I remember hearing somewhere that Cowboy Bebop wasn't orginally 26 episodes and that it actually stopped around episode 13 or something, but they decided to continue and hence the "2nd season" (episodes 14-26).
It was originally intended to be 26 episodes, but only about 12 or 13 of those actually selectively aired when it ran on TV. For example, the first TV episode was "Stray Dog Strut" (what we know as the second episode) instead of "Asteroid Blues."
1. Macross Plus - I've been a long-time fan of Macross since the original series, but the 1994 OAV series got me completely hooked. Just about everything here made it a winner: excellent mix of 2D and 3D animation, awesome mecha designs, cutting-edge camera angles, and an outstanding orchestral score by Yoko Kanno. Macross Plus is also where I got my username from.
2. Gunbuster - Before seeing Macross Plus, I was introduced to this 1988-89 OAV series. Never mind that it was a parody anime; behind all of the otaku influences is a great sci-fi storyline and near-realistic drama that puts a tear to anyone's eyes. To this day, I rank this as GAINAX's best work ever (miles above Neon Genesis Evangelion).
3. Figure 17 - When I first rented this anime, I was expecting it to be average. I was dead wrong. Figure 17 isn't just about a struggle to protect Earth from an unpredictable alien race; it's about a young girl's struggle to cope with everyday life and how her new "twin sister" helps her through it all. That plus great animation and an excellent soundtrack make this one a winner.
4. Cowboy Bebop - Non-stop action, tongue-in-cheek comedy, jazz music. What more can you ask for?
5. Azumanga Daioh - Who would've thought an anime about school life could be so much fun?
6. RahXephon - It's the anime that succeeds where Evangelion fails.
7. Grave of the Fireflies - One of the most realistic anime titles ever produced.
8. The Dagger of Kamui - Even Ninja Scroll can't compare to this martial arts classic.
9. Heat Guy J - Like Cowboy Bebop, it redefines 'cool' in the action/sci-fi genre.
10. AKIRA - The first anime that made me take anime seriously.
A7's Bottom 5 Anime
1. Ninja Resurrection - Never mind that ADV misled everyone into thinking it was the sequel to Ninja Scroll. It reeks of a horrible story and cheap artwork. The lack of an ending puts the final nail on its coffin.
2. Sword For Truth - The whole anime just makes no sense at all.
3. Candidate for Goddess - Weak storyline and even weaker CG animation led to its demise on Japanese TV without an ending. Even the OAV episode leaves a bad taste in the mouth.
4. Half of Central Park Media's Anime Catalog - Including M.D. Geist, Dog Soldier: Shadows of the Past and Voltage Fighter Gowcaizer
5. Samurai Shodown: The Motion Picture - The biggest anime insult to a videogame franchise.
What are your 10 Favorite and 5 least favorite animes?
Ok, I like this topic. I'll try to make another post like Joon's.
Top 5 favourite anime
(Please remember that this list is how I think in the last months. Obviously, within a few months/years I can easily change my preferences)
1.- Twelve Kingdoms
First time I saw it announced, I had never heard about it. But, the first chapter I saw (which was almost up to 20th), got me interested in this anime. Why? Because the whole atmosphere of ancient China, mixed with those magical elements, an stamental society, with rulers here and there, different reigns with different laws and habitants. I love this kind of histories, and obviously, the medium of anime also counts. It's like Fushigi Yugi, yes, but Twelve Kingdoms focuses more on what should be Yoko's correct behaviour and a good way to govern her kingdom. And Miaka doesn't so much responsability, or at least, she has much more people who helps her.
2.- Haibane Renmei
It may sounds funny if I admit that I haven't seen it all (just like Twelve Kingdoms), but with half the series I can truthly say that is one of my all-time prefered. As others animes may be good to me because of their story, because they act like a medium of entertainment, I use to consider Haibane Renmei as a "Teaching tool". It is, to me, a perfect story making you see things from a different way. Instead of action, mistery and hidden arguments that makes you think about what is this or what is that (I still don't know how are Haibane born or Reki's dream...). No, don't spoil those, please.
3.- Kareshi Kanojo no Jijyo (Kare Kano)
(By the way, I have to submit a different image to the Encyclopedia picture, I've got some that are better than the currently one.)
Why should I like this? Because of its sweetness. Are you thinking that I am girly? Maybe, but I have to insist that this anime is one of the best romance animes I have ever seen. While it is (by any way), similar to the WHOLE manga (almost seventh volume released in Spain ), I consider it as the part of Yukino and Soichiro's love. As the storyline is completly admirable (and I mean, there's nothing strange that happens, and remember I am not talking about reality or fiction, just of logic), the music is also rather quite and well-composed for the anime. And, the story makes (maybe) know you more of Japan (ok, this is just good if you like the country, but I do), the constant photographies, as well as the Opening & Ending, makes your mind finding all more real, more closer to us and our lives (for those who are studying, who whill, and who already had). Ok, enough, this is large...
After those, I find hard to decide which enter my own Top 5, so it's something that can easily change.
