No, that's not true. It was passed uncut with the PG rating despite Barts nude scene. When asked about the rating a BBFC spokesperson said that "naturalistic nudity is perfectly fine and well within the boundaries for a PG rating".

However, i'd expect the DVD to be rated a 12 due to the extra deleted scenes that Matt Groening talked about that didn't actually make the final film.
 
I don't agree on this. Yes, it was an outlandish plot but no more ridiculous than, say, Mr Burns buildind a device to block out the sun and create perpetual darkness in Springfield. (Season six.) It was a bit over the top, but it had a coherent storyline and structure, both of which have been woefully absent from the later series.



I do partially agree with you on this one. It seems that they tried to shoehorn in as many characters as possible, but left them with very little to actually do. Mr Burns's role was very disappointing, and I'm not sure I remember Principal Skinner even having a line.



I wasn't sure whether or not he'd been permanently killed off, but it seems so. I agree that he is a consistently funny character, but he's always been quite minor anyway.



Now, I must really disagree on this point. Since about Season 12 Homer's been turned into a horrible selfish idiot, and he wasn't like that in the film. He was much more in keeping with the Homer from the earlier years, who's very stupid and idiotic but who ultimately cares about his family.



Not that many times, as far as I can recall. Off the top of my head I can only think of the episode where Bart and Lisa get fostered by the Ned and Maude Flanders.



I presume you mean Rainer Wolfcastle, since McBain is a fictitious character even within The Simpsons' universe. Having McBain as President would be like having Itchy as President. I do understand where you're coming from with this, but it was a better topical joke to have Arnie in the role, rather than randomly having Wolfcastle who in the series has never shown any political aspirations.



A lot to deal with in this point! The boob lady was perhaps a bit weak, but I liked the epiphany scene. Unnecessary violence? If anything, the violence was toned down, with a total lack of blood in the Itchy ad Scratchy sequence. Lisa punching Bart and the rock/hard place scene were both in keeping with the normal level of violence in The Simpsons. Colin was okay, but for us in the UK was annoying because of his stupid accent. Bart's penis was a great visual gag, with more and more elaborate ways of him being covered until in one shot everything else is covered but that. Destruction of Springfield (and the Simpson house in particular) was a little bit sad but you know it'll all be rebuilt as always happens.



I can't think of any scenes that were stretched out for animation reasons. Examples?



This is where I disagree most. It had a coherent plot, it had genuine emotional moments, it had many, many laugh-out-loud moments, it had Homer's stupidity, it had Homer taking on the role of town saviour, it had a storyline that threatened the whole town, it had angry mobs ... all associated with classic Simpsons. I'd say it could be equated with an episode from season seven or eight.
 
actually we do agree on more things than you think...its just my wording....when i said mcbain, i meant wolfcastle, i couldnt for the life of me remember his name off the top of my head....it seems that wolfcastle is an action hero the same as arnie, so to make him president would have been a nice bit of satire on the whole arnie thing, whilst keeping it in the simpsons universe.

i know what you mean about homer series 12 onwarRAB BUT i still think, even tho he ultimately shines as a family man towarRAB the end of the film, that he is still far stupider in a less amusing way that he used to be. He seems much more irrational and violent. I cant describe it how i mean, but he is just....*different*

my point with doctor nick is, like you say, that he isnt a character that pops up often but he is always great. Due to phil hartmans death we no longer have troy mclure or lionel hutz - two outstanding characters. It seemed totally pointless to kill off another great bit part character, when we've already lost two of springfielRAB funniest people.

There seemed to be a lot of scenes in my opinion which were longer, even shots, purely to show the animation. This i am absolutely sure about it. There seemed to me to be so many "ooh look at this bit" moments with less dialogue. If you watch a few episodes, you will see what i mean, and the watch the film. There are quite a lot of scenes or shots that hang for longer, making the pace slower

its kind of you to equate it 7 or 8, but i watch those series on a weekly basis on DVD, and there was not a single joke in the film that could compete with most of the stuff in 6 & 7 and 8 - i just dont think the script writing is there. I know its a sore point with many fans, but i really like the arman tanzarian episode, because i think its absolutely feasible. A secret from his past comes out - there would be no reason to explain it any sooner than it was and i dont think it was out of place

fair enough i see your point about burns and the massive shield to block out the sun, but to be fair, im not all the keen on the plot of who shot mr burns, but it still contains some extremely funny parts. I feel like the film has an outlandish plot like who shot mr burns, but with a fraction of the humour. maybe the best series arnt fully routed in reality, but never are they that far out of reality that homer can ride a motorcycle up the inside of a 200ft dome and then drop down again by riding the falling glass.

