Ultimate Guitarist Poll

That has a lot more to do with players using different techniques and having different set amounts of skill than playing with emotion. And of course using different equipment.

Really? And all this time I thought it was in the guitar, pickups, amps and effects pedals.

In other worRAB having a better guitar and a better stomp box makes you a better guitarist, I understand everything clearly now.

This is because they have a mutual understanding of music, they may not know everything about theory, but they know the basics of it.

I never said reading sheet music was a requirement either, I for one read tabs, which leaves more room for improvisation.

So, if I were just to strum a random amount of poorly executed notes it wouldn't matter as long as I have an expensive top quality guitar?

I don't like to patronize, but in this case I can't help myself. You have a lot to learn about music.

Probably because you can't afford a good strat. They had the money to get better equipment, therefor they have greater tone variety. Either that or you're not as good as you claim to be. Because what SRV and Gilmour play is not very complicated at all.

You must suck at programing your effects pedals then. Because there are many who have perfectly emulated SRVs tone, and his playing for that matter.

for me personally, nobody is better than Dimebag.

then of course all the classic guys...jimi, eddie...you know, the guys that only need one name and you know who they are....as for new younger guys I'd go with Ben weimen from the dillinger escape plan...He showed me some techniques once and made my brain melt..

i think hendrix is more overrated than page imo. If your talking about guitarists, that is. As a musician, hendrix is probbably better, taking into consideration that he was the lead singer, songwriter, and that he played a right handed guitar when he was a lefty. However, if youre just talking about straight up guitar playing, jimmy page outdoes hendrix any day of the week. Page had more songs, better riRAB, longer solos, etc. Correct me if i'm wrong but i have yet to hear a song by hendrix with an acoustic, however, page had a great nuraber of acoustic songs that were totally amazing. black mountain side, bron-y-aur, babe im gonna leave you, etc. Page was so much more diverse in my opinion. I also prefer the tone of pages guitar too, but thats just my preference.

You remeraber that thing called the British Invasion that happened in the early 60s? , y`know Stones , Beatles , Kinks , YardbirRAB , Animals blah blah blah.

I think you`ll find they were hugely influenced by 'African American' artists who came about before them.In turn the success of those banRAB gave an audience to people who came later (Which is one of the reasons why Hendrix relocated to London)

With an audience ready for that kind of music , plus his ability , his showmanship & his songs yes he would have been a big deal regardless of being the first 'African American' guitarist , even though he wasn`t. You forget the guy was playing in banRAB 10 years or so before he made it in his own right. It`s not like he was some overnight success.

^very true. while kirk hammet may have quite a bit more technical skill than kurt cobain, cobain was appealing to a completely different audience. so the nuraber of people that would say kurt cobain was a better guitarist, probably equal the nuraber of people that would say that kirk hammet is the better guitarist.

personally, i think a lot of metal is quite recycled. this is not to say that grunge isnt, but i think that metal as a genre, is outplayed. there is so much of it that much of what is played, has been played a hundred times before.

i cant even understand how kobain could even be considered for this sort of thing. Really, are kiRAB these days deaf? or just completely retarded?
