What are your 10 Favorite and 5 least favorite animes?

hehe let me think hmm..
1: Scrapped Princess ( this is the greatest anime i have watched... so far, i love the characters, the humor, and the fights. The only anime that ever touched me so deeply)

2: Love Hina ( it is the defenitly the funniets anime i know, but at the same time also touching and it has great characters too:especially Naru)

3: Ah!! my goddess ( The movie was great! it has a great story, the OAV's were great too, beatiful characters; I have read all of the manga that is out and they really are the best manga i have read so far, I hope that the TV series will be just as great)

4:Sister Princess ( just Sister princess and not Sister Prinncess: repure, it's really funny and the sisters are all great)

5:Chobits ( great story and Chi is just so damn cute)

worst:
Final fantasy Unlimited ( I really had excpected more from this since the game is great)

Sister Princess Repure ( After watching Sister princess, i thought this would be as great as that, but it wasn't, actually it made Sister Princess look a little bad for me)

That was about it.. for now...

What are your 10 favorite and 5 least favorite anime?

Top 10 favorites from worst to best:

10. Sailor Moon - How can I not forget this series. Even though it dragged most of the time, it was still a great series.

9. .hack//SIGN - this series is slow moving but still grabbed my attention, and was the first anime dvd I bought.

8. Azumanga Daioh - Filled with laughs throughout the entire series. Who doesn't like a series about a bunch of schoolgirls yucking it up?

7. Naruto - I have yet to see the dub version, and I'm wildly excited. This anime got me into ninja anime.

6. Excel Saga - FUNNIEST ANIME EVER!

5. Nadia - This series doesn't drag like most, and the story is great with many laughs, tears, and drama.

4. Yu-gi-oh - for some reason, I can't do anything to hate this series. I've only seen the uncut version thus far.

3. .hack//Legend of the Twilight - why does this series do so much better than .hack//SIGN, because its not slow and it's more interesting and the characters are funny, and it's not depressing like .hack//SIGN.

2. Raxephon - This series was outstanding when I first saw it. I just can't live to forget it.

1. Magic Knight Rayearth - my alltime favorite series ever. 3 schoolgirls are magically transported to an RPG world filled with adventure. I find myself watching it more than once every day.

Honorable Mentions: These are series that are below the top ten, but I still love them: Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Full Moon wo Sagashite, Pretear, One Piece, Magic Users Club, Yu Yu Hakusho, Pita Ten, Brigadoon, Cardcaptor Sakura, Gravitation, Corrector Yui, and InuYasha.

TOP 5 WORST ANIME: best to worse

5. X: The Movie - Ugh. I first watched this movie a couple of days ago on Showtime Beyond and I just didn't think it was my type of anime. It was boring. I turned it off about 30 minutes into the movie.

4. Pokemon - while some of the episodes are good, some are absolutely pathetic.

3. Initial D - YUCK! One of worst dubs ever. Tokyopop doesn't like certain series do they?

2. Chobits - what might have been the best CLAMP anime ever made may be just the worst anime for me. It just made me sick. I'm sorry to say this but I just didn't like it at all. The manga is good though.

1. Getter Robo - UGH! Can you say Boring??? I first watched this series and after the first episode I told myself "WTF is this?" I sold my boxset the next day on eBay.

What are your 10 Favorite and 5 least favorite animes?

Ok, I still had to put the five animes that I dislike more, so...

1.- Revolutionary Girl Utena

I got a headache for a few days when I saw this anime. I heard so many people saying it was so good, but in my opinion, it is excessively overrated. The characters aren't well drawn. They are ALL thin, well, THIN (you know what's that, right?), and the college...In my country, that's not a place where people goes to learn, that's more similar to a huge castle...:?

The story is repetitive (there's that song and that fight at every chapter), and it doesn't make any kind of real sense (it's just for those who think that it can have one).

And I can't find any more animes that I dislike so much, but I can't stand most of Clamp's manga...>_

What are your 10 Favorite and 5 least favorite animes?

To start, it was sad to see Ghost in a Shell in Sousuke Segari's crap section. But anyways, whatever. But how about top five?

5. Lupin III series. Well, I haven't seen every Lupin III episodes (who can actually claim they've seen every one of them?). But I've seen quite a few and its an excellent series. Especially the movie "Castle of Cagliostro". That has to be one of the best of Lupin III franchise (even though they never used Lupin's name directly in the english version.)

