Underage Nudity Being Shared On The Gnutella Network - Porn and Laws

Well see, what I'm confused about the most is how they showed up a year after he had downloaded it/deleted it. What if that files(s) was over written, or what if that hard drive had been replaced? Going after someone a year after something happens, without any other recent evidence, would seem a bit...outrages/unethical/dangerous on THEIR part. I'm just curious as to how they even got a warrant...If they went there and couldn't find anything in his possession, i don't believe they would have even been able to charge him with anything..however i have seen a case where someone really did get nabbed a year after they downloaded some(3 files), but they were sharing it and an officer downloaded it from them. However, they didnt threaten him with any jail time, or made him register as a sex offender. He just couldnt be around kids alone. They also found 16 other files on his computer after they confiscated it. And this is just my oppinion, but I'm thinking the only reason they went after him a year later was because he was still sharing those files..

reformatting does not write data to every sector, rather sets up a filesystem that the OS is able to see and sets all areas of the disc as being writable (i.e. as if there is no data whatsoever on the HDD, which for a reformat there's still plenty of organized 0's and 1's)...like the ancient, 4GB limited fat32, and the modern NTFS formats....

using the previously linked to Darin's Boot and Nuke program will overwrite the whole disc so that one can start over again cleanly...as cleanly as using a shiny fresh out of the box HDD...said drive might not last as long as a brand spanking new one (though with recent rumblings in the tech community this is very arguable), but it will be as clean as one!

and this information should really be applied anytime a user needs a new, clean start....'things' can reside on a HDD forever if not actively overwritten, and even then if its a real nasty bugger it will just move out of the way, as it were, as the writing heads approach it!
 
Are you that small peer? You have to ban dissent? Others here agree that honest replies work more than empty threats. Like Blackhorse and ukbobboy said education is king. If expressing an opinion that your tact is wrong headed is all it takes to get me banned then do so. I've said it before and I'll say it again - scaring a kid does far more harm than good. Its far better to tell the truth. Then when the truth really is scary they'll listen.

It's exactly the same as drug use. Tell them the truth and likely as not they'll leave it alone. The truth is scary enough all by itself.

That kid we disagreed about didn't need scaring. He was already scared. All he wanted was advise on how to get rid of the stuff he already didn't want.

If this opinion is so scary to you then I guess this will be my last post.

And it seems to do everything that you want, including scrubbing unused disk space.

I might download this utility myself.

I'm afraid its possible Remok. I downloaded what I thought was a cartoon and got one. You might say I should have used "Preview" but that wouldn't help. Why? Because now the preview and incomplete file are in there. Either you stop downloading images and videos or you are at some risk.

I came here to get help and was accosted by paragons of virtue like you. After listening to your rants I got my toothbrush figuering Johnny Law was turning onto my street about then. While waiting I did more research and found that even if I left it unerased the cops will need more information about who I am.

Here's a short list of situations I remember pedos being caught:

Being seen downloading onto a CD at a public library.
Bragging to other idiots at a bar.
Lured by adults into thinking they had a teen ready for sex and showed up.
Buying CP off a web site using a credit card.
Public nudity, kidnapping and inappropriate physical or verbal contact with a child.
Unrelated crimes that caused the law to invade a home with a sparked interest in the computer.

Its obvious you've got to get the authorities attention before coming under scrutiny and all you're doing is scaring law abiding decent young guys unnecessarily.

Peerless I don't think Obama has downloaded CP here. The guys you're addressing don't read the whole thread. They come here and you and guys like Remod scare them into a panic. If you repeated your qualifying remarks like you just made I'd have fewer objections.

It is possible that I will be hit by a bus. But I can't let that stop me from going to work. Nor should I let one overwritten file push me into physically destroying my hard drive. I hope thats an appropriate analogy.

I'll be here from now on the same way you are and will try to moderate the shrill bombastic chest beaters like Rebok who inform 14 year old kids their life is effectively ruined now that they've peeked at the forbidden. They are the same type of people who 100 years ago told kids they were going to go blind if they masturbated.

As my first and probably only post on this board about this, I can tell you it happens. I was looking on Kazaa back in 2002 for a song called, "Young". It was by Kenny Chesney, but at the time it was so new I wasn't sure of the artist. I type in "young". I ended up getting a few dozen illegal images. I tried deleting them, but the gov't was able to pull them back up.