4.- Inuyasha
Another anime ambiented at old times, quite similar to Twelve Kingdoms or Fushigi Yugi. However, with Inuyasha, instead of liking by excellent characters or plots, I am a fan because it mixes a lots of ingredients. Action & Fights that take place with ancient scenarios, with swords and other non-hightechnology stuff, even at sometimes magic (like Tesaiga, the sword). Kagome usually represents more the humans, the way we can usually think or usually act. She's like representing me at Inuyasha's world. And, latest but not less important, the musics on it are more than good, who doesn't love My Will song? It's cool...
5.- Grave of the Fireflies (movie) (I had problems chosing this, other series like Wolf's Rain, NieA Under 7 and other Studio Ghibli films could deserve the fifht place...Let's just expect that movies also can be mentioned here ).
This is one of the best examples of how animated movies can do exactly the same the non-animated. Yes, I cried with it, and I've got no shame to admit so. It is a good way to fight agaisnt wars and all problems that they take. But, this is not the main thing. Seita and Setsuko are too young to deserve that, they even could do nothing. However, most people here knows how things go...(I won't spoil anything). So, sad, at all, but also great and a masterpiece when it comes to make people feel worse, and why? Because we usually do some things that they wrong, just like Shin Takahashi said. A sad storyline, yet one of the best I've seen (in anime, of course).
...I feel to tired to continue with the Bottom 5 list. Probably I'll do it later, maybe tomorrow. And don't tell me list threads should be like this, I'm tired >_
10 favorite and 5 least favorite anime? [Read first 2 Po
MY 1st POST ON ANN!!!! and it had to be this one. I have been a mild anime fun for a long time but it wasn't until last year that I became ravenous and gathered everything I could. So with no further adieu, my top 10 anime list.
10) Vampire Hunter D- it really got me started on Anime. I remeber watching this movie and thinking WOW if they only made more cartoons like this. Yeah thats how it all got started so long ago.
9) Initial D- Ha 2 D's in a row. This series could really be my 3rd favorite but I put it lower to save room. I love the cars and the racing. It turned me into a tuner. It is great.
8) Chrono Crusade- I love this anime. Occult, guns, historical settings, demons and hot nuns. I'm sold how about you.
7) Vandread- Like other the first time I saw this anime I was like WTF, but it grew on me and I think it is really great. I never liked mecha anime before but this anime changed me. Plus it is so fun when my wife calls me "Mr. Alien".
6) Neon Genisis Evangelion- I haven't seen the ending yet but i am really impressed with what I have seen so far. I have heard people mention the ending and frankly I am a little worried. I keep coming back to it though.
5) Full Metal Alchemist- It made me a religious Adult Swim fan and I am completely hooked on this series. I can't wait to see the end.
4) Gantz- I am going to do this Reading Rainbow style so stay with me. If you like graphic nudity, adult content, graphic violence like you could ever imagine, guns and aliens then you will LOVE this anime. Seriously if you can get by the low episode # on the disks it is so worth the watch.
3) Samurai Champloo- OH MY GOD (what god) I never thougth that hip hop and fuedal Japan could ever mix but by god they did it. The fight scenes are intense, the diologue is hilarious, and the charcters and unforgetable and I haven't even seen past the 1 disk. If you don't have it it is a must for 2005. Seriously.
2) Bleach- I stumbled upon this gem and I haven't regreted it. I am NOT a big comedy fan but seriously this is both funny and action filled. It has everything I love about anime. When this series finally gets licensed I will buy it for sure. Kan is my favorite charcter and he never fails to make me die laughing.
1) Samurai Deeper Kyo- I don't think anyone has mentioned this series yet but I will. I picked this anime up on a whim and it began my year long scramble for all things anime. Seriously it is my all time favorite. It is hard to understand first time through but I was never disappointed. This anime is like my favorite child and I will always come back to it. I love it.
Now for my least favorite of all anime.
1) DBZ- it kind of got me started on anime but it lost me quickly there after. I mean 20 minutes of screaming and moaning and it takes like 5 episodes to get threw a whole fight. KERIST( in my southern drawl) this anime is like watching paint dry.
2) Macross- I kinow I am probably committing a blasphemy but i didn't understand it one little bit. I mean it was cool but whats up with music and ......I don't know, me confused.
3) Divergence Eve- I have only seen the first episode but that was enough. Noe I like fanservice as much as the next guy but seriously. BOOBS DON'T LOOK LIKE THAT. Maybe it is funny and I am missing the joke.

It's also worth noting that happened only on the first run of Bebop. The first run on TV Tokyo was eps 2-3 7-15, 18. A few months later, the entire series was broadcast on WOWOW.
What are your 10 Favorite and 5 least favorite animes?
The order of my favorite anime is changing all the time, so I don't think I'll put any numbers.