4. Akira. A given.

3. Ghost in a Shell. Incredibly deep and engrossing storyline. Im enjoying the new Stand Alone Complex series also that they're showing on Adult Swim.

2. Ranma 1/2. Just an excellent comedy. Too bad Rumiko's Inyuasha isn't as good.

1. Cowboy Bebop. This series brought me to become the pure addict that I am now for anime. The pop cultured, jazz infused classic deserves to be on everyones shelf.

Also some new series that are looking promising: Full Metal Alchemist, Wolf's Rain, Last Exile. Oh yeah some crap? How about the overly drawn out Inuyasha (not its not all bad i guess, but not the best for sure).

Well if we keep this one sticky, all we have to do (for this particular topic) is lock all the newly created ones and make sure to keep an eye on questionable posts that violate the "List Thread" rule.

I'm sure the rest of the Mods will be more than willing to lock another "favorites" thread if they feel that certain subject has already been discussed to death, or that they just don't feel like having another potential "list thread."

I say we leave it up to them to use their best judgement for this, but for now, let's keep this thread stickied and see if it works out a little better.

3. Cowboy Bebop, Great idea of Bounty hunters in space with the old western style and with characters that have a purpose.
But Silll it's really over-rated with the wave of fans wanting a second season too it.

2nd Season?
i coulda sworn that Spike dies in the end...and he's the main character.
So what would the second season be about?

What are your 10 Favorite and 5 least favorite animes?

Well heres my top 10

10- Vampire hunter D bloodlust: simple story, great action but the battles are too short.

9-Hellsing, well funny story and really good action. But the end was predictable.

8- Love Hina, yeah with all the violents ones I've seen i had to take a break and watch something cute and funny. But it was addictive thought.

7-Rurouni Kenshin OVA and TV: I live in a really small place in canada to buy anime i had to do 2 hours of driving, and at that time i had no credit card to buy them on the net because i was too young and paying on the internet was impossible to my mom. So i had to download every episodes. It took me 1 year and a half to have them all. But it was worth it. The only thing i have to say that i disliked is that they should have put shishio's battle at the end.

6-FLCL pretty good anime, i liked it because it was really tough to understand what happens with the main character. It took me 2 times to understand everything because some things are very subtle.

5-Ninja Scroll, well I've only seen the film so i don't have any ideas of what it is in TV series. The film was really great and i really liked the blind guy. It was almost the same as in RK.

4-Jin-Roh, made by the creator of Ghost in the shell, its is a totally different world than in GITS and appleseed. Nazis won the war and it really different for all that I've seen. The ending is the most troubling part.

3-Ghost in the Shell, well here it is one that left me thinking for a week. Because of what I've seen in then might happen sooner than we think.

2- Spriggan, very, very hard to find anime. But it might be because US are the bad ones in it. Really well drawn graphics and almost everything in this looks like if it's happening or going to happen.

1- Princess Mononoke, the first one I've seen 5 years ago and made me an anime addict.I think for me it will always be the best because of the morale it contained. Thats what I really like of Hayao Miyasaki.

Least Favorites:

Trigun, i couldnt get into the story and the hero was too dumb, i didn't even seen them all.

My top 10 favorite anime:

10) Ikki Tosen - not the best, but definitely not the worst anime i've seen! ^^
9) Wedding Peach - What can I say? ^_^ just worth mentioning
8) .hack//LEGEND OF THE TWILIGHT - I gotta put this. funny funny funny and good story...doesn't drag.
7) I My Me, Strawberry Eggs - I just LOVE the story to this and i love the character! it showed alot of affection to me.
6) Magic User's Club - i just had to mention this anime, i can't stop watching this...it's that good.
5) Someday's Dreamers - the best anime i've ever seen involving magic users! ^^
4) Steel Angel Kurumi - OMG kurumi is sooo cute and i can't stop thinking about her or the anime itself...a hem!
3) Nadia:Secret of Blue Water - by far the best anime i've seen involving story and characterization. i love nadia!
2) Sailor Moon - who doesn't love the fact that there really are sailor soldiers of the nine planets trying to fight evil? ^^
1) InuYasha - what can i say? great story, great plot, worth my time.

Honorable Mentions:

.hack//SIGN, Magic Knight Rayearth, Dirty Pair Flash, Snow Fairy named Sugar, Haibane Renmei, Zenki, FAKE, Gravitation, Ai Yori Aoshi! ^^

Top 5 of my worst anime:

5) Pokemon - the best of the worst anime on this list...i always disliked this anime
4) Samurai X:The Motion Picture - I like Rurouni Kenshin, but this movie just had too much blood...than story.
3) Dragonball Z - I can't see what some DBZ fans see in it...all I see is *hack hack*
2) Kiddy Grade - Can you say BORING?
1) Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - I watch the opening at night but that's all...i had to turn it off...THAT BAD.

