"TMNT" Talkback (Spoilers)

Last Sunday some friends and I were trying to drown out some sorrows after our basketball team lost and what was showing right across the street but a bit of nostalgia called tmnt. Fun movie, kind of silly but the turtles always were.

Would have liked to have seen more with leo and Karai, since I'm sure people unfamiliar with the comics and new cartoon had no idea who she was. Sure the Leo/Raph relationship got the most focus, but I didn't mind. Leo was always my fav turtle, so I was surprised that he couldn't figure out that was his brother in the big metal turle suit.

I think the four turtles could have each had a chance to shine during the final battle. Don could have figured something out, Leo and Raph show some real team work, Mikey could of had some better jokes, but it was over too fast and too frantic, that it all kind of blurred together.

But like I said, fun movie. Would rather see a sequel to this than gatchaman since I have no attachment to that franchise.

It's dropped that far already? Ouch. :(

I wouldn't bury a sequel just yet, folks. I have a sneaking feeling that this one was a "test run" to see if TMNT can still turn a profit. And they have done that. Also, I've chatted with quite a few friends who have all said the same thing. Either: "I haven't seen it yet, but I'm going to" or "I haven't seen it, but I'm gonna get the DVD." DVD sales could be the determining factor on whether or not we get a TMNT Part 5.

*crosses fingers*

I think the next movie (if made) will be sort of a "City at War" situation. Which would bring Baxter in quite nicely. The Shredder would obviously be revived but I don't think he'd be the focus of the movie. They'd tease us with him but depending on how well TMNT does overall they might try for another triliogy out of that movie. If they cut to the chase we'll see Leo fight Shredder one on one no doubt and chances are he'll decaptitate him in splended fasion (they say if they get a sequel it will probably be PG-13).

If they could do 2 more movies beyond this one then they could set it up for the second movie to be really good but leave you wanting more and leaving something to tie up (definently leaving the Shredder alive for a final confrontation in the 3rd movie er... 6th movie... wow this is starting to sound like Star Wars :D). They introduce Baxter as I said and have the city at war scenario bringing in the mob, the foot, and other problems along with Baxter and his criminal genius. All the while the Shredder is near living again but you don't see him until the end of the movie. Then something big happens. I'd be as crazy or cruel (depending on how you look at it) to say Shredder might kill Splinter which of course makes all the turtles angry but no more so than Leonardo (and then we get emo Leo... shell yeah).

In the third movie it comes down to this. Leo feels its time for the turtles to finally take out the foot once and for all and of course defeat the Shredder. He's fueled by rage obvioiusly for the death of Splinter and feels revenge is the only way to honor his master and also the only way to end their long battle with the foot. Baxter would be back, most likely in cyborg form of some kind (as he did that in the new show and the comics though for different reasons). And then we finally get the turtles killing Shredder for the final time.

It'd be nice to bring in Utroms and Triceritons. Perhaps they could do that for DTV's based on the time line in the future. Adding Bishop would also just plain own. But I think that would complicate the movies a bit too much honestly. The people demand the definitive fight with the Foot Clan and Shredder and I imagine that's exactly what Munroe, Laird, and Gray intend to do with any sequel TMNT can get into theatres.

Actually it'd probably be better if the writers didn't see Sketch's idea and just come up with it on their own. In most cases, studios avoid accepting fan submissions or acting on them so that the fans who came up with the ideas won't go and sue them for plagarism. I'm not insinuating that Sketch would sue them, it's just a policy that most studios have.

Saw it earlier on today, and weirdness about seeing a movie that was mostly full of little kids aside, I would give it a 4 out of 5. I thought all the voices were perfect, and the action scenes were handled very well. The only negative was that the main villian and his story were rather dull and left a lot to be desired. Still though, it's easily the best Turtles movie since the original.

Yeah, that's usually the deal. They'd have to pay me for the idea if they saw it and then used it or I could be in the right to sue. I'd like to believe I wouldn't do that to them though but eh... I'm tight with money so I can't truthfully say it's out of the question. But it wouldn't come to that anyway. Infact me typing that might make sure it doesn't happen. Ah well...

All right, here's my breakdown of TMNT:

The Good
  • Darn good animation and action; my personal favorite scenes are Nightwatcher-vs.-Jersey Devil (that little monster in the diner kitchen), Raph-Vs.-Leo, and the final battle.
  • Excellent voice acting all around, although Kevin Smith's cameo is very pointless. I loved hearing vets like Jim Cummings and Billy West in small roles.
  • A fairly good script that understands these characters and their personalities.
The Bad
  • Too short, too short, my God this movie is too short. You can definitely tell that stuff has been cut out, and I really wish that the movie had run at least 15-20 minutes longer.
  • Not enough Mikey and Donny! These guys have always been my favorite turtles, and it's almost heartbreaking to see them get the short end of the stick. Sure, the little things they did were good, but they need more screentime in the sequel (if it gets made).
The Ugly
  • While Max Winters and some of the miscellaneous characters are designed well, April, Casey, and Karai's designs suck eggs.
I enjoyed the movie immensely, and I'll definitely be at least renting the DVD for the deleted scenes.

This is one of my favioite movies the fighty scnbese were greta , The interaction between the characters were good , Liked the April and Casey stuff , Karia andthe foot I like the leader of the stone army and had a very god motive for bring the staues togteher. I also like the Homage to previous movies and the impaled return of the shredder. I hope there will be a nother movie as all I can say is I enjoyed it a lot

An absolutely outstanding movie. I'm surprised that people don't love this movie as much as I did. I feel like if there's been any animated version of the TMNT that best defines what the TMNT are, this is it.

I was surprised by how good this movie was. The trailers did not impress me at all. But I went to see it anyway. And it was very good. It had its flaws, but good movie nonetheless.

Also, isn't it interesting how all four TMNT movies were released on a March?

I suppose I should still see this just because I like the Turtles, but the ads just never looked that great, and I wasn't that impressed by the animation or character designs. (I would have preferred a big-screen outing of the 2003 series instead.) But maybe I'll add this to my Netflix queue since I'm on the hunt for new titles to add. :)

Just got back from a showing. Overall, I enjoyed it. It's not a revolutionary film, and it's obviously aimed at a younger demographic, but the Turtles fan in me felt they generally got it right. Kevin Munroe respects these characters, and it shows.

-The intro wasn't very elegant. The whole narration could've been moved to April's realization in the middle.

-I really thought Leo had already figured out that Raph was the Nightwatcher when he confronted him, and was purposely egging him on. Him being surprised was actually a twist for me, not sure if the filmmakers intended that. While this was definitely a showcase scene, I'm hoping they move past the Raph/Leo conflict if a sequel is greenlit. Between the original films, the 2003 series and this, Raph vs. Leo has been overplayed.

-I thought the 13th monster was the jersey devil creature that raph fought. I thought winters mentioned 1 creature was left before the scene in the diner, but maybe I was mistaken. Overall the creatures weren't that great. Most didn't have enough screentime to make a strong impression, and certainly wouldn't make me run out and buy the toy.

-on the other hand, Winters was an interesting character. I liked his arc, but it could've benefitted from a few more character developing scenes. April was also surprisingly likeable, and I'm glad they kept the 'butt-kicking ninja girl' stuff till the very end. Them I'll 'shell out' for the toys.

-splinter is awesome. I love the fur effects. I dunno if the 'soap opera' gag is carried over from the 2003 series or it's always been around, but it got the biggest laugh out of me. Mako will be missed.
