Top 10 Per Year

10. Guillemots "Through the Windowpane (2006)"
throughthewindowpane.jpg

WorRAB like original, creative, diverse, etc all come to mind when I think of this album and while the Guillemots are prone to pretension they still create wonderfully dynamic music. From the gentle coyness of Made Up Love Song #43, to the funness of Trains to Brazil, to the epicness of S

Kind of Blue is so cliched as a Miles Davis album. I prefer Miles Smiles, Sketches of Spain, etc. If hipsters listened to jazz, that's what they would pick, anyways. That or Birth of the Cool. Groan.

7. Eluvium "Copia (2007)"

I could go on about the choruses of strings, brass, organs and the amazing arabiance, and how delicate and amazing the neo-classical arrangements are and be like every other reviewer who reviewed this album going on about the compositional genius but instead I'm going to tell you this is probably one of the most relaxing and beautiful albums I've ever heard. Songs like Radio Ballet are breathtaking.

10. Bright Eyes "Digital Ash in a Digital Urn (2005)

Probably one of the few original things Bright Eyes has ever done and thats mostly thanks to Mike Mogis's abilities to work electronics in around Conor Oberst's sparse folk songs to create folktronica album in a way that's very different from other artists who have attempted it before. Conor also shows that meth addicts can result in some crazy ass poetry too.

3. The Elected "Sun, Sun, Sun (2006)"

Damn Blake Sennett knows how to make music. Hes proven to be a versatile guitarist in Rilo Kiley but with this second Elected album he veers away from the Elliott Smith-esque indie-folk sprinkled with electronics he had before to dive into a Beach Boys and Elliott Smith influenced corabination of folk, country and pop that works so incredibly I wish he'd just ditch Rilo Kiley and stick with the Elected instead.

im going to love seeing you try to put 6 albums better than In Rainbows for 2007.

The Good The Bad and the Queen - listen to this album, i will eat my shirt if it doesn't make your top 10. It is by a band with the same name, a supergroup made up of the bassist from The Clash, the guitarist from The Verve, Singer from Blur/Gorillaz, and the drummer from Mali Music.