Cowboy Bebop- Do I even need to elaborate? Brilliant in every sense of the word. Gorgeous animation, music (Yoko Kanno = goddess of music), superb characters, philosophy, and great action combine into an anime that almost anyone can enjoy. While it seems simple at first glance, there are many subtle aspects to the show that make it enjoyable even after many viewings, and deep on many levels. The drama and depth, along with the masterful twisting of how the viewers perceive the characters as the show goes on, make Cowboy Bebop an unforgettable series.
Wolf's Rain- This show has meant more to me than perhaps any other fictional anything-- ever. While the pacing of the show is terribly flawed, it wanders in the middle, and it didn't always stay on track, Wolf's Rain affected the way I view the world profoundly. There is just something so deep about this canine quest for Paradise, and the unfailing spirits of the characters even in the face of death and destruction. The ending was the most moving and devastating thing I believe I have ever seen-- painful, beautiful, and somehow filled with hope amongst all the death. While it's not for everyone, the depth and artistic storytelling in this show make it one of my favorites, and something I know I will have a place in my heart for the rest of my life. Oh, and let's not forget the breathtaking visuals and shiver-inducing music (Yoko Kanno's best, in my humble opinion).
RahXephon- The characters and complex story that truly comes full circle really made this show in my eyes. While many complain about the similarities between RahXephon and Eva, I found RahXephon to be much more fulfilling, uplifting, and well-told than its rather insanely dramatic predecessor. The characters are so incredibly human (they almost feel like someone you could meet walking along the street, or while at school) and interact with one another with such genuine enthusiasm, I found it hard to let them go after the series' end. The plot, while difficult to comprehend entirely, offered exceedingly beautiful messages on the human condition, and gave me a new faith in humanity. Despite its complex nature, the show truly thrives off of the simple joys its characters take in living, and I, as a viewer, found myself caring for them and feeling every emotion along with them.
Last Exile- Ah, what can we say about Last Exile? It is one of the most well-rounded series I have ever seen, and it truly shines in every area it enters. The animation is stunning, the characters are varied and easy to love (without falling into any anime steretypes at all), it has an excellent, juicy plot, lovely music, and a refreshing mix of genres. It also employs a type of world we haven't seen since Miyazaki's masterpiece Laputa: Castle in the Sky (and indeed, many of the same people worked on both pieces), that feels fresh and unlike almost anything you've ever seen. The action is enhanced by the breathtaking animation, the drama enhanced by the way the viewer cares for each character. The show feels genuine with everything it does. I have yet to see the ending (I have seen up to episode 20), but I have faith that it will wrap up splendidly. I recommend this series to almost anyone.
Witch Hunter Robin- It started off like your typical monster-of-the-day supernatural series, and ended up being a suspenseful story of conspiracy, shocking plot twists, and a timeless story of a girl trying to find her place in the world. The way this series was plotted was, although slow at times, brilliant. With each witch encounter, the witches become more and more human to the viewer's eyes, and the plot more and more covuluted. As the end comes closer, more and more shocking plot twists are thrown at you, all building up to an end that is bittersweet, open, but at the same time, resolves what it was building up to. Robin grows throughout the series from a shy girl to one with a power than is greater than perhaps she can handle. The well-written plot (with, might I add, some interesting biblical similarities, which increase the depth of the series though I am not religious), growth of Robin as a character, dark themes, and rollercoaster-ride plot, Witch Hunter Robin was a series that held a lot of wonder to me.
FLCL- One of the more insane things I have seen, FLCL is brilliant. No, really, it is. At a person's first viewing, they would be led to believe that the show is nonsensical and crazed, offering little or no room for depth, emotion, or philosophy. By the end of the show, the viewer has hopefully realized that FLCL not only makes a disturbing amount of sense--it's deep. Fast-paced to the point where it would drive most people crazy, after repeated viewings and taking it a little at a time the viewer can understand that this is a show of almost unparalleled complexity and brilliance. It offers many different themes and ideas at breakneak speed, but at its core it's a sentimental story about growing up (or the lack of growing up, in the cases of many of the characters). Add in a rockin' soundtrack by the Pillows, a zany sense of humor, and animation that is stylish and ever-changing, and you've got one fun show. It's one heck of a six-episode ride.
Paranoia Agent- I've only seen four episodes as of yet, but what I have seen is psychological and excellently paced. The main-character-relay style of storytelling is used to excellent effect, the whole concept of Shounen Bat is interesting (to say the least!), and this series keeps you thinking every second. I adore it so far and cannot wait to see the rest of the series. Satoshi Kon is incredible.
Favorite anime movies: Anything by Miyazaki/Ghibli, Millennium Actress, Tokyo Godfathers, and Samurai X OVAs (Trust, Betrayal, Reflection).
Anime that I'm seriously in love with, but it's more of a personal love than an actual acknowledgement of quality:
Pokémon- My first anime, and my favorite anime of all time, to be honest. I know all of its flaws, but those flaws don't bother me. I'm almost exclusively in love with the Japanese version (the dub bothers me). I'm very sentimental about anything relating to Pokémon, and I doubt I will ever stop being obsessed with it. It has been a big, BIG part of my life for the past nine years, and I can't imagine what life would be like without it.
