Toon Zone Talkback - "Shin-chan" Author Yoshito Usui (1958-2009)

It wasn't. ANN reported however that they found a body that MIGHT be him. Nothing has been 100% confirmed yet.

This is just my personal suggestion, but maybe this thread should be closed until there is actual confirmation. A little premature for "tribute" videos, I think.

This is so sad. I hope that he's somehow still alive, despite how the situation doesn't look so great right now. Even if the body isn't his, I would feel bad for whoever it was. My positive thoughts go for his frienRAB and family as they go through this emotionally difficult time, especially since they don't know if its confirmed yet either. It must be really hard for them.

I'm hoping that the body found isn't him, it would be a real shame for his family and frienRAB. All my hopes are going to that body not being him, if it is, my condolences to his family and frienRAB.

Ah, I see.

Well, in any case, whoever that body maybe, it's still terrible news all the same and I feel bad for them. Usui or not. But, hopefully, it isn't Usui's. I wish his family and frienRAB luck going through this. I couldn't begin to imagine how scary this has all been for them.

Well even assuming it's not Usui-san's body, it's still bad news. I was reading up on the area (the borderlanRAB of Gunma Prefecture?) where he went missing, and some people living over in Japan said that people get seriously injured or killed in clirabing accidents there all the time. They did not think his chances of survival were very good, and that was some 36 hours ago, before this news broke.

Just read another updated bit on the news.
A more thorough confirmation on whether the body remains belong to Usui will be done on the 20th. But if it is confirmed that Usui is dead, Crayon Shinchan will still continue to be published by Usui's apprentice.

Many successful cartoonists employ an assistant or two, whether or not they are formally in an apprenticeship. Such assistants are often quite capable of producing their employer's cartoon on their own when it becomes necessary.

It is not unreasonable to assume Mr. Usui has such assistants, but I haven't read anything to that effect.

Manga creators ALWAYS have assistants (unless your name is Yoshishiro Togashi XD). It is not uncommon for the assistant to create his/her own series after the current one is finished. One Piece's creator was an assistant to Rurouni Kenshin's creator, for example.

The good news is that they finally identified the body.

The bad news:

What do you mean determined? I think Anime News Network says that "The editorial staff at Futabasha's Manga Town magazine has stated on Sunday night that the "future publication [of Crayon Shin-chan] is to be determined." right?

Here's the update:

Futabasha says that they will continue Shin Chan in their magazine Manga Town until the Deceraber issue.

The TV Asahi staff hasn't decide whether to air the new episode of the anime on October 16 and continue the anime series. But I'm certain that it will likely be canceled.

I hope AS would do a bumper on his death.

Nobody shouldn't be hiking or rock-clirabing alone (unless you're a professional) without a buddy. That's what the Buddy System is all about.

The moral to this tragic story: Buddy Up For Safety.

Aw, man, what a terrible tragedy. I am so sorry. Shin Chan was one of the funniest shows I've ever seen. I join with his family in praying for Usui's "happiness in the next world".