What are your 10 favorite and 5 least favorite anime?

Let's see...

Cowboy Bebop. From the first time I saw this series, I absolutely loved it. It has such *style*, which isn't such a bad thing in my book. I have a long history of liking things that are visually stylish. And I really like the characters, especially Spike. :D Yoko Kanno's music is amazing.

Escaflowne. What a beautifully-done series. And once again, Kanno does a great soundtrack.

RahXephon. People call it an Eva-ripoff, but since I haven't really seen NGE I can't compare them. The animation is very good, & it has a great story. I especially like how they switched the POV to the main female character in the movie version. It made it more of a love-story, & a great one at that.

Trigun. At first I thought I would hate this series because Vash is so silly at the beginning. But once Vash gets serious, the series improves greatly.

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. This show plays like a live-action Cyberpunk crime-drama, & that's what I like about it. More great music from Kanno.

Hellsing. Besides Bebop, I think this one has a great dub. And the fact that Alucard really enjoys being a vampire makes it different.

Excel Saga. It appeals to my silly side. The show is nuts! I will probably like Cromartie High School too.

Can't think of anymore right now.

What are your 10 favorite and 5 least favorite anime?

Last time, I had post 5 favorites.

Now, here are 2 more TV series (oldies and hard to find):

1. Furandaasu No Inu, The Dog of Flanders - a very long story of love between a boy Nello and a dog Patrash. A warmth and moving series. Although the emotional impact is not as strong as Grave of the Fireflies but the feeling of despair after watching the end of the series stayed with me for at least a couple of hours. Hopefully, one day, there will be a reprint of this series on DVD.

2. Conan, The Boy of The Future - a story of love between a boy Conan and a girl Lana. There is a resemblance between Conan and Laputa since both are Mayazaki's works. However, Conan is much more powerful than Pazu - don't get me wrong and picture the image of another clumsy and stupid character with the same name CONAN from Hollywood. The Conan boy was slim but the boy got strength all over his body down to his toes, and he was fast. The passion of love of this Conan boy is totally reflected in his wild strength. Hopefully, this series will be offically released on DVD.

What are your 10 Favorite and 5 least favorite animes?

Here is my top 10, in decreasing order

10. Ah! My Goddess ova+movie
awsome graphics, consider the age of the anime(for the ovas), and the storyline was awsome too, and extremely likable characters, especially Belldandy :P

9. Wolf's Rain
great character design, decent storyline, but the way it was carried out really made the story memorable. The ending was extremely confusing and sad, as expected from Bones Studio, just the way i like it :) Since OP/ED are part of the anime too, Gravity is really one of the best ending songs.

8.Scrapped Princess
Another great anime by Bones Studio, awsome character design, very interesting story. Anyone who likes the Matrix will definately like this. I like the movement from a complete fatasy to sci-fi. It normally would feel wierd, but this one was smooth, and really suprising.

7.Kimi Ga Nozo Eien
Emotional, depressing, angest, heartwarming(the ending.. for me anyway), all in 1. And its the most 'normal' anime i've seen, i mean, everything is possible in real life, though not very probable. Great music overall, awsome vocals, Rumbling hearts and Kimi Ga Nozo Eien really stands out.

6. Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu
Extremely funny, and memorable characters, and awsome parodies of other animes. Although there really isnt a storyline, all the humors definately made up for it. Great music too, just like FMP

5.Neon Genesis Evangelion+End of Eva
Even though some parts are extremely confusing, and some really annoying characters coughshinjicough, the anime is still good. Tons of religious references with complicated storyline. Anyone who liked the game Xenogears by squaresoft will definately like this, there are a lot of similarities.

4. Fushigi Yuugi
Decent storyline overall, but nothing really stands out there. What does stand out are the characters, everyone is memorable. Great mixture of romance and drama. Some parts are really emotional and memorable, and of course many sad scenes. The art is amazing too.

3. Haibane Renmei
nothing anyone haven't mentioned yet, plain sad drama, with great characters. The music really add a lot to the mood. Anyone should like this.