Gravitation- Not generally something I believed I would like, but it grew on me, and grew on me, and now I adore it. The characters are just so much fun, and the series itself so wacky and silly, I can't help but adore it. It has its dark spots, too, which I acknowledge and enjoy. One of the very few romance-centered shows I actually like. Well, in the end, what can I say? I love Gravitation. I guess I have an annoying, squealy fangirl inside me after all.
I'm not going to list anime I don't like. I see no reason to.
...I think those are most of the major anime in my life, at least. ;; I hope I'm not forgetting anything.
What are your 10 Favorite and 5 least favorite animes?
I'll make this simple:
1. Cowboy Bebop - best sereis ever made and possibly ever will be made. Its flawless... and I tatooed it on my arm so i guess i have to stand by it no matter what!
2. Neon Genesis - Can't watch it all the time( cause i'd probably die from depression) but for what its worth its amazing.
3. GTO - Its just that good!
4. Macross plus
5. Mobile Suit Gundam 0083 Stardust Memory - its the only gundam series that seems logical.
6. Full Metal Panic - Its fun, and the animation is ridiculously amazing.
7. Outlaw Star - Its not really that good but for some reason i can't get enough.
8. Ghost in the Shell : stand alone complex - haven't seen it all but its shapin up pretty well.
9. Yu Yu Hakusho - again its not that good at all but i always want to see what happens next... and i guess thats important.
10. AKIRA, GHOST IN THE SHELL, PERFECT BLUE (all of these shouldnt be on any list... They're just that good and a given.)
Top 5 worst anime
5. EXCEL SAGA- I thought my head was gonna explode after like 5 min of it.
4. PUNI PUNI POEMI - Its excel saga!!!! AGAIN!!!!!
3. Saylor Moon - alot of people like it so i wont say why i don't
2. Blue Gender - Its inconsistent, boring, to many stereotypical characters and doesn't get you to ask for more.
1. TRIGUN - I despise this show. Its like watching an episode of pokemon. Its frustrating, the animation is dull, Character development had something going but that was halted when i realized Vash had the most illogical perspective on everything. The only thing cool about this show is the idea. But it failed miserably in my opinion. But the real reason i don't like it is because its compared to Cowboy Bebop way to often. Sorry Trigun fans. No offense but they are not even in the same league.
What are your 10 Favorite and 5 least favorite animes?
The following are my top ten anime --
1. Hellsing This is currently my obession at the moment, though I've read the current posts those are simply other peoples opionons, as this is mine that I adore the goth like vampire anime. Even if Alucard's battles are a bit one-sided, but you have to give it to them with the Incognito/Alucard battle. BUT I do enjoy the battles in the manga more, also I love the plot and story line of this anime and the manga! Though this is a top ten anime, I do enjoy the manga alot. =D Which I've read all five volumes so far that's been translated in the states.
2. Twelve Kingdoms Well, at first I wasn't too sure about the anime, I really didn't know anything about it. . BUT then my fiance told me to buy it and told me a bit of the plot to get me to urge for it and urged I did as I went out and bought the 49 episodes right off. =D Though, at the end I saw a opening for maybe a second season? Not too sure. @_@ But, if more comes out I'll surely buy it out. ^^
3. Vampire Princess Miyu[TV] I found this to be a good anime because I'm an odd fellow with one of those freakish vampire urgings. I found it to be a good anime over all and thought it was pretty cool, but I did find most episodes to end with more of a down point or just plain out depressing. If you're one to enjoy happy moments this isn't one of those animes. x_x Larva is one of my fave's in the series! And the two Miyu/Larva boat episodes didn't really end too depressing sorry I can't think of the names of the episodes off the top of my head. But this anime is surely in my top three. =D
4. Gun Grave Heh, another one of my dark anime obessions, though I read about it on sites and articles I at once bought the first sets of episodes that came out in the states and enjoyed it, so then I went off to a-h and bought up every episode I could in the fan-subs so I basically watched about the whole series besides a few episodes missing here and there. I adore the main character Brandon in the series. =D One of those silent gun men type of people, also can get very violent when he needs to.
5. InuYasha I know this has alot of fans because of it being on network televison but that doesn't bother me that much. I myself bought alot of the fan subs' up to about 140 something and heard of the series ending about 160 I believe not too sure. @_@ But it's a nice series though it is large, but I sort of became bored with the series. .=/ But I do have a fave section of the series which I adore and it'll always be my fave. XD Which is about episode 109 - 125 or so. o_x Of course I forgot the exact episodes mainly the episodes with the Schinintai that I heart. =D
6. Tenchi Muyo Can't help to always revert back to this anime, I'll always love it! =D Was one my first animes that I saw about the age of twelve or thirteen and now I'm eighteen. @_@ I find it to be a funny series full of many characters and some exciting moments along with tragic moments. ;-; But who can not heart Ayeka (Aeka) and Ryoko (Ryokou) =D
7. Tenchi GXP Yet, another Tenchi series that I found funny and worth the buy. Though, I found out a few things that wasn't great. =/ But I did love the comedy in this series, along with the women! ^^ A Tenchi series can't be complete without one male and about five to six wonderful women. =D And in this one ecchi robot. @_@
8. Chobits Heh, I just found this series a bit cute even though I'm a dark horror, kill anime type of person. =D This anime does have it all though. ^^ Comedy, Romance, and action. Hideki is a Hentai! Words I'll never forget. ^^ Of course Chii being one of the most adorable anime characters ever and Zimma (Jimma) and Dita being some of the coolest I've seen. =D
9. Outlaw Star Well, I can't say I don't love this anime! Gun's, violence, space, death! Even though is was aired on CN (Cartoon Network) in the states I found myself buying the DVD boxset once I found it!. . Which I watch every other month when I feel the urge for this anime.
