The Simpsons Movie-*major-spoilers Dont Look If Youve Not Seen*

Actually yeah, that was a very funny bit, I'd forgotten about it.

Very much like the scene in Fear of Flying when Homer has been barred from Moe's. A guy walks in and you think it's Homer dressed up in a ridiculous costume; he gets thrown out and Homer is walking past. (He then notices that the guy is his exact double, but gets distracted by a dog with a puffy tail.)

for me , the biggest joke of them all was at the beginning when homer was saying he couldn't believe all the people paying to see something that can be seen on tv for free , because thats exactly what it was , an extended tv episode . certainly there were a lot of funny parts but is that not why the tv episodes are a hit ?
i thought this was a massive dissapointment as i expected more because of the jump from small to big screen . they could have played 3 tv episodes and there would have been no difference .
rating as tv episode 5/5
rating as box office movie 2/5

These people have been collected because they are considered the funniest people in hollywood.

Do you think it's them who's not funny or you not having a sense of humour?

Went to see it last night.....fantastic

So many funny bits in it and a few I missed too Ill bet
Funniest line from Homer " Ahhh Maggie , you were the best mistake I ever made"

And of course the near legendary

Spider Pig Spider Pig, does whatever a Spider Pig does, can he swing from a web, No he cant hes just a pig :D

Seen the film yesterday - was funny but not as funny as what it was hyped up to be imo. Funny bits - Bart running naked, the simpsons family jumping into the sand, homer going on bike upside down in the ball thing... the omg i'd not want to be black dig - " no offence.... "

4 out 5..

I felt that there was more because of the jump from small to big screen. For instance, there was more:
  • drama. The Simpsons has always been funny but even when the family or town or world has been put under threat in regular episodes, there has just been the underlying knowledge that it will be reset in the next few minutes. In the film, they could (and did) extend that drama, leading to the feeling that they actually earnt their victory, rather than it just occuring as part of the "reset button" of each episode
  • emotion. As far as I can recall, there has been no scene in the Simpsons to date that has been as emotional as Marge's farewell message to Homer, and the scene that ensued. Futurama did it a couple of times ('Jurassic Bark' and 'Luck of the Fry-rish' in particular) but I don't recall any really touching scenes in the normal Simpsons. (Maybe the episode where Lisa discovers Bleeding Gums Murphy has died, but that doesn't really come close).
  • action. A couple of really great action scenes that wouldn't really have fitted into a normal episode without either being rushed or taking up most of the story.
Not to mention the slightly more adult stuff, the much more impressive animation, and the impressive gags that didn't miss the mark like they do in many of the recent episodes. This was not just three episodes of the Simpsons tied together into a 90-minute film - it was an animated classic that worked just as perfectly as an extension to the Simpsons franchise as it would have done if it had been 'new'.

Seriously, really seriously, what more did you expect? Homer's eyes to shoot lasers? Marge to take to Crack? Lisa become a lesbian? (Mental note: sent email to Mr Groening with these ideas for future Simpsons episodes!) :)
With the Simpsons movie, we got what we expected --- the vast majority of us.
What's Homer and co famous for?
Big, BIG laughs, and lots of them --- check
Ridiculous and/or incongruous settings --- check
Funny jokes --- check
Simpson family being chased by angry mob --- check (OK, not every episode, but it does happen reasonably regularly!)
Mr Burns being mean --- check
Springfield being made the A**shole of the world --- check
Good, well-written but ultimately crazy storyline --- check (Hey! What's that great big dome-like structure coming over----?)
In-jokes and pokes at pop culture --- check
Slagging off Fox --- check
Guest stars --- check

Need I go on? In fact, we got MORE than expected, as we also had quite heart-rending emotion in this film, which as someone said earlier really hasn't happened in the series yet. Who wasn't choked up at the heart-made-of-ice-and-splitting-in-two moment? And then they lighten it in typical Simpsons style with the "To be continued" gag. Class!

