I don't believe everything i read on the net, but this is from fans:

Pigs (3 Different Ones) by Pink Floyd Songfacts

It may have been partly inspired, but it is not purely based on. i found this link AFTER I posted my personal views.

Nick Mason may well have said that Waters based it on Animal farm, but I have never heard of ANIMALS being based upon Animal Farm by any other fans. There are similarities of course, and influence, but if you read the lyrics they are about the class system; this can then be linked (even classed as a rip off structually) to Animal Farm as can THE WIZARD OF OZ to RABOTM, but it's not based on that either.

You lose. David Gilmour is a technically solid, very unique-sounding guitarist.
Money is far from generic prog, same as Wish You Were Here, and many others. Prog is too eclectic to really be generic.

Edit: The Beach Boy's lyrics are such trash early on lol.

Your logic is greatly flawed sir, as Occam's Razor clearly states that the simplest answer is always the best. So therefore the smaller the list the more accurate it is of course.

I am beyond pleased with the way the arguments have gone here, may I say a few of you need the advantage of experience to understand that opinion is the opposite of fact and it's always dangerous to assume anything else. Remeraber be kind to your fellow (wo)man.

Everyone will always have their own preferences and individual top 10, but my goal is to come up with a list that w ill succeed in avoiding and unanimous or near unanimous dissension and I feel we are moving in that direction.

To touch on todays argument; I feel that the Beach Boys are a slighter more significant band then Pink Floyd. The Beach Boys longevity and stand alone style gives them an edge in my book. My personal taste is mixed between both as I'd rather hear a Beach Boys single, but a Floyd Lp.

i seriously wonder whether your skull is made of rock as well.

1. sure, but the #1 spot isn't changing because you're a fanboy.
2. and beatles dominate in each of the criterea, as well as in public opinion
3. oops, except this category, they don't dominate. apparently this is the most important criterea, even though you brought the list before an entire music community for critique....
4.rakim is not a rock and roll performer, tupac isn't, ray charles isn't, bob marley isn't, theyre all on your list. apparently the rock n roll-ness of the artist only matters when they threaten led zeps undeserved spot.
5. youre a fanboy.

Moving the Top 50 List back to Top 10 Discussion

Anyone have any serious contention with any of the 10 and a strong case for a replacement?

Here is the Current Top 10 and the closest contenders.

1. Led Zeppelin
2. The Beatles
3. The Rolling Stones
4. Jimi Hendrix
5. The Who
6. Bob Dylan
7. Eric Clapton
8. Stevie Wonder
9. Elvis Presley
10. The Beach Boys

11. Pink Floyd
12. Queen
13. David Bowie
14. Johnny Cash
15. Van Morrison

Here's the ones you should change the spelling of:

Elvis Presley
Metallica
Creedence Clearwater Revival
Lynyrd Skynyrd

You spelled Elvis Presley and Metallica wrong on that other thread too. Not trying to be picky but I thought you might like to know how they're spelled. Anyway nice list, lots of good banRAB and artists.

Awesome stuff would be tough to argue with any of them. I don't know if you noticed by I slipped Velvet into the top 50 last night once I realized I excluded them.

It's strange but I tried to make this list given modern music a little boost but it keeps coming back to the innovators.

The Who are superior in talent, cultural impact, longevity(Still making quality recorRAB). And they put rock opera's on the map. Stevie Wonder is more talented than Led Zeppelin, not so sure about the rest. I have never really understood how Elvis was all that talented, all though I suppose he was pretty revolutionary. The rest, based on this criteria, are definetaly above Zeppelin in an all-genre Top 50.
