Unpopular Music Opinions

I've never heard Discipline, but I will give it a listen. In its entirety, if you promise to wear a pink tank top with Boobalicious in big bold letters along the front with your hair in pig tails and then post pictures?

From a purely skill way. The things he was an innovator in weren't over the top guitar licks which he is often credited for. What he did do was came up with a tone that was pretty out there for it's time.

If anything they hype banRAB undeserving of as much attention, and turn people away from other good banRAB (because of bad reviews - not hip enough or something). They have a huge herd of sheep. But this is no different from any other mag, this one just happens to be one of the most well-known.

Agaetis is a good album and all, but Von is pretty and dreamy and arabient-ish. 'Tis nice.

Very possible. Certainly, I do not think prog in general is inaccessible at all, and your claims about melody may well be correct. But melody is not the aim of these banRAB. Many of Beethoven's contemporaries wrote much better minuets that he ever did, but that was because he was trying to do something else altogether. Similarly, these banRAB are trying to go beyond the banality of well tried-and-tested formats.

True that they are generally not instrumental virtuosi, but again, technical proficiency is not the aim and inventive/playful exploration is. And ultimately, I think "talent" is best kept as a measure of creative brilliance rather than technical prominence.

On the topic of Deerhoof though, I would like to strongly recommend you to listen to Friend Opportunity because melodically that album is unbelievable. Some of the best melody writing I've heard this half of the decade.

I though Ixnay was one of their best. With "I Choose," "Change The World," "Gone Away," "All I Want," and "Way Down The Line," it certainly wasn't weak in the good songs department.

(Way Down The Line is my favorite ORABpring song)