I got out of prison in Feb of 06, after doing a 27 month (22 months served) sentence. I had to do my last month in protective custody, as someone found out what I was in there for and wanted to hurt me. This happened so long ago, child porn on p2p networks was almost unheard of, so nobody really believed me when I said how I got it. Now it's common knowledge.

All I can say is go buy an effing CD and be done with it.
 
It is good to see that there is at least one other person around here who is trying to tell people about these two fundamental errors commited by most developers. The two default settings mentioned are one of the biggest problems affecting all users and the Gnutella Network.

Allowing the sharing of downloads and partial files, by default, is a disaster for all of us and should be considered as the definition of irresponsible file-sharing.
 
Ok guys lets face it Child Porn is DEFINITELY illegal no doubt. But When your 15 like I am... Your hormones kick in... And looking at adult porn is kinda just wrong...Basically how you adult people think that child porn is wrong. When your a kid like me, you don't think like that... You Just Don't. I Too have downloaded child porn from lime wire... But this happen about a year ago i was searching for "regular porn" But came across something different which got me addicted. Ok Lets think of something..... a 12 year old girl... being watched by a 15 year old isent as bad as some 65 year old watching it. Minors watching Minors should be legal...Because once again when your 15..watching a girl who is 25 is just sick!!! Just like you parents think watching minors is sick..... I have friends that are addicted to it too...Its really sadd. And Just think of it...A minor going to jail for looking at minor porn??? that makes no sense.

I'm an eighteen year old who recently committed a horrible atrocity.

A few evenings ago I curiously and impulsively "downloaded" a couple files of illegal pornography. I placed the verb inside quotations because:

I never finished the downloads

Why? I realized I was idiotic for even contemplating such absurdities.

Now, before you judge me...as I hope none of such will be done.

First, it was impulsive, reckless, self-destructive behavior. It was a "spur of the moment holy ****" "Why the hell did I do that" moment.

Secondly, there was absolutely no malicious intent. Why would I care about such material, anyway? It is disgusting after all. More so, I had no intention of exploiting, providing or in any manner even needing said child pornography. I do not have Limewire configured to allow uploads. Midway through the downloads I quit the downloads. I then used Spybot's shredder tool to "destroy" the files. I have also defragged my laptop five times now.

I'm beyond paranoid...more so though, I'm completely devastated by guilt and shame. I had no cruel intentions, but the mere fact that I did it without even viewing the files, is disturbing. I am not some psychologically disturbed, disgruntled or perverse human - I was curious...but curiosity was a tragedy.

I don't know what to expect. I have no idea if I was traced and I'm being investigated. I cleaned the files and it's not like I ever intend to do anything malicious again. I further deleted all the pornographic material I did possess, to "clean myself"

Does anyone know:
What are the odds that a mishap like this could have been traced?

Further, how long would it take for police to show up at my doorstep?


Please, I'm scared. I'm just a college student who has dreams and hopes in life. The guilt is tearing me apart as it is. I'm paranoid beyond belief. Every time a car drives down my street I gaze out the window in hopes it's not a police officer coming to arrest me.

This would ruin my life...everything I have and am would be obliterated because of a careless, stupid and reckless mistake

My great reputation with community members, my education, my personal life, my time...would all vaporize before my eyes.

And I have a deathly fear of incarceration and prison.

If the police were to come to my house...would there be any hope of apologizing, talking about it with them and trying to make them understand that I am human and I have made this mistake?

Also, there is a police officer in the town I live in, whose family and he are good friends with cousins of mine who live in my town. The officer's son is best friend's with one of my cousins, actually. I'm on decent terms with the officer and his wife - (his wife has employment at the high school I attended, so I'd speak with her a lot). Should I maybe talk to them and confess and cry hysterically and hope things work out...

I'm paranoid because of a dumb action...I don't want this to ruin my life.

they can't be downloaded right, even if there are search results with KP vids they dont start downloading! so there's no problem at all!
i also possess a got damn KP vid, i downloaded a [edit] and its a got damn kiddy PPPPPPRRRN!!!!! :mad:
and now i cant download any vid that has a [edit] results!
