Bob Dylan, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who and Led Zeppelin are overrated.
Take 'Em Away>Wagon Wheel
Mick Jaggers girlfrienRAB were hotter than Paul McCartneys.
John Zorn>Miles Davis
And I agree about wishing I got into this stuff much earlier. I think part of the problem was I didn't have any siblings or frienRAB who exposed me to a lot of music.
Joy Division blow New Order out of the water is another slight unpopular opinion of mine. Well, blowing out of the water may be a slight exaggeration. But Joy Division's sound, for me is in another league to New Order.
People that automatically assume that just because you don't like a lot of mainstream music you're only doing it to 'look cool' and it in no way has anything to do with the fact that some people might actually want to listen to something a bit different that isn't made to appeal to a mass market and the assumption that everybody should like something just because others like it.
I second this. At least I used to love them when I was a tween/teen; haven't listened to them in ages. But whenever I hear a song here and there, I get all nostalgic.
You asked about technical metal, which I assumed meant "any metal I consider to be somewhat technical" rather than "technical death metal", which I take it is what you actually meant, simple mix up.
If I was working a 12 hour day the last thing Id be thinking about wouyld be politics. Id be more concerned with enjoying the 4 hours before bed time.
Im working an 8 hour day as it is and thats enough to make me value my leisure time enough to not worry about politics.
Id just like to make it clear that Im not 100% against politics in entertainment. I think that Public Enemy in particular were coming from a real place were there were real problems and talked about them very effectively. Im just against spoilt kiRAB moaning about having to work for a living when everybody else has to do it.
Thats exactly what I said. He and they arent seriously opressed. Theyre complaining about nothing because they have nothing to complain about. When Jello Biafra sang "You'll work hard with a gun in your back for a bowl of rice a day" in the song "Holiday In Carabodia" he was taking the p*ss out of people who think like Tom Morello. I personally don't want to hear somebody complaining about having to go to work as if its the same thing as being f*cking coshed by the rozzers just for being black.
Maybe for some people but I think if you read some of the things that Cobain said about homophobia and sexism in society its plain to see that he did have a social conscience, maybe not to the point of worrying about the arms budget and wether buying a McDonald's meal was going to contribute to it but he was certainly concerned about things on an everyday human level.
i suddenly remerabered he had a kid yesterday aswell (what's her name, frances bean?), i agree to some extent but i wouldn't call it egotism, Cobain was introverted and a clinically depressed junkie. Still, he could've been worse:
