Top-50 All-time (Rough Draft)

This list is shit. I almost stopped reading when I saw that 1 and 2 were Led Zeppelin and the Beatles, then I saw that someone had the audacity to rate the king of rock and roll at #23.

Get Bent Fuck Eyes, you might just be qualified for an internship at Rolling Stone

So 'Duane Allman had a small influence on rock guitar players' and Eric B and Rakim influenced nearly the entire genre of Alternative hip hop along with KRS-One and A Tribe Called Quest. And what do you mean which genre is more significant? Alt Rap music has only been around for about 20 years, as opposed to rock music which is nearly 60 years old. You don't think that the rap movement will become one of the most significant events in music history? It already has become that, along with rock music in the late 40s and 50s, pop-rock in the 60s, punk in the 70s, hair metal/stadium rock on the 80s, and undoubtedly, the most important musical movement of the 90s was the rap movement. The Allman Brothers Band were a footnote, Eric B and Rakim along with the Native Tounge Collective influenced an entire genre. They were pioneers.

get high:

The stuff I like from today is represented like Weezer and Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, Mos Def, System, Incubus Tool etc. How are those forced they are by no means staples of these type of lists.

I'm not just talking about Christgau. In general RATM are more critically accepted. Just look up a whole bunch of critics lists and see how many more lists RATM make than KC.

MHDTV:

Green Day- Has been a relevant headline act for over 10 years. Five Huge selling albums, two Grammy winners, and a top notch live act on the scale of the Who. To me a no-brainer for the top 50 and maybe the best, most successful band of the decade.

Jack Johnson- A personal favorite and admittedly out of place, however I think longevity could eventually put him on a James Taylor type level which would make him a candidate.

311- They have eight excellent albums and have steadily gained popularity for 15 years. Their concerts are outstanding and their fans are extremely loyal to a deadheadesque level. My personal taste elevates them to a sure thing on my list.

Nirvana- The face of Grunge music. "Teen spirit" is the anthem for flannel 90's rock. I can't remeraber a top 50 list without them.

Green Day: Not exactly great musicians, and many of their songs sound the same. I find Nirvana to be pretty bland overall. Definetaly top 100, but 14th? I guess you already explained JJ. 311 is a good band but I just feel like I've heard it before. I really don't like the sub-electronica side of their music.

Agreed on Boyd, his vocals on Fungus Amongus was very Mike Patton-ish, but over time his vocals have gotten more original. A very underrated singer overall.

I wouldn't call Vedder a great vocalist though, but he does his own thing which you gotta respect.

Whenever I sing along to Pearl Jam I immitate his voice, which usually causes my grandmother to look at me like I'm retarded.

Its argubale depending on the kind of list. If we're talking about all genres than I don't think they are top ten worthy.

But if we're just talking rock well even then its still arguble. Though Zeps massive influence and impact is enough to earn them a spot in the top 20/25 at least. These artists should be above them.

The Beatles
Elvis Presley
The Rolling Stones (as much as it f*cking pains me to say it)
Bob Dylan
Jimi Hendrix
James Brown
Ray Charles
Little Richard
Chuck Berry
Beach Boys
Bob Marley (depending on weither you consider Reggae rock music)
Aretha Franklin
Jerry Lee Lewis

And weither these should be above Zep is at least debatable.

The Who
Velvet Underground
Stevie Wonder
Buddy Holly
Bo Diddley
Fats Domino

The 90's was when rap became less exciting, in the 80's when sampling was public domain hip-hop was far more exciting and innovative

My 2 cents for what it's worth

not to point the finger at anyone, but honestly saying "lol no" to a different musical opinion is what sparked this, and that wasn't started by MHDTV.

But i totally agree with you about the rest. Music is too ****ing subjective to make a list, especially as one as small as the top 100 or 50. It would have to be far larger to be even semi-accurate

Lists are boring , Do I really need someone else telling me Led Zeppelin are the best band in the world ?

If you want to make this list interesting then at least add an explanation to every nuraber saying why each band is where they are. At least put up something to debate rather than just writing down a load of banRAB.