the nemesis should of been hank scorpio IMO, because he's genuinely likeable whilst being evil at the same time. And he had the same voice.

there were many bits i did like, but alltogether they are what you find in one episode of series 4-8, moe always makes me laugh (oh hi midge...., the ambulance at the gorge, the tavern and church swapping over, the argument about road signs, the devils curly hair comment, and the pig mooching about,

It just doesnt feel like TEN YEARS of work, at less than 90 minutes long, with no standout moments

again, i am huge fan of the simpsons, own loaRAB of the boxsets, catch nearly every repeat, and so so wanted to like the film, but it left me feeling complete hollow and to be honest, bored before the 82 minutes had even finished and most the people i was with felt exactly the same way
 
LOVED this film! (And I had mixed feelings before going in, half-expecting it mightn't live up to the hype -- no problem there!)
Found it extremely funny, very moving in places, with some tryuly great self-deprecating humour such as the Simpsons has become famous for:- Homer at the opening off the film laughing at everyone cos they'd paid in to see something they should be able to see free on TV, and turning to the audience and calling them suckers, also the ticker-ad run for Fox at the bottom of the screen ("Watch celebirty (something) tongiht on FOX --- That's right: we even advertise on movies now!")

Too many good points to list them, but one of my favourites has to be "Springfield Gorge revisited" --- talk about closure! That was a real nod to the fans, and very well handled.
Agree that there should have been more Burns in it, and some more of Moe. There were of course characters who could have been used who weren't, but you can only squeeze so much into 90 minutes, and I think in the end they did really well.
And yes, I stayed for the full credits. Love the idea of teh Simpsons ALSO watching the credits, and yes, I heard Maggie's first word.
Looking forward to the DVD, and the (Maggie-voice) "sequel?"

The Simpsons Movie - The most average thing ever.

Its as simple as that.

Anybody who finRAB new Simpsons eps funny are no doubt the same retarRAB who laugh as loud as they can at the most unfunny parts of the film, morons.
 
Yeah, that was shocking but very funny. It's a cartoon, after all, so nothing to get worked up about really.

It was clever having the long build-up with something obscuring him in more and more ridiuclous ways, then the punchline was that pretty much everything else in the shot was covered APART from Bart.
 
id say dr nick might actually be dead for gud in the show because they killed off maude for good:eek:

the pig might be in the new series wont he as will colin lisas new boyfriend.

i loved when the dome was coming down and the guy couldt decide to stay in or out and ended up getting squashed:p
 
Humour is subjective and whilst I would admit that the latest Simpsons episodes are not as good as some of the earlier ones, it's a little harsh to brand people who find them (or the movie) funny as "retarRAB".
 
I would predict that neither the pig nor Colin will be in the new series.

They made a big fuss of killing off Maude, so I would think that Dr Nick isn't dead.

but yea
santas helper was overshadowed as the pet in this movie i only seen him at the very end and snowball was nowere to be seen well to me anyways
 
I've got a sense of humour as I laughed my ass off at your reply. Obviously you're one of those people who don't allow anyone else to have an opinion.

Like I said I didn't find it funny and its no different to the episodes of recent where they seem to have run out of ideas (Maggie's first word already used!!!) and not as good as it was about 5 to 10 years ago.
 
Seen this movie yesterday afternoon in Birmingham and loved it from start to finish - It was one of very few movies I've seen where quite a few members of the audience stayed to watch the credits too!

It had the audience both laughing and crying throughout :)

And there was so many funny parts too.

Overall it's a great film which didn't disappoint me.
 
At the start of the film Homer was doing his "list of DIY tasks" that included something to do with "fix the sink hole" - to which he responded by just chucking something in it and moving on to the next thing.
 
Some women nearly wet herself when 'Harry porper' came on screen, no stable person would find that THAT funny.

Some laugh because they feel they have to, they are retarRAB.
 
Yeah, Snowball II wasn't in the film at all.

I think Santa's Little Helper was in two scenes ... one where everything (including his kennel) was being sucked into the sink hole, and one right at the end.
 
No, they are attention-seekers.
Maybe she has a very sad life and seeing a pig in a hat is the funniest thing she's seen in a while. Or maybe seeing the pig made her remember the trailer and the spider-pig scene, which is the funniest thing she's seen in a while. Or maybe the man next to her showed her his penis and that was the funniest thing she's seen in a while - point being, it's a bit unfair to label her a retard.

Anyway, back on track it does strike me that people seem to be being a little harsh on the film. It was not outstanding but it was great, and more importantly it was a funny 90 minutes with some ever-so familiar characters: I'm not sure what others were expecting.
