TMNT Talkback "Turtles Forever" (Spoilers)

this was a great animated film. a great tribute to the ninja turtles franchise as a whole. the respect paid to the original classic turtles was a really nice touch.

as far as critiques go. i do agree that there was a little too much bashing of the 80's/90's toon turtle characters. they handled 80's toon splinter nicely and the poking fun at the fourth wall jokes and the silly toon villians was really good. but i felt that there was just a little too much 'we're the cool modern age toon and you guys are bumbling dorks' stuff going on. especially the way krang and shredder were constantly just slapped around. it was good for laughs but as silly as shredder eventually became in the old toons, he was still a pretty fierce commanding villan in the first seasons of the show. here they made it look like he's forgotten how to even throw a punch-until maybe the final battle scene.

but the good far outweighs the bad here. this was a really cool and fun movie for any kind of turtle fan out there. the closing scene was handled really nice too.

some of my fav scenes was the classic turtles calling out utrom shredder on the roof recreating the original comic scene, the opening scene were we're introduced to the 80's toon turtles in they're confrontation with hun, and mikey's 'i love these guys!"

*btw also noticed in the 80's toon verse, one of the people walking in the crowd looked alot like the human version of rocksteady. interesting.

Cool stuff. They made some good decisions when deciding what to cut. What little plot we missed was easily inferred and the rest was just overly talky. Still glad to be able to see the full version.

^ Like Speedy, I was watching this on 4kidstv.com and it was awesome! The 1987 Turtles were my favorite, they had a great sense of humor, no they had a infinite sense of humor and butt-kicking skills! Since I was getting back into watching TMNT so I can prepare for the 2012 series that's airing on Nickelodeon I decided to watch this. Honestly the last time I've seen a TMNT episode was back in 2005. It was on Miguzi. They ended this with a bang and I don't know why but it felt like they wrapped it up like the Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends series finale. We will see you again, Turtles!

Am I the only one who liked seeing the Turtles use mystic weapons and turn into dragons? That entire season was based on sorcery and magic, it was a nice change of pace from all the ninjitsu fighting in the other seasons. It may have been a bit too anime inspired but I really liked that season and have no idea why people complain about the magic usage. Its not as if the Turtles permanantly kept those magic powers.

As for retcon, I don't see it. The fact that Oroku Saki WAS a real man and that Ch'rell stole his identity to build up fear and an army all made total sense.

My biggest problem with demon Shredder? How could Demon Shredder and Utrom Shredder have the same voice. I can see Utrom shredder, modeling his human persona after Saki and his suit after the Shredder to spreed fear but how could he know what Demon Shredder sounded like.

This list would be so much nicer if I knew what the tags to cross-out text were...

Right, right. They're not the only ones either. The same thing happened with Power Rangers in that show's second season. There were about seven episodes that were either just scripted or incompletely filmed, and if you saw the episode list with their production numbers, you'd notice a gap.

So what are Utroms? Are they like the same type of aliens that are Krang?

What about those Krang like aliens that were in the new series?

I'm not a TMNT fan, but I thought it was okay. I can see why fans would love it. The writers really tries to make it an awesome farewell for fans; it showed in the writing and jokes and references.

"Bebop & Rocksteady Save the Multiverse" indeed...XDD;

I enjoyed the special very much. Sure, the jokes at the classic Turtles were a little cut-throat but it didn't really bother me that much, since the chemistry kind of worked. The Mirage turtles didn't take anyone of them seriously, so it's all good. The part about Karai entering went over my head, as well. But, I loved 1980 Raph's 4th wall breaking. Left everyone confused. :D I was balling when Shredder Prime got so easily defeated. Don't really know how he was killed in the original comics, but ah well. The Mirage Turtles were badass. Jason Griffith's narrations were awesome. Didn't like Dan Green's Leo, but I got used to it. It's been ages since I've heard Cam Clarke's Leo anyway.

Speaking of 1980s, they didn't save April! :p

Well TNM takes place in the movie universe and the movie universe was represented so technically TNM WAS represented. And now that Laird has no say whatsoever on the turtles, I'm hoping for Venus to make a return as a guest character. She gets a bad rap but is not as bad as her reputation makes her seem.

Since my local CW affiliate starts airing the 4Kids programming at an insanely early time in the morning, I had to DVR this. Unfortunately, my stupid DirecTV HD feed glitched out on me, so for the first hour I got audio but no video other than a bouncing DirecTV logo.

I guess I'll have to wait for the encore next week, and this time, I'll be recording it in Standard Definition.

This is something that I have to yell at my wife about: "KRANG IS NOT AN UTROM!" I think she says he's an utrom just to annoy me. Krang is based on the utroms, but he's not an utrom. Krang is a lizard-like creature that was separated from his body either before or during his banashment to Earth.

I know you think it can't change back to the goofy way it was before, but even if it was just a theory of mine before, it's actually canon.

You heard right, the OT changes back after season 10. Watch "Once Upon a Time Machine". It takes place in the future where stuff is totally goofy like seasons 1-7 and the sky is not red.

Turtles Forever takes place after season 10.

I just watched the movie.

This was my first time actually sitting through an entire production featuring the 2K3 TMNT. I had tried to watch a few episodes of the TV series here and there, but the production values - the pixelated animation that made it look like a Playstation One FMV, the forgettable music that's playing in the background ALL THE TIME - really turned me away. Yes, I had heard that the series was "good" or whatever, but for me, those issues I just mentioned were just too damned distracting.

Well, those things are all present in this movie. Yet, I still managed to finish it.

Overall...it was alright, I guess. Seeing the old school turtles being ridiculed constantly was pretty funny since a lot of the things they say / do are really over-the-top by today's standards. I especially liked the comment about how the blimp is the "lamest vehicle ever" and the turtles pointing out the initials on the belts. The tickle machine plan at the end and the 2K3 turtles asking if the 1980s April O'Neil worked at a garage got a laugh from me as well.

Wasn't a huge fan of the way they handled the universe disappearing, though, because of how inconsistent it was. In one scene, we'd see the "nothingness" creep over the universe at a super high pace, taking over entire city blocks in mere seconds. But then it would slow down to a crawl in the scenes following it. I also don't care for April O'Neil's 2K3 design (she looks like she's twelve) or Casey Jone's voice. The old school turtles laughing at every damn thing was kind of fun at first, but it started to get on my nerves by the end of it.

The whole "replace the word "hell" with the word "shell"" thing was also really really annoying. Do they do that a lot in the actual show as well?

Just FTR, I'm not a Venus hater. My issue with Venus wasn't that she existed, but how she existed.

If Venus had been around from day 1 (or had been introduced earlier in the franchise's history, say about a season or half into the 1987 cartoon) and had just been on the team as the Turtles' mutant sister, then I would've had no problem with the character. The issue I had with her was how the Next Mutation writers chose to use her existence and presence to negate the idea that the Turtles were brothers just so there could be possible shipping between Venus and a male Ninja Turtle.

It bugs me how so often female characters have to be girlfriends first and characters second.

Oops. My bad, didn't read that. :o

Changing gears, a part of me wants to say '87 Shredder reverted the Technodrome back to it's original self out of ego. Something along the lines of "That arrogant fool, none of this junk will defeat the turtles! Scrap all this and commence construction of my doomsday device that will turn all the cheese in the world into concrete! That will lead to my sought after victory!"