10. Cowboy Bebop Another anime I first caught a glimsp on CN but I did myself buying this anime, along with the movie that came out on DVD. This series was great! Another one of those violent shot them up with twists and turns! ^^ Of course I adore Spike the main character along with his rival. =D As well, I'd have to say my fave episode would have to be the fifth episode, Ballet Of Fallen Angels it'll always be one of my fave's that always has much replay vaule! But I don't think that alone. I believe the whole series has replay vaule and that it's one of the top animes out there even though it's a bit too well-known I'll always love it. ^^
That's my top ten, I really don't have a top ten worst or really a five worst. x_X Though I think I might have one or two. Really don't hate that much anime. =D
1. Dragon Ball Z Only reason I really hate this anime is because of the talking. . =/ I mean the action was decent most of the time it just took WAY too long for them to get to the actual action. I don't really totally hate this anime I just found it a bit boring after awhile. =/
Erm that's really all I can think of, if I can add to my worst list I'll do it later. =D But for now I'll just leave it at that.
What are your 10 Favorite and 5 least favorite animes?
lol no one watched Crest/Banner of the Stars? oh well
From what i read, looks like everyone's number 1 anime is Cowboy Bebop and worst anime is Dragonball Z. I have watched too many animes so i don't really remember cowboy bebop that good but it was ok.
i must edit my opinon in 2nd favorite. It is juuni kokki. That anime rocked in the sky. It was dramatic, sentimental, excited had everything. It was master piece.
Now let's go into more deeper. The genre of the anime.
my favorite top 5 LOVE genre anime.
1. Kimagure Orange Road
this anime was just best romantic anime ever. I have seen lots of love relationship animes but it wasn't better than kimagure orange road. Kimiga nozomu eien, da capo, or any love animes can't beat this anime. we can say that this anime was the original love triangle anime since it is from 1986.
2. AIR
i played AIR game and it was good i won't spoil so let's wait for fansub shall we?
3. Kimi ga nozomu eien.
This anime had same story as kimagure orange road but it had so many sex scenes so it isn't top 1
4. Maison Ikkoku
Another Rumiko oneechan's anime. Very good. Love triangle however this time it is 1 girl and 2 boys. very comic and funny
5. Ai Yori Aoshi
this anime is very comic but also romantic. I suggest this anime to watch with your girlfriend if you have one. she will like it. my g/f did ~_~.
WORST LOVE ANIME is
AKANE MANIAX
this anime? is it anime? i call it CRAPPPPPPPPPPPP so bad so bad so bad. I liked akane from kgne but this anime was so bad i am not gonna even talk about this.
What are your 10 Favorite and 5 least favorite animes?
I don't get to see so much Anime, but I'll try my best to answer a really great question :!:
Best Top 5 anime for RK@42
1)Blue Gender
It's my favorite cause it was one of the first I ever saw.
The main reason i like is the genre it's a action,horror/thriller which basically shows how un-humane we really are when everything starts to stuff up and the adaptability of the main characters to successed in leaving Earth.
The drawing techniques is well shown and music is well used.
2)Trigun
I love this Anime not because the subtitles were better the English sync, well mainly, but because this specific anime goes nicely with the saying "there is a time to play and a time work" and cause Vash is Friggin cool!!
3)Berserk
To me i didn't know what was berserk, but as i watched i got straight into it and loved every bloody scene and stare-down scene (like in western movies). The poeple that made Berserk knew how to mix emotions instantly very well!
4)Scryed
i don't have clue why i like it, maybe cause it has 20% talk scenes and 80% fighting and it is so mysterious.
5) ROD Read Or Die
To me it was unique, different and showed that book worms can be cool. It was like a bumpy road... you don't expect the unexpected to happen in the first episode right through the 3rd and final episode. i also liked it cause the fighting styles in all battles were like a dance of death !
Worst Top 2 Anime for RK@42
1) Shadow Skill
It just annoyed me with all its cheapness in fighting style and its obective was boring. Its pathetic ending left me stunned for a few days. The movie was also dark on TV which left your eyes getting smaller and squinting to see what was going on.
2)Perfect Blue
It wasn't that bad but still it was pretty demented and just plain Whack :?, with all the madness and unreal effects
of a big women imatating such a pretty women to being her exact duplicate and later trying to kill her, which just happenes to be a her "friend"
.
