the voices sound otherworldly, demonic, robotic, scary or what have you. It fit the music. Today's pop? Hey listen to this cool effect! I can make my voice sound weird, cool! I dunno man, I just don't like it. But I don't listen to that kind of pop music anyway, like I said I rarely hear it, so it doesn't really affect me.

Kurt Cobain was nothing but a self-indulgent, egotistical prick who shot himself leaving behind a wife and kiRAB. How a man as irritating as him got famous spewing out the mindless droning dribble that he did is the only thing that amazes me more than the fact that a prick like that doing himself in after injecting himself with stupid amounts of gear has become a poster boy for every whiney, snivelling, ungreatfull bad haired, attention seeking little fat kid on the god damn planet.

(I didn't even read the purpose of this thread but I've been dying to get that off my chest for a while now, and I finally got my opening)

You are just mad because your banRAB suck...

...I mean seriously anyone who comes to a forum, not knowing anyone, and then staying while calling everyone an elitist is a total douche.

Yeah, sorry about ruining that. I was just totally not in the mood.