No, I won't hear a word against it. This was the best movie --- no, no! The most important event in human history EVER! (OK, maybe that's a bit strong. But it was one of the single best movies I have ever seen!) :D

Roll on the DVD release --- and the sequel!
(Who'll bet the DVD will be a Christmas release?)
Oh, Fox --- there IS a Santa Claus! :)

I really enjoyed this film, it was like an extended episode only cooler! :D

I also have to wonder where Snowball 2 went...poor kitty!
I missed Maggie's second word!!
I thought it was very funny, especially Bart exposing himself, Maggie saving Homer and Bart and the Tom Hanks cameo had me in stitches for some reason. :D

Watched it the other day with my 7 year old son and we both absolutely loved it. I seemed to be one of only 3 adults in there, another dad and a mom, and loaRAB of very young kiRAB and young teenagers. I was crying with laughter much of the way through and because the adult humour went straight over the kid's heaRAB I seemed to be laughing on my own a lot - except for the mom down the front. Just hilarious, I just could not stop laughing and I also seemed to have the loudest laugh in there and the teenagers to the left and to right of me kept looking at me like I'd lost the plot. :o

It was a great film - yes, probably just two episodes worth but watching it in the cinema just adRAB so much more. It's most certainly one to get on DVD when it comes out.

as a long time simpsons fan, who wanted it to be great, i thought it was absolutely terrible, i laughed about 3 times and possess at least 50 better 20 minute episodes...it just seemed to be lacking in laughs - and worse still completely the opposite of what made the simpsons so great in the first place. My housemate said "its only a cartoon" and that to me is the biggest problem, because, the simpsons was'nt "only a cartoon" and thats what made it great.

To me its problems were -

1. An absolutely ridiculous plot, where the hell did they think of that - there is stupid (clown college etc) and there is outright stupidity (the residents of springfield get put in a massive snowglobe and decide to hang the simpson family, the epiphany, on the run, the massive TV screen, the bomb)

2. Despite the fact that every single member of springfield was in it, how did they manage to actually get so few people in it? other than Moe, barely anyone got any screentime with most characters not even saying a word. I was actually left thinking harry shearer hadnt been involved, because other than mr burns, very few of his characters appeared.

3. Dr Nick's Death
He wasnt in the film, other than to die - fair enough killing off maud and bleeding gums murphy, but doctor nick is a consistently funny character, it just seems they put it in to shake things up.

4. Homer is just starting to border on retarded now, he has nothing in common with the homer of the first ten series, he is just an absolute idiot who gets more selfish and idiotic by the minute, not at all the family man he was

5. how many more times is bart going to think flanders christian lifestyle is better than his relationship with homer? they have used this so many times now.

6.Arnie shouldnt have been president, Mcbain should have been, especially when the point of mcbain is to be exactly like arnie. seems that was a missed trick to me......

7. The stupidity of the plot again.......home riding upside down round a massive dome and then riding down on waves of glass, the boob indian women, the epiphany with him melting, the unnecsecary violence (rock and the hard place etc, lisa punching bart), colin - what was the point in him, yet another person/stereotype for lisa to fall in love with, Bart's penis (why, why, why?), The complete destruction of springfield

8. The animation - admittely it was beautifully done, and did look amazing BUT its not the simpsons, i got the feeling that if the film had been animated like the TV show, then there would of been a lot of overlong shots. I actually think they used the animation to fill in the gaps in a lot of places

It just seemed completely detached from reality, and the thing that made simpsons so great was the fact it was a cartoon, but with a lot aspects of reality, but the film just seemed to contain nearly every single feature that has made the cartoon so bad for the past 6 years.

sorry about the long post but its just the most disapointing film i think ive ever seen, when it should of been one of the greatest, if this is the way the simpsons is going i genuinely hope they knock it on the head, and in the meantime i will have to wait for futurama (which can get away with being stupid)

i think the only joke i remember is "look, stop this, we cant keep pulling up at every sop, did-and and wun wey sign we drive up to" - that seemed like a typical simpsons joke. Made me laugh anyway :) that and the crashed ambulance on the top of springfield gorge, which i thought was a nice touch

edit: just read empire's review, and word for word it is absolutely spot on - they never needed to make a film

Fantastic film.

The part where Bart's skating naked is the best. I liked the long build up, and then BAM! It was totally unexpected. The audience was just shocked with laughter :D

Good fun.