Great!!
If you guys have different opinions about the above I said please ask me Why, What and How
It's OK. Just make your list again, but remember to put a few sentences or something after each one to tell us why you like or dislike that title.
And after all this time, I'm surprised I haven't made a top list myself. However, there are some titles I'd like to see first before doing so and others I'd like to rewatch for a fresher opinion. Someday, I'll post it...
What are your 10 Favorite and 5 least favorite animes?
Sousuke Segari said:
it not that SAC is crap or any thing its an ok show, but what pisses me off is the "there is no main storyline BS", and the fact that the charcters are so one sided they don't feel like they are real. However i do like the origional movie, i will let you know about the sequal when dreamworks admits they fucked it up and fixes it.
No main storyline? Ehh.. there is most certainly a main storyline. Just like any other series it has both episodic and central plot themed shows, it's just that SAC happens to tell you which it will be in the subtitle. As for the characters being "one-sided", they are pretty set in their ways, but the standalone eps show you other sides of them. This is especially so in 2nd gig.

1. Gokusen
Now people... there are some limits to what you can like and this anime is about 5 miles on the wrong side of the border... it is a losy storry and plott and.... i have no words it is ¤%#!¤ bad
What are your 10 Favorite and 5 least favorite animes?
I think that the most memorable anime of all time is Rurouni Kenshin/ Samurai X. I have watched RuroKen for 3 yearsnow and it has marked most peoples lives forever. A long time ago people watched anime and they thought they saw just moving Japanese pictures. Then I saw Kenshin, and it never was the same. Kenshin tried to avenge for his sins with honour, and its one of the reasons I live the way I do. Really there is a direct coorealation between people who don't watch Kenshin, and people who have no honour at all, with about 5*10*900000 exceptions. lol
^The above postwas full of crap.
Enjoyable entertainment with some interesting characters. While the story does get a little odd at at times (i.e. Episode 7 of R.O.D. the TV), the characters are very well done ... if a little too book-crazy. (Seriously, Yomiko's building full of books and the Paper Sister's Hong Kong apartment? They need credit card counseling. )
9. .hack//SIGN
While it was only the precursor to bigger things to come, this series is also self-contained and really doesn't need what comes after to still be a great piece of storytelling in a computer gameworld setting.
It's great how all of the "heroes" in the story aren't really medieval heroes in a fantasy world -- all of them are just ordinary people living in the real world. I've heard a lot of comments about them ("they are all whinny"), but they are just people -- you, me, anyone else in the world, really. It's this simple fact that makes .hack//SIGN relatable to many people.
8. Perfect Blue
This one had me both confused and frightened -- just as direct Satoshi Kon probably expected me to be. If there were any one-liner to describe this, it would be a "descent into madness".
I've had those few lingering questions, like
why is it that Mima continues to see Rumi as herself? Does Rumi have some sort of psychic powers? It's never revealed, so all we do have to go on is that Mima is just going nuts. But then, at the end, she's fine. Everyone's fine.
Well, whatever. It's still an edge-of-your-seat movie, to be sure -- and one classic horror movie at that.
7. Noir
While there is that whole "name of an ancient fate" story arc that progesses throughout, the beginning of the story is quite simple: a pair of assassins team up to eliminate targets and earn their money -- sort of a flipped coin, with Cowboy Bebop on the other side.
After all, you have the same realistic firearms (Mireille and Jet both use a Walther P99), the criminal past that is being left behind (Mireille and Spike), forgotten pasts (Faye and Kirika), and the eventual nemesis who stays behind the scenes most of the time (Vicious and Chloe).
Noir's flashback story bogs it down a little (especially in the first five or six episodes), but stick with it and you will find a great series with an ending that might leave things open for more...
6. Magic Knight Rayearth
Three ordinary girls journey across a fantasy land to save a world from destruction. So, why is this #6 on my list? Because the story is just that unordinary.
The companions are all different people with different goals in life -- but they are brought together by circumstance and become close-knit companions whose friendship and integrity define them as true heroes.
You will be here mainly for the journey, which must be watched from beginning to end to enjoy the story fully. You may think you know how the story is going to end ... but I'll let you see that for yourself.
5. Record of Lodoss War: Chronicles of the Heroic Knight
I put the TV series above the Record of Lodoss War OAV collection on my list mainly because there is a lot more story here that doesn't have the rushed feeling of the OAV. (The best way to start the TV series is to watch the OAV up to Episode 8 ["Requiem for Warriors"], then begin the TV series.)
The first part of the TV series begins after the War of Heroes. Here, we get a lot more character development from everyone -- Parn learns more about being a hero, Ashram becomes a more dynamic enemy, and Kashue's influence on them both drive both throughout the TV series. Another bright point is that Orson and Shiris' story is expanded in a great way.
The next part deals in the story of a new generation of heroes, and brings the ending of the OAV back into the story with all-new twists.
For me, it's the best version of the Lodoss War story, succeeded (unfortunately) by one of my Least Favorites below.