2. GTO
Best comedy i've seen without a doubt, not to mention all the drama that can easily make someone depressed. Unbeatable characters like Onizuka and Urumi, with great songs such as Driver's high, last piece, shizuku, and that Porno Graffiti song, this anime is the closet anime to perfection in my opinion. Of course, if i wasnt a huge psycological anime fan, this would definately being #1. So that brings us to...

1. RahXephon
really, everything Evangelion could be, should be, wants to be, and more. Extremely complicated character interactions, deep characters, and probably the most satisfying ending out of all the 'epic' endings. Great music in general, and opening by maaya sakamoto. Perfect mixture between drama, psycological and romance. Episode 19 is definately the most memorable episode for me.

Few animes i thought are somewat disappointing, though not necessarily bad are...

Naruto-DBZ the second? everything was pretty good until they started to include like 5 min of flashbacks every episode, and extremely long battles with no storyline progressing.

FMA-My least favorite Bones Studio work, after such good works like SP, WR, and RahXephon, this just doesnt really match up with any of them. Tons of fillers, and the extremely bad twist in the end. Maybe the movie will make up for it.

.Hack//Sign- Great music, but pretty much mediocre to bad in everything else.

What are your 10 favorite and 5 least favorite anime?

Top 10 Favorites:

1) Hajime no Ippo: Love boxing and this series does such a great job of mixing storytelling and great boxing fights.

2) Berserk: Gatz is one of my favorite anime characters and I love the gory action and awesome story.

3) Gungrave: Brandon Heat is a very deep and interesting character and I love the ending.

4) Elfen Leid: The story is very intriguing and I love the bloody violence.

5) Hellsing: Alucard is a very sweet sadistic character and the story is awesome.

6) Rurouni Kenshin: Has the best fight in anime history: Kenshin vs. Saito. I love the sword action and the characters are so deep and well developed.

7) Scryed: It has amazing fight scenes.

8) Neon Genesis Evangelion: The story is so deep and the characters are so well developed. Downside is the story gets quite weird towards the conclusion.

9) Cowboy Bebop: Very stylish and I love that each episode contains a seperate story that usually involves Spike and Jet chasing down some bounties.

10) Trigun: Wolfwood is an awesome character and I like that Vash the Stampede is different from most protagonists since he won't kill anyone.

5 Least Favorites

1) FLCL: It's boring and I hate how the whole thing is setup.

2) Blue Gender: Too boring for my tastes.

3) Sailor Moon: Way too much girl power.

4) Tekken Movie: Horrible fight sequences and animation.

What are your 10 Favorite and 5 least favorite animes?

1- Samurai X (ova)
The storyline was awesome and the music moving. I was totaly moved by Tomoe personnality... although i was kinda expecting her hatred for Kenshin since her fiance murder will gradually turn into love, but how the story evolve was astounding...She hated Kenshin from the bottom of her heart, then he saved her...she slowly learned more and more about him. Why did he become an assasin? Their conversation was sometime kinda plain, but how Tomoe reacted to each and everyone of those discussion was interesting...this Ova was soooo well made, her hatred lead to curiosity, then sympathy and finally love...this evolution was perfect. Since nothing's perfect i'll gladly give this anime an 9.9999999/10

2- Ai Yori Aoshi (both season)
This is by far my favorite romantic anime...i know there's a lot a childish scene in this serie, but as a whole i have never enjoyed a romantic piece of work like this one... Every single detail in the relationship Kaoru-Aoi was sweet and enjoyable, how Gloomy Kaoru WAS and then how he changed... Aoi always strong and very refine, but how cry baby she could be but then again only in front of Kaoru. I didn't like Tina's bad habit really much then again nothing major there. This is also the most dreamy anime for me ;)

3- Graves of the fireflies
This is a..... sad...very sad anime... it's real, touching, moving and will make you cry over and over again. I always feel so aweful after i've watched it but yet i keep watching it over and over again... this is a classic and a must see by everyone

4- Voice of the distant stars
Only half an hour long, but it's completed... A little like grave of the fireflies it made me feel awful every single time i've watched it, but unlike graves it wasn't because how sad it was, but only because how they've closed it...the ending was not an ending at least not for me, but if it ended differently it wont be the same... it's hard to explain but the ending was great, but it piss me off.... gahhhh just watch it and see what i mean :)

5- Vampire Princess Miyu (ova)
I've always love vampire stuff and all and vampire princess Miyu really impress me. Miyu personnality really reflect a vampire...how cold she seemed, how tricky and full of life she can be and how constantly depress she seem to be...the story wasn't really complicated but the details was kinda nice the music also fit the atmosphere perfectly probably one of the best anime soundtrack i've bought :)

6- Lodoss war (first serie)
Medieval stuff always interested me, and as i said Lodoss was THE anime that introduce me to the whole Anime world, so this serie always keep me nostalgic, i love Deedlit char and the relationship between Parn and her was so cute. The storyline was incredible, i like each and evryone of the char in the serie Ashram as much as Parn...also the vey thin line between good and evil was very well showed Lodoss vs Marmo.... beside Wagnar no one is really evil...not even Karla.

