TN governor vetoes "guns-in-bars" bill again

If some drunk carrying a gun into a bar gets pissed because you got the last Lienenshnookles.
 
Driving and alcohol don't mix... so we don't let anyone drive to or from a bar... er, right?
 
Just because a bar is a known gun free area, doesn't mean that the owners won't have one or that it will become an increased target. And your stats overlap there. Bars are in both percentages. What percentages make up bars? Does commercial establishments mean only those three places or does it include a fair bit more? Using "such as" hints that more types are included in the stats.

And the last thing we need is a patron shooting at a robber in a crowded restaurant or bar.

Most robberies are armed....You are in the same place.......someone is threatened......let me fix your quote....."robbery is different. and if the criminal is any kind of good, the gun in everyone's pocket is one helluva deterrent of massive effectiveness to keep the "kind of good" robber from attempting to shove the barrel of a gun in your face"

2. I think it's a pretty safe fucking assumption that people who don't own guns won't use the guns that they don't have.
 
the point being that the threat of armed robbery doesn't justify people bringing guns to a fucking bar.

This isn't the fucking 1800's. You don't have to worry about being forced into a duel while out getting smashed with your buddies.


But in all seriousness, I'm on the fence on this one. Since a bar in of itself typically serves only drinks its fair to assume most patrons are going to be consuming said drinks. While SOME might be responsible with their firearms, not all will. Alcohol impairs your actions, obviously why you can't drink and drive etc etc, so I'm inclined to think guns + alcohol = bad.

On the other hand, I have a great fucking idea.....let the owner of the establishment decide. If they agree to it, but then can't control shootings / violence in and around the establishment......the state can revoke his liquor license.

He would have to carry more insurance, probably hire armed security which increases costs, and he'd have to look at arming his staff as well....so I can't see many businesses okay with it, due to the additional burden placed on them to operate and if I were a business owner I shouldn't be forced to let someone in who's packing heat if I don't want you in my establishment.
 
Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on your POV), the Constitution comes down solidly on my side of the argument.
 
It's still up to the individual bar owner whether to allow guns or not. If they choose to opt-out, then the owner has to put up some standardized sign stating that weapons are not permitted.

IIRC, the first time this law was passed out of the 30 or so "restaurants" that serve alcohol in Knox County and were polled about the subject, only 2 allowed the weapons to be carried.
 
So let's get this straight. If I have a gun and I'm near alcohol, I'm going to kill somebody?

What happens if I have a gun and there's beer in my house? What if there are people DRINKING that beer? What if I drink a beer? HOLY FUCK, IT'S GOING TO BE A BLOODBATH!!!

This is the big stupid flaw in the whole "guns and alcohol don't mix " argument. I can have a gun near alcohol ANYWHERE ELSE. But if I'm in a bar, suddenly I'm dangerous.




And the governor is just going to be overridden again and lose the election. No big deal.
 
There's no need for an IP check on Surefire. There's no doubt who he is, and as often and vehemently I disagree with him, he's been a contributing member here for 6 years.

I've already run an IP check on you, and so far you don't match any trolls besides yourself.
 
How about making it so bars or restaurants that serve alcohol can't have parking lots to limit those who are legally allowed to drive the temptation of using their car after drinking.

I mean, think of the children.