4. Inuyasha
This is how an ongoing series should be written. Great comedy and high drama, memorable dynamic characters, a time-travel story that rewrites all the history books, and fresh challenges every episode. So far, after the 70+ episodes that have been out, the show hasn't lost any of its magic and charm. Couple the TV series and movies with some other great fan media (for North America, the Playstation fighting game and Playstation 2 RPG game, but a lot more in Japan), and you have one timeless classic that anyone can really watch and enjoy.
3. Cardcaptor Sakura
This one would have to stand as the most controversal teen comedy ever created -- that wasn't that convtroversal since it was heavily cut and dubbed to so much change the story that the original's great comedy elements are buried. Getting the uncut version was perhaps one of the best decisions I made -- the taboo relationship stories alone are worth it. Coupled with some interesting action and smart story (every card has a well-thought out weakness that isn't very obvious), this is perhaps CLAMP's best series ever.
2. Neon Genesis Evangelion
The story starts out just like any anime you've seen: giant robot-like creatures clash each other in a titanic battle. But these anti-heroes are the last people you would expect to save the world from domination by the Angels -- the real, Biblical Angels. The character match-up is the oddest I've ever seen: A cool and calculating girl who could care less about anyone but their commander; an introverted boy who just pilots the Evangelion "because that's what everyone expects him to do"; and a red-haired wild-child who only wants to pilot the Evangelion and have fun.
As the show moves on, though, you begin to realize that things are not the same. Each of the characters' egos are challenged by what they experience. Then you have The End of Evangelion, which is the most mind-blowing experience I've ever seen. On top of all of that are so many secrets and revelations that you don't realize (until you view the TV series again) how much they really were telling you from the start. This series deserves being called one of the best.
1. Cowboy Bebop
This is the big one, that one series out of all the others that anyone can watch all the way through and enjoy. I've been told that this series turned a lot of people on to anime -- and it's easy to see why. The open-ended story, the bounties, the exploration of the pasts of every character, and the main arc that revolves around Spike's dark past -- everything is paced so wonderfully.
Bebop features perhaps the best music of any anime -- one of the big reasons why Bebop is above Noir, which I mentioned was similar in style. The music is appropriate everywhere you hear it. The characters are the most oddball bunch you'd ever see -- the dark hero, the ex-cop, the con-lady, the computer hacker, and the high-IQ dog. Somehow, they all really do work together and become a very close family -- even though they won't admit it at all.
The Real Folk Blues has to be the best ending to any series I've ever seen. It wonderfully resolves a great series, which few series' ending really do well.
My all-time favorite that I never tire of watching again and again.
(Note that if it were considered anime, Transformers would also be on this list. The orignal seasons were great, and Transformers: The Movie is still the best earth-shattering transition moment of any major animated series.)
Glory Questor's Least 5 favorite:
5. .hack//Liminality
I hate when something that looks like it would be great misses the mark. The first episode looks like it was supposed to feature some computer graphics -- but all we get is a monocolored screen that screams "missing footage".
It's a disappointing beginning that leads to a more interesting middle (I like Volumes 2 and 3), but has a really disappointing end (once again, we can't see what's going on in The World). The only question that would be asked is "what was the point of all that?". Now that I look back, just what was Mr. Tokuoka's purpose here? What "evidence" was he trying to get?
4. Legend of Lemnear
The Champion of Gold captures the Champion of Bronze, and it is up to the Champion of Silver, Lemnear, to save Bronze from Gold. Why do I feel like I'm in an olympic triathlon? Seriously, this one is a great premises that seems to have been rushed -- resulting in a fair anime that had enough material to be a wonderful anime. With such a far-reaching story, though, you need more time to tell it. 60 minutes is not enough for this story -- it needs more backstory.
3. Kimera
Ugh. Just why is the main character attracted to Kimera? Just why can't he listen to his best friend? Just what is the story here? I haven't seen this in a long time, and probably won't drag it out ever again.
2. Vampire Wars
Woah! Slow down the story here! Some guy gets involved in this wierd conspiracy that turns into him meeting wierd vampires and at the end
he confesses his love for the girl -- but hasn't spent more than a day with her! :?
I didn't think a story could get more confusing than this one. I was wrong.
1. Voltage Fighter Gowcaizer
Um, yeah. The guy is being attacked by the Class Presidents, who merge into a super being and almost kill the guy -- while his "best friend" just sits back and lets it happen. Then some other transfer student comes in, who has a fire dog, and who falls in love with the rich girl, a man who has a grudge against the president of the school who is hiding all the negativity of the universe inside of him...
If anyone can make some sort of watchable story out of all of this, I'd be surprised.
What are your 10 Favorite and 5 least favorite animes?
My top ten
1. Spirited Away - I saw sooo many different messages and morals in this, and whoever said this is for children you are very wrong! I've watched it about four times now and everytime i pick up something different. Definately the smartest, beautiful and meaningful movies I have ever seen. (this number one spot also takes up all of miyazakis movies)
2. Spriggan - My number two spot was a hard decision but Spriggan was definately very awesome (that makes no sense). It is really really amazing, the ideas, the graphics the everything... i'm disappointed it didn't spark off any other spriggan movies or series, but maybe that would've ruined it.
