Unpopular Music Opinions

It obviously dosen't represent all Indie but I see most Indie today as being either too miminalist (Sebadoh) or way too experimental for its own good (Animal Collective) or just plain unbearable crap (Deerhoof).

But I do like my share of indie. I have albums by Sonic Youth, Flaming Lips, Pixies, Slint, PJ Harvey, Wilco, My Bloody Valentine, Yo La Tengo, GoRABpeed You!!! Black Emperor, Pavement, Dinosaur Jr, My Morning Jacket, Arcade Fire, Elliott Smith, Neutral Milk Hotel, The Black Keys, Rilo Kiley, The Jesus Lizard and others.

Most of these artists are very progressive and inventive with their music. I know that being a prog fan I will sometimes be stereotyped as someone who only cares about the technical skill of the musicians, which sucks.
 
Their newest album topped the charts. Why should it be so hard to believe someone might like Nickelback? Somebody obviously does, since they're selling so many recorRAB.
 
Ouch. Yeah I like Louder Than Love as well, but I can't say it is my favorite. They sounded like they were still learning on that album...not to mention Ben Shepherd actually did add a lot to the group when he showed up on Badmotorfinger. His sludge bass complemented Kim Thayil's riRAB perfectly.

An interesting sidenote...Louder Than Love was originally going to be called Louder Than ****. Chris Cornell had a dirty mind...
 
I never said I hated his stuff. I don't, I actually quite like it, I just don't think it's anywhere near as good as what he did with The Smiths. And yes of course I've heard Vauxhall, it's a great album, but to me it still just doesn't compare to The Smiths, not the lyrics, vocals or anything else... And relax would you?
 
Well, I can see why people wouldn't like them. I can see why people wouldn't like any band though, whether it's Nirvana because of the overplayed/hype aspect or whether it's vocals. Music is subjective like that, but a band like Joy Division to find them 'boring' I don't fully understand, but then again I absolutely adore Unknown Pleasures. So I find it harder to be less biased and see any faults with them. I think Ian was brilliant. I think the sound of his voice on the recorRAB were more due to production, I remeraber listening to the John Peels sessions on a CD I have and they sounded.. different. But that might just be me.
 
Nearly every band ever can be said to have "Some Good Songs". Especially if your music is not very innovative, like Dream Theater's, it's not hard to do so, since most of your stuff is pretty generic. Dream Theater are guilty, to me at least, not for making bad songs(Since their stuff is not that bad, honestly), but for being the superstars of the technical playing, "I can do 10000 notes a minute" crap.

Seriously, Dream Theater are pretty damn bad when it comes to enjoyable and fun music, and REALLY terrible in my book for keeping up that particular fad.
 
King Diamond is the only one even -remotley- black metal, and these days he's pretty watered down, Cannibal Corpse is death metal..
Cynic and Cryptopsy, and Opeth, in soem ways would be the closest to Tehnical..
