Transformers 2

Spot on. Saw this yesterday and loved it. Had all of the above. Basically same as the first one but longer, louder and with more robots :D

Its not going to win any oscars and when they are never going to stick strictly to the comic books as some things wouldn't convert.

People who expect oscar winning performances from the actors and moaning about plot-lines, etc need to get a grip in my opinion.

Pop corn films are fine.... In fact, bring it on... I love Independence Day... I love most of the superhero comic book films... Heck I loved Mama mia:eek:!!!!!!!!!!!

But Transformers is just puerile cack... It is just one huge product placement for the toys... It doesn't even attempt to have a narrative... You can barely see the action, its badly directed.... And hence it doesn't so much bring you on a enjoyable ride, but throws you in a vibrating rubbish heap, shakes you around a bit and spits you out... It's just crap. And my feeling is that the box office takings for this film will be lower than the first one, because I think people have woken up to the fact that these films are rubbish and that Michael Bay should be sent off to play with explosives in Iraq.

And on the point about sequels.... Some sequels are better than the original.... Take the Harry Potter films for example... The first two movies were rubbish... But from the third one onwarRAB, they got better. So you can't always judge a sequel based on the film that preceded it. Sometimes it is only fair to give some films a chance.... And Transformers blew it. Star Trek is a better film... it has the right mix of action sequences and narrative to bring you along on an epic ride. This one just hurts your ears.

You talking about SkiRAB in TF2? That was Tom Kenny. He's not exactly black.

Incidentally, he also voices this guy.

Woo!

Ahem....

Not sure phrases like "pop a cap in yo ass" really fit the "hillbilly" stereotype. ;) It's obvious where they were going with it - the question as to whether it's negative racial stereotyping, or just a bit crap is what's at issue here.

Racism (or not aside), it's still a turkey of a sequel.

I think you missed my point - which maybe I didn't make it clear enough - the plot in this was the same as the first film.

The film does have a plot, yet.

But in this case it was flabby and meandering.

Did we need the parents to return?

No. They weren't particularly funny and their relationships with each other and Sam were pretty non-existant.

Did Megan Fox need to return?

Sure, she's eye-candy. But she didn't really add anything to the film.

Those are just a couple of examples - there are more.

Then there's the way the plot artificially extenRAB itself.

I didn't mind the film for the first hour and a half or so, but the stuff in the desert just dragged and dragged - and it was artificially extended.

Why, for example, did Bumblebee and The Twins leave Sam to run on foot for four miles through the desert?

I know there was something about 'a diversion', but Bumblebee could have got Sam to Prime in a couple of minutes.

Instead, no. He has to have the dull hide and seek through desert ruins.

I could go on about character development, but that does seem pointless in a Bay film.

But I didn't feel engaged with any of the characters at all.

Then there's the final battle sequence that makes very little sense.

For example, we see the US tanks arrive in an amphibious assault.

Then, they're alongside the Autobots fighting the Decepticons?

Eh?

They're tanks. They move relatively slowly. But they just turn up?

Plus there's a severe lack of Transformers in the film - which is odd given the title.

Why do the Autobots spend most of their time in vehicle mode on planes or in garages?

Granted, we get a bit more of the 'Cons than before, but aside from Prime (who spenRAB half the film dead), Bumblebee and the bloody awful Twins - that's about it.

It's such a mess of a film and I really, really wanted to like it.

Oh well.

My 7 year old is giving me ear ache with the constant requests to take him & see the film.

The 12A certificate worries me as it seems have a very broad range. He watches Primeval which is a 12 on DVD & has seen the new Indy & Hulk films which are 12A. But there is no way I would let my nipper see the new Batman...same certificate as the others but far more violence.

So what do I do ?

I'm not sure if you know this, but there are theaters in "Appalachia" and "The Ozarks of American", and those areas include actual cities and universities where people aren't always inbred, knuckle-dragging idiots. They have movie reviews, local papers and modes of public transportation. It's crazy. It'd blow your mind.

-sigh-

Going to see this tonight, going to try and ignore all reviews or spoilers and just (for once) go without any prior knowledge and take the film as I see it there and then. Should be interesting as I only really dipped in and out of the first movie on DVD but the parts I did see of it were quite good....

I never saw the first film, robots smashing each other just ain't my thing, but I didn't have anything else to do so I went to see this. I went in not really expecting to enjoy it but hoping it would surprise me. I went in to Star Trek and The Hangover with the same frame of mind and I enjoyed those. But this? I jsut wanted it to end!

Saw it at a midnight screening last night (absolutely packed btw), i really enjoyed it! the plot is paper thin and the characters could have been a bit better written, but the film was never going to have a Shakespearean level of storytelling, it does exactly what it says on the tin: big robots spectacularly smacking the shit out of each other around the world. Although i've got to admit that Bay's handling of the action scenes, while better than in Transformers 1, kind of reminded me of Robin Williams's Golf speech in his standup:

"So we get to watch Robots beating each other up? F*CK NO!! We're gonna put shit in the way! Like trees, and pillars and buildings!". lol.

The special effects were amazing, especially on the giant hoover thing in the desert, and as a heterosexual male i loved the slow motion shots of Ms Fox running toward the camera, lol.

Overall, i'd say it was just as good as the first film, and if you liked the first film then you'll like this. Likewise though, if you didn't like the first film then i can't see this converting you, in the end it is basically just more of the same, but bigger :)

Well I am 39 and took my 7 year old son and we both loved it, big loud exciting, yeah it's not Shakespeare people but this is Transformers !!! It really delivered for me and I didn't even think Megan was wooden but then maybe it's because she looked so hot !!!!

Grand Dizzy, i can see what you are getting at with the "unnatural" thing but i think the tanned skin colour is exaggerated in these films, as is most of the excessive make up that her character seems to wear, just take a look at these pictures:

And i'm not just posting the second picture because she is semi-naked :p

I have to admit that she definitely looks better when she's not in the movies, but even so the last thing i'd ever describe her as would be "ugly". I respect your opinion though.

OK, thanks for that CJ.

She does look quite a bit better in those other photos. Still too tanned for my tastes though, and the hair is a mess. She might look quite nice if you got a pair of scissors and chopped all that mess off the bottom of her hair. Even in those photos her hair just looks too long and scraggly, like all different lengths, like a scruffy hippie man

That FAQ was awesome, lol. And even though I enjoyed the movie and went to see it twice, I actually agreed with the FAQ and the points it raised. But I believe the racism thing is to do with the stereotyping of Mudflap and SkiRAB. Seems to me that 2 robots talking in ebonics is bad, but having an evil German speaking doctor robot or a cranky, grumpl old aged Englishman sounding robot is ok? lol:p

Back on the subject of the blame game, I don't blame Bay. He is IMO a shit director (and not a fan of the franchise) and I wouldn't expect anything less from him, however Steven Spielberg, Executive Producer, who is supposed to be a TF fan (see TF1 DVD) should shoulder more of the blame IMO.

TBH the only medium that has ever got the Transformers right was always the comics, even the G1 cartoon series was atrocious, tacky and cheesy.