3. Ninja Scroll - Highly entertaining.
4. Grave of the Fireflies - Although it is a studio ghibli film it still deserves it's own spot on my list. This is definately a movie everybody has to see before they die. It's not like any other anime I have ever seen (although i haven't really seen many sad anime). I could talk about it for hours.
5. Rurouni Kenshin (series) - There is quite a big jump from 4. to 5. but that doesn't change the fact that i absolutely love rurouni kenshin!!! By far my favourite series, the ebst fight scenes the best characters (i love misao, not sure about spelling)
6. Neon Genesis Evangelion & the end of evangelion - it truly is in a league of its own. The end of eva maybe a bit too deep, every scene was too important which weighed the movie down a bit, but it still is an excellent anime!
7. Perfect Blue - The best horror anime, I know this because it gave me a few extra heartbeats. I love it's suspense at the end how it just leaves u to make of it what u will.
8. Blood: The Last Vampire - from 7 to 10 they're all pretty much the same, i loved them all. Blood was really great , a must see. Some people might not see this as a compliment or untrue but i think the blood: the last vampire is the most typical anime, and that's GREAT! It's blood, it's killing, it's gorey, it's action, it's samurai swords, it's demons... it's everything!
9. Ninja Resurrection - The main reason this is on my list is because it's an unforgettable anime. Not only is it totally awesome but i just can't forget it..
10. Samurai X: Reflection - I know that most kenshin fans hate samurai X and probably me now.... but I look at the Samurai X series as a completely different anime to rurouni kenshin... as if it's in a parralell world or something. And Reflection was very very good, maybe a bit TOO sad but still.
[Vampire Hunter D: BLoodlust, Akira and Metropolis come an equal 11]
Now my least favourite anime that i've seen.
1. Vampire Princess Miyu - Don't get me started
2. Ghost in the Shell - Completely stupid and illogical, was i supposed to understand it?
3. Dragonball (anything) - stupid stupid stupid
4. Tenchi Muyo - Where is the storyline?
5. Orphen - LAME!
What are your 10 Favorite and 5 least favorite animes?
I have many favorities so I try to keep my list short and consice.
1. Full Metal Alchemist My new favorite fantasy/supernatural anime. It's suspenseful(especially near the end) some of the characters I did hate like the Fuhrer. Animation is superb, music very well done.
2. Berserk I love the manga way more but I'm still very fond of what I have seen of the anime. I like dark fantasy animes. Animation is old but oh well. I feel sorry for most of the characters in this mature series.
3. Vision of Escaflowne my first anime. The only thing I don't like about is most of episode one but everything else I like and I wish it was longer.
4. Inuyasha A Feudal Fairy Tale I've always like the music, the somewhat slow character deveoplment. I really wished a certain villian would just DIE ALREADY. Inuyasha in my mind is at its peak around the Shichiniin-Tai(Seven Man Army) arc then goes downhill.
5. Yu Yu Hakusho the Ghost Files I admire and love tounrey figthing the plot is rather simple. Yusuke I didn't expect him to be the hero.
6. Naruto Another tounrey fighter anime I like. Naruto is like the ulimate underdog just watching him suceed makes this anime worth watching.
7. Elfen Lied I always liked horror and suspence and I'm also a fan of Carrie and Frankenstein this series reminds me of those two. Probably the darkest, sickest anime I like and even seen thus far.
8. Ruin Explorers Extremely short. I like most the characters and the villian I feel sorry for.
9. Rurouni Kenshin A character that did a vow of not killing and having a dark past appeals to me and its original(the vow I mean). The music, animation I like up to and after the Kyoto Arc then my respect for the series goes out of the window.
10. Any Other Anime I seen in my Anime list. I'm not a picky person if I like the animation, characters, or music then I probably like the anime.
And now for Animes that I don't really care for:
1.Hamtaro There voices are soooo [insert various curse words here] annyoing!!! Ugh and the plot is so wretched....
2. Kikaider the story was good but the animation somehow hurts my eyes and I kinda didn't like it in the first place.
3. Beet It reminds me of Pokemon and Yu-gi-oh. Not fun or amusing at all.
4. Lupin the 3rd Usually I like old anime/old animation but I don't like this anime...Lupin is annyoing to me and I don't like the characters.
5. Soul Taker It didn't appeal to me at all and it was very confusing plot wise.
What are your 10 Favorite and 5 least favorite animes?
1. Inu-yasha: It maybe one of the longest running shows but its never ending fun.
2. Fruits Basket: It funny, sad, romantic, what else could i want.
3. D.N.Angel: it all i could ask for a love triangle
4. Ranma 1/2: it so funny and at times romantic
5. Sailor Moon: it was the very frist anime i saw and i love it as much as then and now
BAD ANIME TO ME:
1. Pokemon
2. Digimon season 2,3
3. Yugioh