7- Ayashi no Ceres
This serie first disturb me since i wasn't really use to see cousin and brother trying to rape her sister or cousin... it was weird, but i kept watching the rest and god how glad i am that i did... this serie is incredible it's different from most of the other anime... it's a little like a drama fairy tale...The dub Version was awful but beside that the whole serie was intertaining, the story very interesting and Ceres sooo pretty :)

8- GTO
Well to tell the truth i'm not a really big fan of comedy usually, but GTO is somehow different i rented the first DVD by mistake and actually enjoyed it so much that i end up watching the rest of the serie and even bought it...Nothing really special, just an unconventional teacher dealing with some students everyday, but this teacher is something else :)

9- Argentosoma
Yup most people will suggest me to watch Eva which i did, but i did enjoy Argentosoma more than eva, probably because i didn't like Shinji from eva very much but i did like Ryu Soma a lot. Personnally i think we have to stop comparing Eva to Argentosoma and try to focus on each and everyone of them as a different serie, Eva was really great too, but i much prefer the contrast in Ryu Soma personnality, how kind hearted he was, then how cruel he'd become, but not totally cruel... it's hard to explain because i really think he did went through a lot. His every move and reaction toward Harriet was so hard to predict...how heartless he sounds to her but how much he cared for her or maybe was it because he cared for Maki...the twist was very fascinating and that's really why i love thise serie so much :)

10- Happy Lesson
i've watch Love Hina before and it was fun and all but nothing really impress me much, then i rented this serie and it had the same atmosphere and all but how the story evolve and the main idea was much more enjoyable the Hina... i did not like Keitaro all that much kinda weak and whiny.... maybe to much... and didn't really get into the that stuff where a guy got beaten all day long by 5 different girls... well more like 4 since Shinobu was kinda kind and all... Chitose in the other hand was very normal not the best in school, bot the worst, not the strongest, not the cutest and certainly not the kindest, but the teachers or the mom play an essential role in the serie, how they changed him... i dunno maybe it's just me but this serie is much more funny and enjoyable than Hina :)

Well there a lot more anime i like but those are pretty much my top 10 FOR NOW

What are your 10 Favorite and 5 least favorite animes?

First of all i would like to say i am pretty new to the anime world but whatever i see i have to buy since i live in Canada.
TOP ANIME

Rouroni Kenshin (TV)
Beautiful fighting scences, and its not over dramatic like some series become. Kenshin Himura, Sanosuke Sagara, Kaoru Kamiya, are well thought out characters. Even though you know Kenshin is the best the series keeps you on the edge of your seat thinking that he might lose
Battle against Shishio

(Added too in a bit)

What are your 10 Favorite and 5 least favorite animes?

Here's my list:

1) Full metal panic! and full metal panic?fumoffu - this was the first anime i saw that wasnt a mainstream anime shown on UK TV such as pokemon and DBZ. Its got everything an anime should have with the extra element of mecha. FMP2 is of one of very few anime that keeps me laughing throughout

2)Fruits basket - it may sound boring but it the opposite. I dunno why but it just made me love it. When it finished i was left with a sense of loss.

3) Naruto - Now i know quite a few people say this drags on and is uninteresting but it's addictive to watch and quite fun too. It does drag on in few parts but thats ok for such a large series.

4) Initial d - Cars and street racing, whats not to like? The soundtrack also kicks a**.

5) Samurai champloo - samurai anime blended with my favourite music genre (hip hop). And the main characters do not mess around like in other samurai anime, they goe straight to the point in lovely samurai action.

WORST
I haven't seen that many anime but my worst list in no particular order is:

Ultimate muscle - this seemed interesting when i heard about it, but it was just plain rubbish, their jokes werent funny at all and the characters were ridicolous

Najica blitz tactics - lot of people like this, but im not one of them. The plot was good and it would have been good if they didn't hav so many needless panty shots, i just find this sort of stuff sad. panty shots here and there is all good, but every second it gets annoying.

