TN governor vetoes "guns-in-bars" bill again

You would see 100% of bars opt out. Their insurance rates for allowing guns in their bars would be obscene.
 
No, the issue is about bringing that CC into the bar, a place where people get belligerent and often do stupid things. If someone is carrying a CC, I guarantee there will be a case where one is drinking.

All these hypotheticals about the DD who carries a CC and doesn't drink fail to take that into account. I wouldn't want some drunk next to me with a gun on him.
 
What possible motivation could there be from stopping people who are legally allowed to carry from doing so in a restaurant that serves alcohol when they are not drinking?

And a room full of unarmed people without control over their actions. What if a drunk guy is acting obnoxious to the armed sober guy, the sober guy gets nervous and pulls out his gun?

What business does that sober guy have being there? I ask again. If you bring a gun into a bar, it was also your decision... I see. I would hope the establishment would not let someone in with a gun, lest they risk making other customers feel uncomfortable. I for one, would not feel comfortable with some Joe Shmo being in a restaurant with a gun. It's inappropriate.
 
I've had my license to carry for a while now. I've been put into some tough situations where I've gotten pretty upset/heated. You know what separates me and a majority of people that also carry and carry daily....

how often are you dancing, getting hugged, touched, cramming yourself into large crowds of drunk people, peacocking or just generally having a pretty damn good time at Wal-Mart?
 
An MRI wouldn't be a good idea, since guns tend to be made of magnetic metals.

But in general, no, there are very few places (if any) that I'd consider 'not a good idea' to have a gun, because in saying "it's bad to have a gun here", you're implying one of two things:

A) that the place will imbue the gun with a malicious will of its own and it will proceed to kill people by itself - and you'd have to be stupid to mean that - or

B) that the combination of the gun and the place will magically turn the gun owner into a bloodthirsty killer, and merely by virtue of the fact that he's there and has a gun, he will murder people. Which is nearly as stupid as (A).
 
I wasn't aware that I had rated the threat at all, beyond saying that it exists.

But it seems that most people here think bars are inherently violent places, given how strenuously they argue that people shouldn't be allowed to be armed in them. Clearly if I can't be trusted with a gun in a bar, that means the bar is so violent that I'll be tempted to use it.
 
My biggest issue with the law is that it places a cost on either the bar owners or the TN government to fund the production/standardization of those signs (I'm not sure who has to front the cost, I think it's the bar owner). It's trivial when you look at it on a case-by-case basis, but when you look at how many establishments opted-out when the first bill was passed, it becomes more of a roundabout "tax" in order to preserve the right to carry. I suppose if I'm going to be taxed for anything, it might as well be something that's spelled out in the Bill of Rights.
 
Your dad is mistaken. Thomas Jefferson says so:

"No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms. The strongest reason for people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government."
 
People are more likely to survive a car crash than a bullet wound. I digress: A drunk driver and a drunk wielding a gun are the same.
 
I don't know why I'm bothering, but here's a serious answer to "how can a gun save your life in a restaurant?":

by killing somebody who is trying to kill you.
