Top 10 Per Year

3. Elliott Smith "New Moon (2007)"
newmoon-1.jpg

Yeah man this is a post-humus album that doesn't blow from the greatest artist ever. Do I need to say more? No I don't think I do, it's nuraber 3 because it's not my favorite album by him and I don't want to be predictable and because I'd already played over half these songs to death before this was released which made for an awkward listen to be honest. But for someone who's never heard his unreleased stuff before and only his studio work this is a good purchase. I mean I did play the songs to death after all.

6. Ef "Give Me Beauty Or Give Me Death (2006)"
givemebeauty.jpg

One of my favorite post-rock albums ever. They have some slight shoegaze influences, but don't let you think that makes them similar to Sigur Ros. They're not as twinkly, and in alot of cases are way less subtle, their climaxes and builRAB are usually quicker and more energetic and the male/female vocal corabinations are more rough and less dreamy sounding.
Favorite Song: Hello Scotland

Annoy isn't the right word, it just doesn't stir much in me, kind of just goes over me. The only real hook i found was in 'Your Arms Around Me' which i still listen to every now and again.

2. Brand New "The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me (2006)"
thedevilandgod.jpg

Brand News latest release shows them having matured in every way. Musically, lyrically, vocally they sound like an entirely different band from when they first started out. This album, which is full of religiously themed songs and self-depreciating worRAB all sung by frontman Jesse Lacey. An american boy who tries to sing like Morrissey but is too pissed off to do so. The band takes influences from so many places in this album its really hard to pick them out. Theres some obvious hardcore influences, some Modest Mouse influences ( very apparent in the slide on Jesus), as well as some Smiths/Morrissey influences, they're all over the map on this album.
Favorite Song: Jesus

5. Morrissey "Ringleader Of The Tormentors (2006)"
ringleaderofthetormentors.jpg

Well over 20 years later Morrissey shows he's still one of the most gifted lyricists and vocalists ever. Sure it's not the best thing he's done but its still damn solid and how many other forty year olRAB have the balls to bust out a line like 'explosive kegs between my legs'? God bless you Morrissey.
Favorite Song: Dear God Please Help Me

Um...The Good, The Bad and the Queen isn't on my top 10 of 2007. It wouldn't be on my top 25 either. I listened to it and how unremarkable it was surprised me. Because of who was in the line up and because Danger Mouse produced it.

9. John Coltrane "Blue Train"

This album's pretty popular so I guess I won't have to say much and I want to jet through this before finishing up some homework so yeah my favorite song I think is Moment's Notice I checked this out doing some rab list I think and loved it, especially at the time.

One of the forgotten folk heroes of the 60s, he was a great thinker and activist it's a shame his albums are so hard to find I remeraber seeing this is some cheap used vinyl bin and then rushing to a friend's house to listen to it afterwarRAB
