I don't know how unpopular it is to say these days, but I really hate guitar solos. There are only a few songs that actually benefit from lengthy solos. This includes Clapton and Hendrix alongside ELP, Yes, and the like.
Did you get out of the wrong side of bed today? OK you don't like him but this: In essence, fuck him and his helping hand. sounRAB like you are just trying to get a reaction for the sake of it. Quite a vociferous tirade even if it's a little tongue in cheek. You are a Pink Floyd fan? Case closed
I have noticed that knocking on peoples' taste doesn't really occur here, and that's a really great thing. I'd have been really uncomfortable posting if I thought I'd be crapped on for listening to mall indie.
Oh no I totally get that. And discussion is always great. But there's a difference between discussing opinions and claiming other people's opinions as incorrect (or invalid, false etc), when there is no such thing as an incorrect opinion.
I did not have the time to read through every page of this thread, sorry.
I don't really know why this album is hated so much. I always thought side 3 had the only weak spots on the entire album, tracks like Nobody Home, Vera Lynn and Bring the Boys Back Home are shlock that Roger should have saved for The Final Cut so they could be rightfully ignored.
But I can't think of any other low moments on the album. The first disc is excellent through and through and the crazy climaxes of side 4 (I confess to loving The Trial in all it's hammy glory) really redeems the meandering of side 3, though that side has Hey You and Comfortably Nurab at least.
Hard to explain but I still think it's a better album than Animals. I understand that people find the album too melancholy and rock opera-ish but you gotta admit that Roger ties the story and the mood with the music really damn well and the songwriting, musicianship, studio wizzardry, it's all still there. I love the album both for the music and for themes. It's a roller coaster ride of an album, I understand why people find it overbearing because you really feel wore out in the end, but I'm pretty sure that's what Roger was going for. I guess I'm more fond of these kinda "cinematic" concept albums than others.
it's all good hehe. it's more like how a lot of people consider a person's ability to play a hendrix song to mean crazy skill. the changes in the songs are usually pretty simple. his style on the other hand...
