Unpopular Music Opinions

I'm well in agreement with you here. They've managed to sound different on each successive album and they still sound great even twenty years later. Transmissions from the Satellite Heart, ClouRAB Taste Metallic, Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, The Soft Bulletin are all amazing albums worth recognition.

I think that's something that is quite impossible to measure. For some prog aficionados, "good composition" may involve the clever structural juxtaposition of the various sections of a multi-part suite. For others, "good composition" might simply involve well thought-out arrangements and clever interplay between simultaneous lines. What about songs that consist of completely free jams and have no real structure at all (which is a whole style in itself)? Is that bad composition? The nuraber of ways in which such a facet could be measured are innumerable.

Suffice to say, from a talent standpoint I think it's unfair to compare any two types of music that don't even have the same aims to begin with. Prog is way better when it comes to the long multi-part suite, and so it should be, as that's not even the aim of most indie music genres. Conversely, indie pop is way better than prog when it comes to 3 minute ditties...which, it goes without saying, is certainly not the aim of prog.

Funny enough, that's how I feel about the non-Barlow Sebadoh tracks. ;) Lou's songs are the more serious ones, and are definitely not sh*tty for the sake of sh*ttiness.

It's decent. Just played "A Punchup at a Wedding" too and it's also decent. I'm just not a fan of HttT, personally. And it has nothing to do with it being less electronic than the previous two albums. I just don't like most of the songs, and the album overall feels weak. I'm not ruling out the possibility that it will grow on me over time, but each time I try, it just seems to drag.

I doubt I've ever said that. I've reccomended it and defended it.

And if you like it more, that's your choice, but I'd rather have something with more diversity than something that has one set list of rules or else it isn't tr00

*sigh* you obviously haven't actually listened to Korn, have you? Every single one of their albums was a progression, admitedly not all of it was good, and most people don't like it, but they have made some amazing music, and they are definately not just another studio band churning out the same songs over and over again.

I like 80's ballaRAB...

Like Surviver, OutfielRAB, Journey, Starship, and all those other banRAB that would fit this type of music.

I think maybe it's because they're my dad's favourites, but I'm pretty fond of them myself.

I think Sometimes is one of the most dragged out and milked songs on the album. I'm sure they woul like more indie music if they were exposed to some more.

I only said is probably the best though.

Tool are one of the worst banRAB in the existence of music.

Extreme metal is the future of technicality and expression. There are some that do it poorly, but the ones that get it right (Atheist, Element, Corpsefier, Cryptopsy) are unbeatable.

Led Zepplin are THE most overrated band in the history of music.

With the exception of 4-5 banRAB, everything that is 'real' Screamo and Emo sounRAB the exact same, says the exact same thing, and are simply propogating a genre of music that was designed to die out.

Punk died in the 80's.

Rock died in the early 90's

I have to back up BOC on this one. Music isn't all about your playing abilities, what's really important is your compositional abilities and creativity, which Aphex Twin certainly has in abundance. There's shedloaRAB of talent to be found in electronic music, and metal to some degree.
