the funniest thing for me about this thread is that the OTers who are extremely pro gun seem to give off the impression that they think that bringing a loaded weapon into a crowded, chaotic bar isn't just A-OK, its quite possibly the smartest and best idea anyone has ever had. and how dare those liberal bastards interfere!
 
I'd hate for a sober guy to get overpowered by drunks and be unarmed and unable to defend himself.

Well, I would hate to have a shark eat my asshole when I'm swimming in the ocean because the cushion on the flight over was filled with glass because the airline was too cheap because they cannot make money.

I don't know what any of that really means, but I do know that it is relatively easy to avoid drunks at a bar. It's even easier to make sure one of them doesn't shoot me.

I know, I know, it's THAT argument again. I'm still looking for a nice iced coffee.
 
I'm suggesting that people who own weapons are more violent, on average, than people who don't own weapons. I don't think that's a surprising observation, I think it's obvious. The 'people who don't own weapons' category is very likely to get all of the pacifists, which brings their average down.

I'm not saying it's significant, in any case. I wouldn't agree that being more violent is necessarily a bad thing. I was just rebutting the notion that people who carry guns aren't more likely to be violent than people who don't.
 
I would argue that the correlative arguement I'd perfectly sound. That being said, that does not change what said study would indicate in contradiction to several posts in this thread
 
So if 5 drunk guys decide to pick on the DD of a group(or bf of a chick there... w/e) who looks pretty "stiff" or "boring" for whatever reason, and this guy is carrying legally.. they encircle him, make him feel very threatened, and he pulls out his gun... you think those guys would be dumb enough(in most cases) to "attack"?

With that said, do you think drunk dumbasses will be as likely to pick on the sober(-ish) guy knowing full well he could possibly be armed?

Pro tip: I have many weapons. If I know I'm going to get wasted, I won't even carry my pocket knife out... not to mention my pistol, baton, etc. If someone owns a gun, and can legally CC, then they're not dumb enough to carry when they know they're gonna get shitfaced. Likewise, most people aren't going to risk their lives over a night of fun and some "lulz".

Some of you anti-gun people live in as much fear as religious morons.
 
The threat of violent crime does not justify possessing the means of self defense against violent crime.

I think the very nature of wanting to possess a weapon shows that there is a greater tendency towards violence on some subliminal level.

I love how it's just assumed that all gun owners are irresponsible and will be out getting drunk and shooting people for scuffing their Pumas.
 
Desginated Drivers my friend. Plus, you're forgetting why this law was originally proposed. The original intent of the bill is to allow an individual to carry a gun into a restaurant that also serves alcohol. Think of places like O'Charley's, Applebee's, Aubrey's, etc. that have a large dining area and a small seperate bar. The lawmakers wanted CCW Holders the right to carry in these establishments as long as they were not drinking.

There was an incident in Knoxville a year or so ago in which an individual had an arguement with the staff about a bill, went out to his truck and got a gun, then came back in and fired into the restaurant killing an individual as he was leaving.
 
Up until about a year ago, you could legally carry in more place in CA than GA.

Why lol?
 
Is there anywhere that we can all agree it is not generally a 'good idea' to bring a gun? Children's birthday party? An MRI scan? The pearly gates?

I like my guns too, but this just seems pointless bantering around the old principles bonfire.

Oh yes, I have guns. Had more than I have now, but that's just because I'm transitioning my collection from 'hey lemmie try that'.
 
My dad always made the argument that the constitution was written at a time when there was a constant threat of the British returning, and not much of a standing army, thus a need for the American populace to remain armed.

It's all about world view. My dad's Australian...