FLCL - I know lot of people love this but i don't, i need to know whats going on in an anime and need to understand it, this was exact opposite.

Sailor moon - i just found it plain boring

can't think of any other rubbish anime i've seen at moment

What are your 10 Favorite and 5 least favorite animes?

it not that SAC is crap or any thing its an ok show, but what pisses me off is the "there is no main storyline BS", and the fact that the charcters are so one sided they don't feel like they are real. However i do like the origional movie, i will let you know about the sequal when dreamworks admits they fucked it up and fixes it.

What are your 10 Favorite and 5 least favorite animes?

I haven't watched that many anime as most of you here, but from what I've seen so far, my top would look something like this (in no particular order):

FLCL:
Flawless animation, great use of different styles/perpective/techniques (or whatever you may call it). The series is short, but I can't count the number of times I sat on the edge of my seat going "what the hell?!?!" (in a good way). One of the best things about this anime is the music though. I'm sooooo glad I spend my money on this series.

Cowboy Bebop:
Granted, I haven't seen all of the series, but i really really love the characters and humor in the series. The jazzy music finishes this masterwork off. I don't feel I can add anything that hasn't already been said.

Boogiepop Phantom:
It's weird, strange, complex, and whatnot. What I really loved about this series is the way it's told. seeing earlier scenes again, but starting a little earlier, or told from a different viewpoint, this is much like a big puzzle where the pieces slowly fall together in the end. And finally, the sound effects are awesome here (except in the early episodes where I didn't find it all that spectacular). Episode 10: Poom Poom, was my most favourite of all. Only downpoint is that the characters are hard to distinguish, because they are drawn rather realistic (no outstanding hair styles and/or colors), but that couldn't spoil the fun for me.

Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust:
Greatly paced, this anime takes you through a journey across a wonderfull world filled with wonderfull characters. One of the best things of this anime is the variety of characters/creatures, coupled with a great story of love and duty. This is easily one of the very best presentations of a vampire story I know of (not limited to anime/manga alone).

The Animatrix:
I've seen this one on someone's worst ever list here, but for me it's top ranking. Reason for this is pretty simple: It was one of the first anime I really watched, and with that it showed me a great diversity of styles within the anime genre. I'm not the greatest matrix fan, but I found these supplemental stories to really add to the story as a whole (more so than part 2 and 3 ever could). Finally, the soundtrack supplied with the dvd (also the music used in the anime's) is amongst one of my favourites to listen to, both as a cd, and as the music on the anime.

Metropolis:
A different style of anime than I was used to, but the grand nontheless. Great story, great pacing, great city :). Also, everything blends in perfectly visually. The ending wasn't 100% satisfying for me, but I can live with that.

Akira:
The first anime I ever watched. Long before I got into anime I watched it with some friends, because it was supposed to be "impossible to understand anything" (rumours can be soo exaggerating (sp?)). It's setting is what really made this anime for me then. The bikes and psionics are just too cool.

Ghost in the Shell:
This anime did not live up to what I expected of it, but then again, I think that it was for the better. I expected to see a lot more violence and fighting in this (judging from what I had seen from it in trailers etc.). Overall this allowed to the story to better develop than I expected, and hence it's one of my favourites now.

Princess Mononoke:
The visuals and audials are simply breathtaking here. The landscapes reminded me of the first Lord of the Rings (Fellowship of the Ring). What I really admire most about this anime is the fact that everyone's reasoning is actually reasonable. With a little effort, you can really understand the actions taken by all of the fractions.

Honorable mentions:
Evangelion (great story, but I think that the ending was too big of a change at once, and could have been introduced better)
Spirited Away (simply beautiful, and full of fantasy)

As for the worst I've ever seen:
Ninja Scroll: Okay, not really crappy like the others here, but it's the least enjoyable of the anime I own. The focus on blood and gore is just too much in the way of any real story for me. And I've never been a great fan of samurai, so that might have influenced my judgement too.

DBZ:
Violence with the only reason being violence. I really do not like this series, and I can easily say that this is what kept me away from anime for quite some time, as I thought that all anime was like this (macho men trying to place as many punches as possible).

Yu-Gi-Oh!:
And almost every other kids series shown on tv for that matter. No plot other than: must defeat bad guy, because he wants to do bad things. And mostly because that is what people first judge you by if you state you love anime (There are enough anime's to prove them wrong, but these series make it so that you have to prove them wrong every time, because hardly anyone is open-minded about it anymore).

Well, that's my best/worst, and it's also about 70% of all anime I've every seen ;).
