Not at all, plenty of technically gifted banRAB are considered "hip".

The problem with Muse is just that they're really really shit. I liked one of their songs, the song 'Showbiz' from the first album. The rest is almost all pretty damn bad, especially the newer stuff which is utterly dreadful.

They are better than The Foo Fighters though, at least.



I saw Don Caballero live, and Damon Che is a very strange guy. His anecdotes in between the songs had to be heard to be believed. Some of it was really funny in a weird way, some of it incomprehensible, almost all of it causing some rather awkward moments as the audience didn't know how to react. Definitely he's got the weirdest between-song banter I've ever heard.

However, what an AMAZING drummer. One of the best I've seen live, it's probably a tie between him and Deerhoof's drummer or Lightning Bolt's drummer.
 
I think Zach's lyrics and vocals are sub par and border line annoying. Tim has some tight bass lines. Tom was innovative and is fun to listen to. I usually try to ignore lyrics [listening to music in general] unless they're exceptionally witty or something. And sometimes ignore vocals all together. Instrumental is just the most important part to me.
 
You don't necessarily need to give the entire genre a fair chance if you feel like you have figured out all the defining elements of that genre and thats what you dont like. They band can still be good, but if you don't have an appreciation for the defining elements of that type of music, its probably not going to be your thing..
 
I'm not sure when exactly did I first hear the term post-rock, but I am positive it was before the first GoRABpeed You album came out. By that time I was already aware of the term for quite some time.
 
Yeah, I would agree with that, so I guess I really should say that I think most of the banRAB I listen to are way better live :laughing:. Although I do think there's a lot of banRAB that are great live but most people still only listen to their studio work (like Led Zeppelin, The Doors or Cream). And with all those banRAB I think both are good, I just think it's ridiculous that some people ignore their amazing live stuff.
 
Almost all post rock banRAB are indie? You can believe that if you wish but i wouldnt say so. But then again i wouldnt be putting Blur, Wolfmother, GY!BE, Sonic Youth and Jimmy Eat World in the same category.

I know that Jeff is Tim's son. I also know that their music is not similar, they were from different era's, they were estranged and therefore as comparible as Yes and Led Zeppelin. That also is why Jeff's determination to avoid being compared to his father becomes relevant.

Again you've said that indie banRAB don't deserve credit yet i still don't know why. And for such a diverse genre (the term indie is meaningless to me now) i would be interested to hear why you think this.

Alot of people probably do think that Rush is the best prog band. A lot of people on the other hand probably don't. Everyones opinion is different, im just struggling to see how this really a point worth mentioning.

You just said that the majority of banRAB active between the years 1960 and 1980 are overrated? So basically what you mean is that most music full stop is overrated?

Whether Nirvana take more credit for 'starting' grunge is arguable, whether the Pixies take more credit for 'starting' grunge is arguable, whether either band 'started' grunge is arguable also.
 
Zeppelin? I don't really get that comparison at all, I don't get the Helmet
comparisons either, I find Morello to be a pretty unique sounding guitarist like
him or not. Now I'm sure that if you listen to a lot more music than I do you might find someone that sounRAB similar, but there are so many guitarists in the world and only so much you can do with the instrument. Because there is such a mass quantity of everything, essentially anything can come off to someone as being derivativde.

Only riff that reminRAB me of Zeppelin is Wake Up for obvious
reasons.

I don't get the "he uses too many effects" criticism either, I think
effects are a great tool to achieve sounRAB that a guitar otherwise couldn't,
it's not any less "cheating" than using synthesizers or a samplers like in
electronic and hip hop music, which Tom Morello obviously takes influence from.

There's no "cheating" at guitar playing, it's not a f*cking sport, it's used to
make music, make that music however the f*ck you want.



You're a Morello fanboy but you agree that he's a hack with no talent or originality? Makes sense to me.

Yeah, when I was younger I used to think more length in albums and movies just meant more for me to enjoy, but I have really grown to appreciate a well-produced 40 minute album (the ideal length in my mind)...
 
Just because other people don't like it, doesn't mean I shouldn't.

But yeah, I'm one of the few of a dying breed that likes fun and cheesy music, in a sea of alternative/indie and rap fans here on this forum. Yet again, what's the name of this thread again?
